David I was King of Scotland from 1124 to 1153. Brought up at the court of King Henry I of England, David was seen as too English to have the right to rule Scotland.     
David I set up court near the English-Scottish border.

King David I founded monasteries at Melrose and Holyrood. He founded royal burghs at Stirling, Perth, Dunfermline, and Edinburgh.
