One of his first foreign trips was in New York City with the Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs to attend the Millennium Conference. Held in 2005 in the United Nation?s headquarters, the meeting was aimed at finding solutions to eradicate extreme poverty around the world, something that His Royal Highness has long held dear since. Within Luxembourg, Prince Guillaume is the patron of a number of councils and boards that promote excellence within the country; His Royal Highness is particularly interested in creating a collaborative work environment where different sectors can work together to achieve one common goal. A good example of this is his effort to end homelessness by providing affordable housing or accessible housing for people with disabilities; he has put together members from boards of building firms, organisations that work with the vulnerable and state actors to make it happen.

But the most high profile piece of his preparation puzzle comes in the form of official state duties. Since his swearing-in as Hereditary Grand Duke, Prince Guillaume has attended an increasing number of official functions with Grand Duke Henri, including State Council meetings, New Year diplomatic audiences and a good number of state and official visits.

His 40th birthday marks the beginning of a new chapter, during which he will not only have to keep learning how to best perform his duties as head of state, but he also has to pass that knowledge onto his son, who, one day, will also inherit the responsibilities his father and grandfathers have. He will have to step more and more into the spotlight as his role becomes more consolidated and prominent, always with the support of his wife, who has taken her own share of representation work ever since the two got married in 2012.

If ever there was a prouder father (or mother) that Guillame in that photo I?ve yet to see it! The only thing I would add is that I hope that baby Charles gets a sibling in the future.

For his 40th birthday, HGD Guillaume received from the staff of the Kraizbierg Foundation an Advent calendar including products made in his workshops where the extent of the know-how of the employees is expressed. with disabilities.

I saw this yesterday. Doesn?t Alexandra?s ring have pink stones, rather like Eugenie?s, which I love? Nicolas grew up in Brittany apparently, a lovely part of the world I used to visit as a child with my family. He?s got unusual hair too, prematurely white! Congratulations to them both!

@Curryong It does look like may have pink stones. I actually thought instantly of Eugenie's ring from the photo what little we see.

Alexandra has lived in Paris since finishing her masters so no surprise her fiance is French. I'd love to visit Brittany one day.

 I expect that the couple will reside in Paris after they marry this spring. Alexandra seems to have been living there too. Here's a little background on Nicolas.

Thanks for the extra info on Nicolas. Isn?t Marlene Koenig marvellous? I knew Nicolas was well educated but Wow. Even if translating books on saints at an obscure publishers isn?t going to bring in a lot of money it is obviously satisfying to him. And to live in Paris fulltime as a newly wed, beautiful!

Not bad money in book translating. But he will also make descent money working in magazine publishing.

Both well educated, with a love for history and literature. I can see a happy future in Paris for these two.

Happy news between this and Guillauma/Stephanie baby, the spring should be bright. Certainly happier then this spring with calling off of Louis' engagement.

Yes, nothing better than a baby and wedding to lift spirits. I did wonder at the time of Louis? broken engagement whether it had something to do with Tessy being a bit of an exuberant over-sharer in her life and others. Sometimes fianc?es find that sort of personality in their loved one?s ex a bit hard to handle.

The Luxembourg Court has released details for Alexandra and Nicolas' wedding.  :hearts: Honestly I believe that this will be an intimate family wedding. Perhaps the only foreign royals will be from Belgium, Lichtenstein  and the non-reigning Hapsburgs because of family relations. The GD's sisters married into the Lichtenstein and Hapsburg families and the Belgians are first cousins.

I?m sure it?s a coincidence. Even close friends who attend each others? weddings don?t often remember the exact date. And, by the way, 29th April is also the day in 1945 that Adolf Hitler married Eva Braun.

Yes, I certainly think that a clutch of Hapsburgs from that huge clan will turn up. I can?t imagine that any royal other than family connections will turn up for this wedding, which I?m sure will be intimate and lovely!

I believe the royal guest list  will be similar to what we've saw at Prince Felix's 2013  wedding with the  Hapsburgs (Bride's paternal aunt and cousins), a few of the Belgians (First cousins to GD Henri and siblings) and the Liechtensteiners (Bride's paternal aunt and cousins.)

Thank you for posting the guest list from Felix?s wedding. Well, I would guess Tessy won?t be present, though you never know, lol! And perhaps all her sons won?t attend. And as for Stephanie, isn?t this wedding scheduled a bit close to Steph?s due date, though of course with babies he/she could be early. I can imagine most of the guests being of a similar familial relationship. It will be interesting to see the groom?s relatives too.

Alexandra and Nicholas look very happy. Congratulations to them. The religious ceremony will be very interesting I?m sure.

The Civil Ceremony appears to have just been family only, I'm expecting that the religious ceremony is where we'll  likely see their friends and extended family including Alexandra's cousins from reigning royals in Belgium, Lichtenstein and the non-reigning Imperial Hapsburg family.

Alexandra is married now and a very nice wedding yet her gown is just ugly, so ill fitting and way to big on the top.  She is a very pretty lady and her mom, what was she thinking of wearing that jumpsuit to the wedding....wanting attention over her daughter's wedding maybe.....or not, just a big NO  :no:

Not a great fan of the bridal gown. I don?t think Alexandra is an Uber fan of fashion anyway, but the folds all wrapping over the bodice and waist seem to have done something strange to the waistline of the gown. On the other hand, I think her dainty tiara and her veil were gorgeous. She looked very happy of course.

As for MT. A jumpsuit is a very unusual choice for mother of the bride, and the enormous cabbage -er sorry, rose, on her shoulder wasn?t exactly flattering. I haven?t seen a rose that big on an outfit since Dynasty and Joan Collins!
MT?s physique, short and cuddly, resembles mine and I would not be brave or foolhardy enough to wear that outfit. I do think chutzpah is not enough. It needs a Maxi, tall and slender to carry that jumpsuit and accessories off imo. Even though, it?s certainly memorable!

I am all for pantsuits on women even in formal occasions. Loved Alexandra's pant choice for her civil.

That said the cabbage look was hiddeous.

Alexandra's veil and the tiara were beautiful as was the radiant bride. I actually liked her gown, though unfortunately like Meghan's, the fitting was not perfect.

I wish Princess Alexandra and Nicolas many years of happiness.  :partaay:

Princess Alexandra looks so very happy during the reception. Hair down, veil off and so much more relaxed.

As for the dress, it wasn't the best style of bodice IMHO for her figure, but she was still a lovely bride.

Sisters-in-law Stephanie and Claire looked fine and I'm giving points to Stephanie for just being there soon after her second child was born. Speaking of babies, Cousin Imre and wife Kathleen are set to expand their family again.

The less said about Maria Teresa the better.

Yes, absolutely heartwarming and gorgeous photos of the family. I think Charles resembles his mother in looks, so far. Love the photo of Charles feeding his father cake. Watch out in a couple of years when the two brothers are tearing around!
