QuoteSaying that time is running out for fixes as oceans rise and grow more acidic, Prince Albert II of Monaco on Friday expressed hope that a retreat at Sunnylands offers a vital opportunity for scientists and policymakers to agree on potential solutions.

Albert's comments came in an email to The Desert Sun hours before he opened the three-day retreat at the Annenberg family estate in Rancho Mirage.

"This retreat is bringing together scientists, marine environment specialists as well as economic and political decision makers. It is up to the first two categories to get the message across to the two second categories, who alone are able to take the measures that are necessary," the prince said in the emailed statement.  "Time is now running out and everyone must make an effort to reverse the trends that are leading this planet to a catastrophic future. It is only by uniting all our efforts that we will be able to work on solutions that will allow our planet to find a sustainable way forward."
