QuoteCharlotte Green, the former Radio 4 newsreader, has disclosed how she received a personal letter from the Prince of Wales, thanking her for making him cry.  The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall told her they were left with "tears rolling down their cheeks", after hearing her lose composure in the middle of a BBC broadcast.

The Prince sent a personal letter on headed notepaper to thank Green for her accidental comic turn, after she burst into uncontrollable giggles during a 2008 News broadcast.

Speaking at the Henley Literary Festival, about her new book, she explained had been reading an item about the first recording of a human voice, a version of Clair de la Lune, before being surprised by the extraordinary sound.

"It sounded like a trapped bee in a jar," she said. "It was very unfortunate in a way that I hadn't heard that particular recording before I was broadcast.
