Saving lives ? The Countess of Wessex becomes a vaccine centre volunteer ? Royal Central

QuoteThe Countess of Wessex has begun volunteering with St John Ambulance and the NHS at a vaccination centre in Greater London as part of the Royal Family?s wider support for the coronavirus vaccine rollout.

Sophie?s first shift was Thursday, where she helped record medical details and provide information about the vaccine to those who had come to receive their shot.

Sophie, who is Grand President of St John Ambulance, was said to have been eager to support the NHS?s vaccine rollout and the over 10,000 volunteers who are taking part from the organisation.

A spokesperson for St John Ambulance said: ?Like many of our existing and long-standing volunteers, the Countess of Wessex has completed the required training to become a care volunteer in support of the NHS vaccination programme.

?We?re delighted to welcome the Countess, as the Grand President of St John Ambulance, to a growing team of over 10,000 volunteers who are now trained and being deployed to NHS vaccination centres all over England, in an extraordinary collective effort to beat the pandemic.?

Sophie, who has volunteered packing food baskets and personal protective equipment throughout the pandemic, will be a regular volunteer over the coming months as more of the population is vaccinated.

Yesterday The Countess of Wessex, Grand President of @StJohnAmbulance, was presented with the First Bar to the Service Medal, marking HRH's 15 years of service to the Order.

The Countess signed a copy of a portrait photograph taken in early 2020, in which Her Royal Highness wears the robes of a Dame of the Order of St John.

More on Sophie's birthday visit that she spent volunteering for St. John's Ambulance.

Sophie marks her birthday by helping out at a vaccination centre ? Royal Central

QuoteThe Countess of Wessex celebrated her 57th birthday on Thursday and marked it by volunteering with St. John Ambulance.

Sophie had a shift at an NHS vaccination centre in Surrey run by SJA. She was seen throughout the day talking with other volunteers and helping check patients in for their vaccination.

This is not a new volunteering position for Sophie, as she volunteered with the organisation in 2021 to help with the vaccine launch and rollout. Although she is The Queen?s daughter-in-law, she was required to complete the same training that all SJA volunteers do.

In a video shared by SJA, the Countess thanked all of the volunteers working on the vaccine program and urged anyone interested in helping to contact SJA for more information.

At the end of her shift, the group gave her a bouquet of flowers to mark her birthday, as well as a Covid badge as a thank you for her dedicated support throughout the global health crisis.

SJA Chief Commissioner Ann Cable said, ?We are honoured that the Countess of Wessex chose to spend her birthday with St John.

HRH The Countess of Wessex visited our headquarters for the annual County President's conference. She met our volunteers and thanked them for their incredible efforts over the past two years, and for their role in the NHS's vaccination programme.

The Countess also met with St John Cadets, including our National Cadet of the Year, Georgina Heron-Edmends, to learn more about their lifesaving first aid work. 2022 is the centenary of the first Cadet unit being established.
