I agree the press were less affectionate towards her than they were towards Diana at the time.. having said that, much of the criticism that she got after the first year or so was deserved.  She did get bored with duties and began to act like she thought royal life was meant to be all fun.. and that the courtiers were mean people stopping her form enjoying herself.   She over spent.. and did not take into account that she and Andy had a lot less money than Charles and Diana.
She acted like she was surprised that Andrew was away a lot, when it was obvious that he would be, and then began to fool around with Wyatt... and I think grew bored with Andy when he was around..
She made mistake after mistake and seemed to think that the public and press would just smile benignly on all of htem.

Oh yes, there is no doubt she created her own problems.  I guess I just felt bad that when the media got hold of her for her bad judgment they were so vicious - sort of like hens pecking on a weak member of the flock. And then of course she made it even worse by committing the same errors again.

I agree that they never liked her as much as Diana.. and it was hard for her to compete with the perfect princess who was slim, well dressed beautiful elegant and so popular.  Fergie got a bit of admiration for being lively and fun, and warm hearted but she was always rather gauche, she didn't dress well.. worst of all she was FAT..
But wihile I hav some sympathy, a lot of the trouble was her own fault.  She was not the hardest worker, she started to whinge ad complain when she got bad Press and then I think after getting on OK with the RF, she began to see them and the courtiers as "the enemy" and to carp about them as well.  And she did seem to be on a slide of making endless mistakes.. and intstead of pulling herself together and trying to work hard and win favour again, she just went "royal life and marriage isn't what I expected I want out"...

In a recent interview the interviewer, in a voice over, noted that they (Sarah and Andrew) both admit they didn't work hard enough on their marriage. I suppose it is not for us to say yay or nay to that, but I've always thought it was strange that she makes it seem like all those separations (she says they only spent 40 days together each year) were the major cause of the breakdown of their marriage.  Didn't she realize that was going to be the case when they got married?  How many military spouses have it even worse than that?  The real issue is probably that she still doesn't realize that she should have expected and accepted the absences.  I think she is well meaning and feel very sorry for her.  She acknowledges she made a lot of mistakes and truly regrets the marriage failure, but she doesn't seem to understand the root causes of her problems.

Yes, I think the same way. Didn't she know it would be the case, and couldn't she go without sex/male attention while her husband did his military duty? Wives and husbands everywhere do it. It seems like these people (and I include my beloved Diana) don't have the ability to entertain themselves. Read books, paint, design clothes, do volunteer work, garden, pets, children, all of the things we do to enrich our lives. They get bored so easily and are like kids who need to be constantly entertained.

I'll bet everyone on this web site enjoys some form of reading and I think that many of us write, do puzzles, and have a lot of interests. I can tell by the eloquence of the posts here. We have hobbies and rich internal lives. I actually live alone, but am often a foster parent. I prefer my alone time to be honest. I need it to recharge.

I do not want anyone sucking my toes.  :girlblush:

I believe that growing up wealthy and having many things done for you can create a very shallow person.

Yes! I remember how cruel the media and people were to her, calling her the Duchess of Pork, etc. As a person with a life long weight problem, that would have just killed me. Although, Andrew seemed to love her and find her irresistible at any size; sometimes if our self esteem is that damaged, nothing and no one can make us feel pretty. I have often said that the biggest sin a woman can commit is being normal to over weight. She can be an axe murderer, a thief, crazy as all get out, but if she is thin, it is all okay.  Or so it seems from my chubby point of view.

Reading about her and their relationship in the Housekeepers Diary or whatever it was titled, she and Andrew seemed so well suited for each other. I am glad they are able to be together now in a situation that seems to work for them.

She got bored quickly with Andrew, who just liked golf and sitting in front of the TV. She reached out to other men. I am not so sure they will get back together.

Princess Cassandra

I just re-read our posts on this thread and noticed a common denominator in her life; she was not born with good judgment. Some people are born with excellent judgment, meaning that when it comes to making decisions in their lives they almost always make the right ones. Some people recognize the need to develop it, and some just can't recognize that they need to. In any case, I'm glad that if they can't be married they remain very close...she genuinely needs someone solid in her life.
