It's traditional for the second son to serve in the military and have more leeway to serve on the front lines.

I think at least Charlotte will work as a royal because she down the road and will be the next Princess royal should her father decide to bestow the title on her, when he is King.

Definitely so for the UK in the last century or so but a little less so among their Continental peers. Also the heirs to the throne of the European monarchies do undergo military training typically in all of their nation's branches.  :)

amabel

yes TLLK obviously it is a good idea for the heir to have some knowledge of the military but it is probably frustrating not to be abel to become a full time soldier for a time and to have to move from one branch of the service to another nad not to serve on the front line....

Message from The Duchess of Cambridge: First Anniversary - Nursing Now

QuoteI am delighted that, at the end of its first year, Nursing Now has grown internationally, with local and national groups in over 60 countries. Nurses play a vital role in health teams all around the world, and this campaign is doing an important job of raising their status and profile globally.
?The dedication and professionalism of nurses is awe-inspiring.  It is wonderful news that the World Health Organization Executive Board has announced that 2020 will be the ?Year of the Nurse and Midwife?. This is a fitting celebration of the 20 million nurses worldwide and we hope that more young people will be attracted into nursing careers to ensure that the principle that health is for everyone, everywhere, becomes a reality.?

Catherine is the patron of Nursing Now.

Patronage Spotlight: The Duchess of Cambridge and East Anglia?s Children?s Hospices ? Royal Central

QuoteEACH offer care and support for children and young people with life-threatening conditions, supporting families across Cambridgeshire, Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk. Their three hospices include Milton in Cambridge, Quidenham in Norfolk, and The Treehouse in Ipswich.

Whilst one usually thinks of hospice solely in terms of end-of-life care, EACH also provides a variety of services for patients as well as their family members, including art and music therapy, specialist play, family events, support groups, and more.

Princess Cassandra

A very worthy organization. I can't imagine the compassion those who began and run this must have - very special people, I'm sure.  The Duchess' patronage has been very helpful to them.

Also it must be noted that two 21st century former British Prime Ministers have dealt with the tragic loss of children. Both the Cameron and Brown families know the pain that these families experience.

Great campaign!
It is, but it is also very real and must be painful sometimes to be patron. All the royal patrons have my admiration as they come face to face with very difficult issues while supporting and comforting those who have been so sorely afflicted. Bless them!

Princess Cassandra

In fact, I think Catherine is very empathetic, but is low key and gentle about it.

TLLK

The Royal Marsden is Europe's largest cancer treatment center and sees patients from the NHS and private insurance.  Diana made her first solo engagement here in 1982 and was the President from 1989 until her death in 1997. William took her place in 2007 and retains the position to this day.

QuoteThe Duke of Cambridge made an emotional visit to the Royal Marsden Hospital today as he followed in Princess Diana's footsteps almost forty years after her first solo engagement.

Prince William, 38, spoke to cancer patients on hospital wards during his visit today, and was seen hugging staff as he walked through corridors.

The royal, who was appointed President of The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust in 2007, met with patients and their families, and praised staff for their 'reservoirs of campassion' as they discussed the psychological support at the centre.

The Duke has visited the hospital regularly since his appointment as President in 2007, most recently in 2017 when he visited the Radiotherapy Department and Oak Centre for Children and Young People.

The hospital has a poignant significance for William, as it was the place Princess Diana visited on her first solo engagement in 1982.

Here is more effusiveness from Kate's Collaborators.

Her head's in the clouds! Duchess of Cambridge helps design new log seat to help sunbathers watch the world go by without worrying about grass stains
Kate is a fan of creating things and was keen to develop the design
Carved log provides an angle to look up at clouds from comfortable position
Experts say the duchess has a natural talent for design: 'She has this vision and knows how to do it'

The 37-year-old Royal helped design a carved log that's perfectly angled to provide a comfortable position from which you can gaze at the sky.
Unveiled at the garden she helped create for the Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival, the seat was designed with landscape architects Adam White and Andree Davies.

Mr White added: 'Andree and I had a go at making them. I'll be honest, they were awful. We were put to shame!'

Ms Davies added that Kate has a natural talent for design: 'She has this vision and knows how to do it.'
After the festival finishes today, the garden ? which the Duchess and Davies White Ltd created for the Royal Horticultural Society ? will move to Dewnans Centre, a mental health centre in Devon.

Apparently Kate DIY the wood log seat pictured in the article, as her collaborators go to make it was awful.

Today is also the last day of this 2nd showing and the garden will go to Dewnans Mental Health Centre.

The 3rd garden Kate and her collaborators will create will be this coming September 2019.

To me it should be the collaborators who get mentioned first. Now all of a sudden she invents things.

Prince William and Boris Johnson back first national memorial for emergency service workers

Quote

The first national memorial for thousands of emergency service workers killed in the line of duty is being launched with the support of the Duke of Cambridge, the Prime Minister and five of his predecessors.

Plans for the ?999 statue? are unveiled today exclusively in The Telegraph at the launch of a ?3 million fundraising campaign needed to get it built.

The bronze monument is being designed by Philip Jackson, a sculptor to the Queen and widely considered Britain?s greatest living sculptor.

The National Emergency Services Memorial will commemorate the lives of more than 7,000 people who died while serving in police, fire, coastguard and search and rescue services but will also celebrate the work ?and dedication of over two million serving in our emergency services today?.

Prince William, a former air ambulance pilot, will be given a private audience to see the plans in the coming weeks but has already given his approval for the first national monument for the emergency services.

The Duke told The Telegraph: ?As a society, we owe our wellbeing, and indeed our lives, to the men and women in our emergency services who work tirelessly to protect us in some of the most difficult circumstances. It is only fitting that we should recognise the vital role that they play, and pay tribute to the bravery and dedication of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their communities.?

IMVHO this is an honor that should be given to all emergency service workers who run toward danger everyday of the year and at all hours of the day/night.

On another aspect, I think those powder blue coats they're wearing was the sort of thing Harry talked about on the Diana anniversary TV programme when he referred to being dressed up in vile clothing!

TLLK

LOL  well...considering what I've noticed about the Wales' brothers taste in clothing it would appear that they've decided that their "old faithful" blue suits look nothing like the powder blue coats that they wore as children.
