Did she not owe considerably more than that a few years ago?

Quote
She had her heart set on a bash of royal proportions, but Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson has been forced to cancel her 50th birthday party for 300 guests amid fears she is facing bankruptcy.
She is said to have  planned the celebration at Royal Lodge, the Windsor residence of Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother until her death there in 2002.
Instead, just a dozen close friends and family will join Sarah Ferguson for the celebrations tomorrow.
This would be the latest blow for The Duchess Of York who days ago announced plans to shut her New York media firm Hartmoor LLC due to debts of over £700,000.
A close friend said: 'Reality has hit home. Her debts are out of control.'

I've read in various places that the reason Fergie and Andrew were still friendly was that Fergie gave a lot to support Andy's lifestyle since he didn't get enough from his work as business ambassador for the UK.  Now time will tell if there was any truth to that.  And if it was true, and Andy doesn't help Fergie in return when she needs it then we might look forward to a great bestseller written by a ghost of course...

I wouldn't be at all surprised.

You remember that interview of the ex-bf of Beatrice in the DM ?

One of the gf of Andrew was having some troubles in NY... he could not give her some money... so finally it was Fergie who arranged the whole thing for the guy to go in NY and help that woman. At the end Fergie was the one who ended up to reimburse the guy!

£700,000 she can got over it. It's nothing compared to the debts she contracted before. If she finds a new contract as she did with WW or by writing books since she'll get a check from her editor - by supposing that she got signed a minimum of £100,000 to get in advance. I'm not worry for her. She's proven to be resourceful & capable to be financially independent.

It's sad that Fergie is always in the news for the wrong reasons.
