SPECIAL FEATURE: A voice for the unborn: Lord Nicholas Windsor in Australia (John Ballantyne)

Lord Nicholas, 42, is the youngest child of the Duke and Duchess of Kent, a great-grandson of King George V and first cousin once removed of Queen Elizabeth II.

On the eve of the Melbourne march, he delivered the inaugural March for the Babies Oration at Melbourne's Sofitel Hotel.

Before he commenced his address, he made a special request to the audience. He asked them: "Please can we begin by keeping a minute's silence? I ask you to pray for our brothers and sisters in the human family who are at this moment alive in the wombs of their mothers, but for whom another day of life is not a given.... Pray too for those same mothers that they may have the courage, and the love of others, so as to bring their child into this world."

In his speech he said: "We are always first of all for life, welcoming it, joyful at the good news of new life, but inspired to hasten to help the mother less able to help herself. Because, for all manner of reasons, childbearing, childbirth and childrearing are tasks that call for great sacrifice and courage on the part of women....

"Loud voices aren't all we need. We need soft and sweet voices too. And then again silence, because silence reminds us of the missing, the fallen, the painful absence of those who might have lived noisily amongst us — in our homes, in our streets and gardens. But they are absent, taken from us, and because of that they can too easily be forgotten.

The Duke of Kent, Grand Master, United Grand Lodge of England, this morning, as First Grand Principal, attended a Meeting of the Supreme Grand Chapter at Freemasons' Hall, 60 Great Queen Street, London WC2.

Her Majesty was represented by The Duke of Kent at the Memorial Commemoration for Sir Ewen Fergusson (formerly Her Majesty's Ambassador to the French Republic) which was held at the National Gallery, London WC2, this evening.

The Duke of Kent this morning officially opened Folkestone Museum, the Town Hall, 1-2 Guildhall Street, Folkestone, and was received by Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant of Kent (the Viscount De L'Isle).

His Royal Highness this afternoon officially opened the Jaguar Lodge, the Big Cat Sanctuary, Headcorn Road, Smarden, Kent.

The Duke of Kent later presented The Queen's Award for Enterprise: International Trade to Premier Coatings Limited, Marley Farm Industrial Estate, Headcorn Road, Smarden.

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh were present this evening at the Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall. The Duke of Kent was also present.

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh were present this morning during the Ceremony at the Cenotaph on the occasion of Remembrance Day. The Duke of Kent opens University of Buckingham's new medical centre - Buckingham Advertiser

The centre will be used by medical students, training doctors, nurses and health professionals, and houses simulation operating theatres, a 200-seater lecture theatre, and replica wards for University students to practice in.
