I suspect Charlene will have a classic dress possibly quite simplistic. I believe Armani is designing it so we know it will be fabulously structured, Perhaps she will take some inspiration from Kate's dress?

Interesting how the Daily Mail are now billing Charlene and Albert's wedding as one which will eclipse Kate and William's: ONLY 2 MONTHS AFTER they billed W&K's as the "wedding of the century". A prime example of the fickle hype in which the media participates. It was daft at the time to bill their wedding as such given the number of weddings of billionaires and royals who will be marrying over the next few years/decades which will no doubt be spectacular shows of power, wealth, pomp and pageantry. Not to mention the exclusion of magnificent weddings which will not make it to the headlines because the people are not celebrities. Anyway....

I'm rather looking forward to seeing the pictures and footage of this ceremony. I like the way it has received attention but hasn't been over-hyped or saturating the media. It's been a perfect balance until this point (unlike W&K's which felt like overload). The location, architecture and scenery is just going to be out of this world, you can just predict. I hope Charlene's dress is modern with a hint of a classic cut: it would be nice to see the modern woman and the modern institution reflected throughout the wedding in the choice of dress and setting.

It's been a perfect balance until this point (unlike W&K's which felt like overload). The location, architecture and scenery is just going to be out of this world, you can just predict. I hope Charlene's dress is modern with a hint of a classic cut: it would be nice to see the modern woman and the modern institution reflected throughout the wedding in the choice of dress and setting.

The problem is, the news and entertainment industry like to overuse hyperbole. Every election is "The most important" every wedding is "of the century" They really need to dial back, because they make themselves look like fools when they do this.
I think Charlene's dress will be simple, but elegant. I can't see her in something big and poofy, like Kate. Kate looked very fairy-tale princess-y, and I think that Charlene will look like a goddess

I think you're spot on. Charlene will likely go for a sleek, "Venus" style dress: something modern, sexily subdued and awe inspiring yet with a slight classic twist. Kate's dress was very pretty (it was a shame that the best feature - the embroidery - was lost on camera) but it was virtually a copy of Princess Grace's dress which consequently showed little imagination or spectacle in my eyes (subjective of course). It was quite low key and safe. I hope Charlene's dress provides a more ravishing and unexpected spectacle in step with the surroundings and opulence that will be on show.

Okay, am I the only person who is wondering whether Charlene did indeed try to run away just 3 days before the wedding?!!! :eyes:
The DM article said that Charlene's passport was confiscated by the police in order to detain her, and they gave the name of the police officer that confiscated it. Furthermore, the french newspaper that released the story says that they are not removing it or printing a detraction, and the Palace isn't doing anything about it. Prince Albert's legal representation isn't doing anything about the story, why?
There's a remote possibility that the story was true. If so, it could be a combination of nerves on Charlene's part, and maybe even true upset at the revelation of yet
another love child of Albert's, especially if the woman is pregnant now. But so far the whole 'love child' thing is just a rumour that hasn't been confirmed in any way.
I do believe it's possible that Charlene might've tried to leave though, but if so, what would be behind it. Just nerves, or....? :shrug:

I've been wondering about it, too, but I haven't been keeping up with the wedding preparations, so I don't know enough to have an opinion about whether or not it could be true. What bothers me is ...

Charlene has a lot of intensive French lessons. At the moment, she speaks only in English before cameras and doesn't feel at ease when speaking French. But languageand culture are not a problem for the couple as Prince Albert speaks fluently English and his mother is American of course.
what is with people in their thirties and long term relationships that make them unready? she should have known his intentions and with that she should have prepared herself for the lifestyle and all that entails...seems as though she might like the perks rather than the actual thing itself.

During the French Revolution, the revolutionaries not only happened to hate aristocracy but also the clergy. Not only they seized aristocrats' properties, but also the clergy's ones.
Before Revolution, all weddings simply occurred in churches. At a moment, they tried to change the religion and create a totally new one. Obviously, this never worked because this religion had no real cultural roots unlike Henry VIII's one. But it shows French revolutionaries' hatred for clergymen.
But revolutionaries implemented laws which forced people to marry before the civil institutions instead of "associating with" clergymen.
This explains France's tradition of non-religious nature. Nowadays, this revolutionary law has never been changed. French people must marry in the town hall BEFORE marrying in church. This type of ceremony is as attented as religious ceremony. As town halls and churches are locally separated, there are often convoys of honking cars across the town. When there is a religious ceremony, it is considered the most important one traditionnally.

Yes, Charlotte did not need the headpiece but she is stilll stunning, IMO. I thought Pr. Caroline and Stephanie were dressed nicely. I expected less of Stephanie. It was also nice of Albert to involve several of the children!

I did not enjoy the wedding at all, they looked very miserable and not very happy at all. The idea of the wedding being sponsored by private companies like Lexus and the whole idea of vast amounts of money being spent really does make the whole thing look tacky.
Then again, Monaco is not known for its majestic style, but rather for its high spender reputation.
I thought the choice of music was a little odd in some places. And they really didn't look very happy, though at times, it seemed that Albert was trying to put a face on. I noticed he was coaching her in the chapel before she left her bouquet at the altar. And I thought he told her to hold his arm again. Surely they must have had rehearsals?

there was this moment after the ceremony where they were being serenaded by these girls....charlene was looking down and looked like she was nervous or going to cry and the prince looked at her kinda a little bit annoyed but they were covering it up....

Not sure what is going on with these two...but she looks unbelievable! She knocked it out of the park and that to me is a fabulous dress. It is elegant and classy. Simple, yes, but I think too much lace can look frump and too much of a throwback...and too much sparkle can look chav. I think this dress let her beauty shine. I love her hair and makeup.

With all the "C" names, I had to read this twice before I got them straight in my head. :laugh: I find Charlotte sensual, but not necessarily beautiful. I couldn't see Caroline all that well because of the wide brim of her hat. Charlene looks, to me, like the girl next door ... pretty, fresh, innocent, sweet. She made a lovely bride. She also looked a little out of her element.

she has been living in monaco for quite some time and off the prince....she couldnt afford the lifestyle herself so i think she accustomed...i highly doubt she was shock...nervous perhaps.. :wink:

I don't know if it technically has a throne, but IIRC it is still an absolute monarchy... with the Prince having pretty much all the power. At present Caroline is heir to the throne until Albert has a child

It is unclear to me what changes Ranier made to the constitution except that only legitimate issue of the heir could inherit the throne. Clearly he didn't want the half African son to inherit the throne. Pure hypocrisy as his own mother was illegitimate, the child of a maid/laundress/dressmaker. She, Princess Charlotte, was adopted by Prince Louis as an adult. The legality of this adoption was highly questionable. Once she was appropriately married and bore an heir she ceded her rights to accession to Ranier and went off to liver her life, later cohabitating with a famous jewel thief. She also reportedly ran a half way house to help reform convicts.
A bit of racism on the part of Ranier IMO.
Back to the original point,previously a male heir was required otherwise Monaco was to revert to france. Was Ranier able to change this, with acquiescence from France?

Apparently many people disagree. I was shocked by the number of comments on the Daily Mail pointing to Charlene as far prettier that Catherine.
It is not a competition, however, I preferred Kate's classic gown and she really looked so happy during the ceremony, after the ceremony and ever since.
Charlene struck me as very, very sad. I hope the rumors are false.

I thought that one of the changes made was that children born out of wedlock could be legitimated by this subsequent marriage of their parents and hence could become legal heirs. IIRC Stephanie's first child was born before her marriage but was legitimated by her later marrying the child's father... and so Albert if he married the motehr of his son then would make the son legitimate and an heir to the throne. And IIRC Rainier's mother was illegitimate but was adopted and legitimated by her father?
BUT I Seems also to remember that some years ago Rainier disinherited Stephanie because he was so fed up and disgusted by her behaviour so she was out of the line. I assume she's been restored.

Apologies for my critique of the bride earlier. She is overall attractive and definitely made an elegant bride at a really elegant affair.
Love the gown of the dress but not the top. It was very simple up top and looked like it had the boobies sticking out like Kate's. The top was very like Victoria's but i thought Victoria did the right thing by marrying in such a simple dress as Danial didn't have a uniform to wear so she didn't go over the top.
But the gown of Charlene's dress was breathtaking.
I think Charlene is very beautiful, kind of reminds me of Grace Kelly. She obviously has bad taste in men, but whatever. The gown all around was a bore, and I think the top was kind of ugly.
Charlene had alot of work done..to make herself look "acceptable" which is sad....she clearly had some liquid plastic surgery aswell as breast augmentation done.

:flower: It's amazing how perspectives can differ, because I thought sort of the opposite. Wills and Kate not only smiled a lot and looked happy, they actually smiled at
each other, and looked at each other throughout the wedding ceremony. There are literally lots, I mean multiples, of photos showing Wills and Kate looking directly at each other and smiling during the ceremony and after the ceremony. There is even an overhead pic or overhead video shot of Wills and Kate riding in the carriage, and when they came out of that short tunnel or whatever it was they were holding hands.
Plus, Wills told Kate 'you look beautiful' at the altar and smiled at her. Albert didn't do anything close to that with Charlene. I do think Albert and Charlene showed some affection towards each other, but they didn't show it until after the wedding ceremony. They both looked sad throughout the wedding ceremony, especially Charlene. At one point Charlene looked so despondent I felt sorry for her and I wondered if she was getting married even though she didn't really have her heart in it.
The only time I felt that she showed some emotion was when she cried in the little church where she left her bouquet. When Albert asked her for a kiss outside of the church, she gave him a brief kiss but IMO her body language wasn't affectionate. However, I have to be fair and say that looking at pictures and even video doesn't always tell the true story. No matter what we see in photos or video footage, we're still on the outside looking in. For all I know, Albert and Charlene are very much in love. But today it didn't look that way to me, and to be honest, I was actually hoping that they
would look deeply in love.
As far as the paternity test goes, just because a person takes a paternity test doesn't mean they've done something wrong. It could be that Albert just wants to make a point, and he's taking the test to stop all the rumours once and for all. But it could be that Charlene was upset about the accusations happening so close to the wedding. IMO, if nothing else, someone is trying to make Albert's future happiness difficult.

I liked the wedding dress of Kate Middleton a lot,so I think Charlene was not so much flattering with the Armani simple wedding dress,she chosed,so in my opinion, Charlene would have been better with a more sophisticated wedding dress,and with tiara and earrings of course.
I just had to laugh at anyone who thinks WnK didn't look happy at their wedding. The only wedding I have seen with more smiling was Victoria and Daniel.
As for the recent wedding, I tend to think that weddings in Monaco, perhaps because they are Catholic, are more serious and the bride and groom are told not to grin too much.
i think it's not fair to make comparison between weddings, just because every person has their own reaction and personality. In addition i don't know well C&A as i know W&K, but it must be said, when I looked at C&A videos of the engagement and then the wedding, i had the souspect there was something odd...during the engagement video they were set apart from each other and barely look at each other...and then the balcony kiss...it was like they didn't practise that too much...i don't know.
I just hope things will work for them as well, Charlene is such a beautiful woman...

Well I have to say I like this wedding very much, more than Kate's and Will's wedding in any case. Charlene was beautiful, her dress was simply amazing and her hairpiece made of diamonts ... WOW! As for the other guests at the wedding: CP Mary was stunning at the ceremony and especially afterwards at the dinner, Madeleine and Mette-Marit pretty as always, Charlotte .....well, well, well call it Chanel but her outfit was terrible and her headpiece especially, Caroline's facial expression was priceless - she really looked pissed off by this wedding. But the star was apart from Charlene Princess Stephanie's older daughter Pauline. Now that's a pretty and lovely girl and far from being haughty and cold as her so-called "stunning" cousin Charlotte.

I suppose we'll soon find out if they're true or not. I'm more interested in whether or not Charlene really tried to leave before the civil ceremony. There were just too many reports of the incident, along with no real explanation from the palace, for it to be discounted. If she really tried to leave and was stopped (and, according to a couple of reports, her passport taken from her), that's scary.
Charlene didn't look at all happy to me at either the civil or the religious ceremony. I felt like her face was set in stone. Albert winked at her a few times during the religious ceremony, but he was winking at the wedding guests as he walked down the carpet, too. Well, I hope both reports are wrong and that they have a happy marriage.

The reason Grace looked sombre at her wedding was because there had been so much hype about it and the American press invaded Monaco she was worn out.
Am curious though, does anyone know why Albert and Charlene chose to have a civil ceremony followed by the blessing in church? Why not marry in church?

Well,they followed the tradition of Rainier and Grace,first civil wedding at Salon du throne,and second religious wedding in a Cathedral as Rainier and Grace,or in the courtyard of Palace ,as Albert and Charlene,but always 2 ceremonies.

I sensed she was not joyous during the ceremony. I thought her bursting into tears was worrisome and I didn't think Albert comforted her enough at that time.
How scary that "officials" can confiscate the passport of a non criminal? Shocking. This has been confirmed by high level police officials in Nice to Le Figaro, very troubling IMO.
Maybe that is why she resorted to the plastic surgery, she feels insecure because of possible other women? I do hope there is no additional young child, Charlene does not deserve this, she really seems like a sweet, sweet girl.

I don't follow the Principality of Monaco, so I really don't know or have an opinion. Good luck to Princess Charlene!
Sarcastically I would wish her "good luck" but in reality, I'm horrified by this situation. How can ordinary women expect any help if someone this high profile is forced into a version of sexual slavery? Isn't that what's required of her...to produce a legitimate heir for Monaco? All those people scared of paying French taxes so it's okay to force one very scared and unhappy person into an unwanted marriage. Aren't there many other vain and shallow women in Monaco that would be more than happy with marrying this ageing man no matter how many children that are out there?

Scook, Yes, my last opinion so to speak- months ago about Albert is similar to what you have said, which translates to the minimum knowledge - out of wedlock children and Charlene dating him, before formal engagement. Never liked him :gross:

Charlene seems to have been denied asylum in her embassy and the palace had taken her passport....no country was going to get involved in this minor diplomatic incident. She realized too late that she was in way over head and being used.
One question I am wondering since hearing about the latest child(ren)....does Monaco sell condoms?

where did you read all this? I've had a look at the Net and theres nothing about her "running away".. and I presume she is from a wealthy family... plus she is 33....

I heard about it in the run up to the wedding. There was an article in the Evening Standard about how she supposedly tried to run away and was stopped at Nice airport and her passport confiscated. At first I didn't believe it. Now I don't know what to think?

Amabel, I'm trying to find the story that I had read before the wedding but it's tough going b/c of all the controversy now...the article was an interview of a journalist who had recently talked with Charlene. As background for the story describing jealousy of Charlene, etc., she talked about Charlene's background. That's what piqued my interest a tiny bit in this future princess before that I just rolled my eyes at this wedding b/c I thought it was so obvious that this was a very pragmatic arrangement on the part of Albert. Now, of course, that's been proven to be the absolute truth.
Here's an example of Charlene's obliviousness...she wants to know if Albert cheated on her during their 5-year relationship. Well, doing simple math if the supposed new baby is 18 months old and you've been seeing each other for 5 years, I think the answer is "yes". But, the M palace says the latest incident occurred when they were on a "break". Apparently, that's news to Charlene that they had a break.
I think the M palace has zero credibility but to be fair, Albert doesn't make it easy for them. So, maybe, it's just that Albert has zero credibility. Sad situation all around.

I doubt it's the two children who are publicly known, but rather the one claim (or, as I've read recently, two) that has just surfaced. The child in question is apparently 16 months old, and the mother is demanding (requesting?) a DNA test.

That's exactly it. Once is "ooops", twice is "tsk tsk". And now three (or four?) times? That's irresponsibility. And that's not even taking into consideration the feelings of the children.

Sad. Just sad. Despite it all there is a part of me that would like for Prince Albert and Princess Charlene to work it out (if that's possible) but it all sounds so awful and cruel that I don't think that they'll be able to do so. Time will tell.

I don't view Charlene as a victim. They have been together for awhile and she could have broken it off a long time ago prior to the supposed fleeing incidents. I do think she is too good for Albert, but his bastard ways have been known for years, and she still said yes to the engagement.
This whole thing smells worse than last week's fish.
Hopefully she'll figure out that she should pretend to go along, and at the first available opportunity, regain her passport and return to South Africa. Hopefully not pregnant. Then divorce this jerk.
She's young enough to start over.
IF she does not want to be with him, then she needs to do so before children are involved. Because apparently if there are children, he will get to keep them.
I didn't care at all about this wedding or marrige at first but now i am very intrigued and somewhat obsessed with watching this Royal Soap Opera play out. :eyes:
Here's a funny thought (as in ironic)...what if she became pregnant but not with his kid? Isn't what's good for the gander, good for the goose? Then, she would have the child she wants and still be married to the millionaire prince. That's what would happen if this was a soap opera.

I'm sceptical. I agree if they've been together so long, she knew what he was like and she could have broken off the relationship. But I suppose if there is another "baby story" breaking, the tabloid press is going ot invent some drama about the wedding..
What bothers me more than anything ... if the stories are true ... is that she was stopped when she tried to leave. In my opinion, that's slightly nightmarish.

I should like to think that if this were true and Charlene truly wanted to leave, that she would have had the conviction to follow her instinct and head. But that said, this is all media rumour at the moment - there hasn't been any concrete facts to prove this is actually the case and the media always like a sensationalist story to sell (especially when its linked to royal houses).
Even so, taking this story on face value, can you imagine the pressure on Charlene of trying to flee Monaco and the royal wedding? It isn't an easy prospect. Trying to escape a private wedding is hard enough but one which is in the media spotlight and under the control and influence of the royal court! I truly feel for her if she has felt forced into this situation.
But on a much brighter note she looked incredible. Her dress was sensational! Much nicer that Kate's imv. A perfect cross between the modern and traditional and very youthful (age appropriate). I simply adore the pearl embellished embroidery running down the front of the dress and the off-the-shoulder style is beautiful. Very elegant.

It resembles Camilla's spray effect headpiece during her civil ceremony. Horrid thing actually. I wouldn't equate that to a tiara - more of a headpiece as cinrit said.
I suppose it's possible that Charlene was returning to South Africa for crisis talks with her family. With the DNA tests and rumours of another love child/affair, it's possible that Charlene needed to get away for a few days and speak to her nearest and dearest about what to do before the ceremony. The fact that she didn't make it suggests - if the press are to be believed - that she was talked into staying. Whether that was a heart to heart with Albert or a more forceful confiscation of her passport, we may never know. But whatever the case I hope she makes a decision that's right for her and not for Albert and his wishes. We know from Diana's history that royal courts can be quite fearsome in their pursuit to get what they want whilst maintaining the image of the monarchy. Certainly, being used to produce an heir is horrific (even though the reality of all royal brides is the same in that their duty is to produce legitimate heirs). But I know I would never personally sell my womb and wish for true love in exchange for a millonaire-lifestyle and a title. Titles and money are worth nothing in reality: they're for the ego and the insecure who feel that such things somehow validate them.
