I knew that he'd been diagnosed with dyslexia, but didn't realize until reading this that it was a moderate-severe disability. Apparently he was just diagnosed with ADHD as well in the last couple of years.

So many many people suffer from clinical depression and more and more are coming out to tell about their struggle. It's sad but uplifting at the same time.

Glad that James acknowledged the work being done by Heads Together, the Cambridges and Prince Harry when they started the campaign.
It appears that he's also volunteering with a pet therapy program.

I think he addressed that in the article - he felt it would help take the stigma out of mental illness and he also wanted those in pain to know that keeping it to oneself makes it worse. I agree that it was a great article and really conveyed the pain he has endured.
@sandy-I agree that he's not really a public figure , but he is an individual who has shared his own experience with clinical depression with a very honest and detailed article. There might be others struggling with depression, especially men who might recognize a similarity to their own mental, emotional and physical symptoms. Hopefully this might inspire someone to seek help. :)
James has done a very brave and useful thing. Men have very poor health-seeking behavior and it is good to see a young man come out and speak about his struggles with mental health. Hopefully it will encourage other men to get support. I also think that he is a public figure as a brother-in-law to a future king. That is precisely why people are bothering to report and even comment on his article.
^^^Also I hope that it dispels the "idea" that those who are considered to be privileged can also struggle even though they have all of their physical needs met.
However as
@Curryong has pointed out before, the access to help is not always easy for everyone. Especially considering that James has the resources to go to a private practice therapist, doctor etc...gives him quicker access to assistance unlike someone who is dependent upon the state funded care.
James doesn't mention by name his GP, but the GP referred him to a renowned psychiatrist in the UK, James mentions him, Dr. Stephen Pereira , who works for the NSA and also has his private practice. In his website, for those that are not privileged, he does accept appointments at the NSA.
James Instagram has increased from 5K to 130+K since he made it public, firstly due to Spencer Mathews sharing with @JMidy a TBT of his wedding to Vogue, next day James article. Since his articles was conditioned to James the writer, no comments were allowed. People have left him really nice and inspiring comments in his Instagram account.

I read the article that he wrote. I thought it was well written. It's important to talk about that sometimes there are things affecting you which you have no control over. Yes, it's more likely to be next year, late Spring, early summer I should think. If it's true. That Eden columnist often gets things wrong. Congrats to them both if he turns out to be correct. However, if I were Alizee I would be just a teensy bit concerned about the financial future in my marriage. James M might well be a very nice bloke and all the rest of it but his past business dealings and acumen have been less than stellar, to say the least.

James said in his article that he gave the reins of his company, not only as part of dealing with his depression-he had difficulties waking up in the morning and much less reading/replying emails but results finally profited. He also said that he is privileged economically (he did not want to sound like a moaner focusing on the depression article). We do not know the exact financial situation of the family, BUT in the 15 years plus in the public eye, the entire family live like upper middleclass.

I think he will have three royal children in attendance.

We all know why he is known. Hopefully people who are in need will be influenced by his example of getting help. Depression and other mental health issues need to be front and forefront, IMO. Many have been ashamed to admit they have issues, and it has been a stigma for far too long.
While of course James Middleton has every right to speak up about his battle with depression, I don't think it should be forgotten that it was Harry, in his podcast years ago for the Heads Together endeavour, that first brought this to public notice. His speaking openly about it brought a large measure of discussion in the media, and reportedly a huge jump in the number of people seeking help for their own issues, in consequence. So James is hardly a pioneer in speaking out about this.
Plus, as was noted at the time by several of us on this forum, it's all very well for people with loaded pockets (or from wealthy families) to seek advice and treatment from psychiatrists and therapists. The problem is that with the National Health Scheme in Britain and other forms of universal health care elsewhere, this sector is badly underfunded.
There are few psychiatrists and other mental health professionals working in public rather than private practice and there are long waiting lists at clinics for help there. I know through my work, here in Australia, that under the Mental Health Act people deemed by their GP to need psychiatric counselling are allowed four free visits. After that they are on their own. If they feel they need a psychiatrist then they pay, and consulting fees are not cheap, though refundable in part through Medicare.

While James and Harry presumably got the help they needed for as long as they wanted, it's the other millions of people who are stuck with nowhere to go but perhaps ongoing pharmaceuticals from their local chemists, and visits to their GPs. That's the reality of it, for all the praise!
Thank you for that information, Curryong. So there are really two very large issues; one is that it is still a stigma, and the other is that people without means cannot always get the help they need. Four visits! Rome wasn't built in a day and many people have therapy for several months or even years. But if the Prince Harrys and James Middletons of the world keep talking, at least the stigma of mental health issues may begin to reverse.
Happy for them - sounds like some major parts of his life have taken a turn for the better.
Harry is light years more known than James Middleton. Some may not know who James is. I think his influence is overstated by the media. I think if he wants to be happy he should discourage all this PR and lead a blessed private life out of the media. Other royal consort siblings have managed to do this.
It's a good cause. I support known and unknown people who wish to speak about Mental Health.
Just today I read one of the K-Pop members, age 25 committed suicide. Its all over the internet, my msn pop up, google pop up 'latest news'
I think Curryong's informative comments should convince us all that the battle is not yet won, and as many that speak out about their own experience the more aware the rest of us will be about the prevalence and seriousness of depression. Unfortunately, suicide of a famous and well known person is also making us aware of it. Hopefully this will all lead to a better trend in the number of suicides.

Well, Alizee has conceivably more relatives and friends living on the Continent than even Edo has, and no way of transporting British guests there. I so love dogs :wub:, all my furbabies have been rescued from abuse and found a great home with me, totally devoted to them and cherished each and very one of them. @Nightowl - I am the same way. All of our cats have been "gifted" to us in one way or another. Our ginger tabby went missing just before July 4 and we've have had no sightings of her. She came to us 13 years ago one months after another cat passed away. On July 17 our neighbor appeared on our doorstep with a tiny kitten in his hands. He'd found her under his dog house and no sign of a mother cat. Within the hour we had her at the vet and rearranged our house to raise a kitten. She's now 8 weeks old and scampering everywhere. Somehow I'm meant to receive another cat every time one of them passes on. The new kitten's name is Cleo.

Oh Thank you TLLK, I am so sorry to hear your furbaby disappeared and has yet to be seen, that makes me sad as I so love our 4 legged creatures. What people do not get is that all 4 legged creatures are humans just like us 2 legged creatures, we all look different and talk different is all. We all have just about the same insides, hearts, lungs, stomachs etc and we get a lot of the same diseases so why think they are less then us is what I would love to know. My Payton is now 14 and came to me at almost 6 from a bad place and believe me he is cherished in my home. He currently has heart issues with water in the lungs and takes 4 meds twice a day...we both bond over taking meds twice a day....and he is fierce, very protective of me and he *bites* as I tell people to not pet him as he is quite handsome.
I applaud anyone who adopts a furbaby for that takes lots of love, patience and time to adjust your life and home to them and to learn that the furbaby also has to learn to adjust to new beginnings. My sister on another site adopted a dog recently and she and her husband are thrilled, in fact Benny has taken over the home and now rules the roost and they couldn't be happier. Wishing you well with your new kitten and hope the other one is found soon.
My cats and my doggo are all rescues. Mys sister and brother both have bought purebreds. I completely disagree with that. Rescue animals NEED us( and us them).
I have lost two of my kitties over the years. Just disappeared. Heartbreaking and I still miss them. But each time I lose one I get/find/given another one or two. Not replacements but another soul to love and care for just when they need it the most.
My doggy Walter went over to the perfect bushlot last year in his 16 th year. He was the best pup ever.

My Wallie was just nuts. He was a weirdo that no one ever forgot once they met him. Stubborn, smart, lazy, weird, total love bug, cuddly and completely attached to me. And I loved him completely and totally.
Oh that sounds so like my Payton....he won't eat his food at all until I feed him the 1st couple of bits, then he will eat .......have no idea why this is yet it has been this way since I got him. I don't mind doing it as this way I know he is eating. Lazy, no dog is lazier then my Payton as he even lays down to eat...silly boy, so spoiled and pampered. We are the lucky ones when our furbabies are devoted to us.
Wallie was like that with food also. No, I am not trying to poison you, it?s steak. We referred to it as ?priming the pump?. The first couple bites he was h?sitent then it would kick in and he would eat. He also ate well when the cats were around. Competition.

Keeps getting delayed.
My niece has decided pandemic be darned. They are having their wedding this fall, out in the cow field ( I?m definitely wearing boots :cry:) and inviting just close family. The next day is another outdoor event - a BBQ for friends. And when COVID is all over they plan to hold a huge party - 1st anniversary.

I love outdoor weddings. My cousin was married at their cottage. There was a huge audience of uninvited guests - people going by on their boats stopped and pulled in close to shore. And when they were declared married all the boaters cheered and hit their horns and such. Amy and her husband walked out on the dock and waved to them all
My brother and SIL married on the shore of their lake on the rock. It was SO pretty.
But unless James and Alizee want to married without church vows, they are going to have to wait. Is Gretna Green still a thing in Scotland?? But you can?t travel to Scotland right now - right?
I think that they'll wait until they can have the bigger wedding and party. The Middletons do love a good party. William can Dad dance and Mike can wear his sumo costume. :dance: :sumo:

Your family outdoor weddings sound so lovely. I've only been to a few of those, most have been indoors. Loved how the other boaters were cheering for them at the lake cottage.
Outdoor weddings are great when weather is taken into consideration. My best friend got married outdoors at the historic site she worked at (the only church in town with enough seating was an Orthadox church). The wedding party (I was maid of honor) arrived via canoe to the site (we spent close to hour on water 20 minute paddle after having to wait a half hour as guests were running late). The guests had shade under tents but the wedding party was out in the open for the entire ceremony, receiving line and photos. I got sun stroke before making it to the air conditioned hall for the reception. It was +39c.
Scotland would be beautiful for James and Alize to marry but the restrictions aren't much better. By June they hope 6 people from different households can gather outdoors.

Canadian prairies of all places. We do get some intense heat waves some summers. That week is usually about 30c (early July) but yeah it was just below 40 (was like hottest it had been in the area in like 30 years).
No concussion but my sun stroke. And the groom got out of his canoe too early and stepped up to his knee in mud. We had to hide his leg in photos. Either angling that leg away, or was hidden behind the bride's gown or my skirt got discreetly positioned in a few. One of the bridesmaids (his sister) refused to get in a canoe. I only agreed to do it (hadnt since elementary school) if I was in a canoe with her older brother who was the most experienced. Groom and his brother in first, me and bride's elder brother in second, bride with her younger brother and other bridesmaid in third. Luckilly we learned quickly how far up the shore to land before I got out, so I didnt look like the groom when helped out.
Sounds like you had a fun wedding, too! Those are the weddings that you laugh over for years.
I remember last time I was driving across the prairies - brutal hot weather. And I could see a cloud bank forming. And it was getting darker. And darker. And then I realized I was the ONLY person on the road. And I drove into it. It was like being in a swirling Calderon of grey green cloud just meters above my car. I finally got off the road and ran through the hail and rain and dived into the building - a garage waiting room. Full of truckers. And there I was in soaking wet blouse and miniskirt. Total silence. Finally one of these big gruff guys said ? come on in, sweetie, we are scared , too.? :lol:
There were multiple tornados that roared through the praires that day. But I was nice and safe in Indian Head, Sask with all my trucker buddies.

The biggest stumbling block for them is they are from two different countries. Even if they were willing to just do immediate family and wait on a bigger party till later, there is travel restrictions making it difficult.

James appears to be content and happier in recent years. He chose to go public with his story about his serious depression in the hope that it might inspire others to seek help. Hopefully we'll hear news of a wedding date soon.
I have such respect for James.It takes a lot to speak of mental health. And when your sister is married to royalty and not just royalty but a royal who has her and her family in news all over the world, its even harder. The scrutiny they face, its even braver he made it public.
Sadly there are still families it's just not spoken of. My cousin took his own life ten years ago and its never spoken of. My Aunt and Uncle hid it at the time of his death, but eventually the truth came out. But its just not something anyone discusses. It irritates me.
James seems so happy with his beautiful fiancee and their pack of dogs. And getting the help needed, he really is coming into his own.

For me personally, wearing your mother-in-laws wedding dress is outstanding, just fabulous! What a way to bond with your mother-in-law. The only other thing to do would be make her favorite recipe and have it for dinner some night. I love the dress, soft and pretty it seems like. Beautiful bride and Handsome groom.......and fabulous furbabies in the mix.......can't ask for anything more then that.

Once I read that they were getting married in France, no I was not expecting a church wedding as like in Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, they're not considered legal marriages. If they'd wanted one, then they would have held it after their civil ceremony or just married in the UK.

She is also genuine and sensible, which may also be attributed to her upbringing. Being genuine is a very important piece of the puzzle. Much of the public subconsciously knows whether or not a person in the limelight is genuine. It seems that all the Middletons are the real thing.

Now this is a man I could come to admire greatly, taking care of our furbabies is very important to me. Nice to see he puts his time and money in doing that while some just talk and do nothing.
People just do not understand that dogs are just as human as we so called humans, the only difference is they look different and talk different......no big deal if a person takes the time to try to understand them.
For James its far more then the simple 'dogs are not objects they are family'. They literally were his life line.
James has been vocal about his battle with mental health. Ella is more then his first dog of his clan, but his personal emotional support dog.

Thank you for that info as I did not know that. I do understand just where he is coming from in that regards, I went through hell one time and my furbaby saved my life by just being there for me, I get his devotion and love for Ella. Even to this day since decades have passed and Boots is now gone, I still love and remember him with tears at times. I now only adopt senior dogs as they are in dire need of a good home and most people only want puppies, seniors really do appreciate and love when they are taken in to a good home...we all grow old in time, yet most never think of that.

Sadly James' beloved dog Ella has died.

Though he has a pack of dogs, Ella was his companion dog. She helped him through his battles with mental health. Company is named for her.
Ella was also the mother of the Wales' late dog Lupo. Their current dog Orla is Ella's granddaughter (daughter of Lupo's sister Luna). Not sure but Rafa, Pippa's dog I believe was also a puppy of Ella.

I have two; 11 and 9, both received certificates to travel with me 2 first class tickets, mini schnauzers, they do not have to travel in cargo any longer with the new international law. I will be moving sooner rather than I thought to my new post.
Aww I'm sorry to hear the news, but 15 is a good age for a cocker spaniel. I'm glad that Ella was there for James throughout his mental health struggles and helped him in his recovery.

You obviously are not aware that the UK is going trhough a very sever financial crisis.
So is America. get this...my meds for my heart condition usually cost me around $50 a month, so this week when they were ready off I go to pick them up....and almost fainted at the cost for the same meds, now they are $455 a month...what the hell. So called the doc and BL/BS and got some answers, someone made a huge mistake. I am just lucky I keep extra meds here in case and this is one of those *in cases* times. Groceries here are outrageous and being a health nut I do not eat meat or junk food or out. Rents are very high also, it is the way of the world right now....and something has to give to help those that need it. This can not go on forever as if so, then people will get angry and march and do stupid things.

Then came Payton, I need dogs in my life....LOL. He was 6 and dumped on the streets after his mom died and hated me the first time we met, he bit me twice so I just said ...you coming home with me so I can teach you manners, he was such a warrior, my little Viking I would say at times, he loved his home, he scared everyone who came close to him or me with his growl, leave us alone he would bark......I still miss my warrior to this day.....he was with me 14 when he left for the rainbow bridge.......now it is Cinco, again a little abandoned dog dumped on the streets when his mom died in Las Vegas.....at 11 years old, family did not want him so they dumped him on the streets and he ran those streets for a few years till he was caught and put in a dog action and ended up in Chicago where I live......I saw his picture and how terrified he was so he took my heart and I have him now......Oh do not come near him or me for he will BITE the ankle.....he is such a cutie I tell him........I have had him for a year and half now........just love him to pieces.......I have a small sign on my door,........LOL....*Dogs are very welcome, Humans are barely tolerated*......LOL. By the way, I have great neighbors who love Cinco for they know when someone comes on our floor.......LOl. I got a wild man in this dog......just my cup of tea! Sorry for the rant about dogs, I so love dogs...!

That makes perfect sense to not release any pictures of their children, privacy is so important in this day and age......wishing them tons of joy in their child and the future. :clap:

No matter how prepared I thought I was?I was not prepared for the overwhelming emotion of meeting Inigo for the first time and the love for my darling Aliz?e as we became three.
We have settled into our new life as parents and I?ve told him all about Ella and that if it wasn?t for her he wouldn?t be here today and that we miss her greatly. The dogs have been fantastic at welcoming their little brother into the pack (although Inka needs to know the teddybears are not all for her?) 🐾
We would like to thank the wonderful team at Basingstoke hospital, from the very first scan to walking out the front door for the first time as three, we couldn?t have felt more supported and looked after throughout so thank you NHS 🙏

Inigo, a shortening for Ignatius, is quite popular in Hispanic countries I believe. It?s very unusual for England but it?s normally associated with Inigo Jones the 17th century designer and architect. Several of his buildings and artifacts are still with us. One of the present Earl Snowdon?s names in Inigo.

James Middleton and his wife Aliz?e Thevenet made a rare public appearance as they stepped out with their newborn baby boy, Inigo.
The new parents enjoyed a festive night at the Dogs Trust Carol Concert at Chelsea Old Church on Thursday, where James gave a reading of a poem, What I Learned about Love, I Learned from my Dog.
The family affair was made complete with two of their "well-behaved" pet dogs, golden retrievers Mabel and Isla.
"It's been more than 40 years since Dogs Trust, or The National Canine Defence League as known then, coined the phrase 'A Dog is for Life, Not Just for Christmas', and that's just as important now as it was back then. The demand on our services is higher than it's ever been, and we are very grateful to everyone who has supported our work over the last 12 months, enabling us to continue caring for the nation's dogs."
That was so beautiful, Yes, A Dog is for life as they are members of a family to be treated with love and respect. I am a huge dog lover, I adopt only old abused abandoned dumped senior dogs ever....they need me or someone like me to cherish them and give them a great home. I have made lots of mistakes in my life all because of family yet the one thing I am very proud of is that fact that all the dogs that I have adopted in life just Love their homes, Cinco like my other dogs before him, he runs to the door of our home as soon as we get off the elevator barking to get in, he loves his home runs around to check it out to make sure everything is the same as we left it for our walk. It is so nice to see someone doing the same, I have absolutely no respect for those that abuse and hurt children and or our 4 legged furbabies, that includes horses and cows and chickens for we are all human beings made from our higher power, it is just that we all look different and talk differnt yet we feel the same love and pain in life.
