Title: The Norwegian Royal Family General News and Discussion
Post by: TLLK on April 25, 2018, 08:54:10 PM
A thread to discuss the Norwegian Royal Family news not related to their official duties.

Crown Prince Haakon to take on regency as King Harald is on medical leave ? Royal Central (http://royalcentral.co.uk/europe/norway/crown-prince-haakon-to-take-on-regency-as-king-harald-is-on-medical-leave-101289)

QuoteHis Majesty King Harald of Norway is on medical leave from today due to pain in the foot. During this time, Crown Prince Haakon will act as regent. This was announced by the royal court at Oslo Palace Wednesday afternoon. It is uncertain how long the King will be unable to work.

Those who have seen King Harald can confirm that the King has always walked a bit strange. This is due to a long-standing problem that the King has in one foot, which has now become so bad that the King can not work.

Section 41 of the Norwegian Constitution says: ?Is the king outside the realm, or is he so ill that he can not take care of the government, the closest heir to the throne will manage the government and perform all of the royal powers?

Which might impact CP couple's visit to Lithuania.

Poor King Harald. He has certainly had some health problems in the last few years! The Lithuanian visit may have to be foreshortened for the Crown Princess couple I suppose.

Yes I do recall some health issues in the past decade or so that required his heir to act as regent for him.

83-year-old King Harald V was admitted to hospital early on Friday, the palace said without disclosing details of his condition.

The king, who has been on the throne for 29 years, is now on sick leave and Crown Prince Haakon will take over his duties temporarily, the palace said in a brief statement.

That is very worrying. I really hope he will be better soon. The NRF are a very small family of working royals anyway so that is an extra worry. Maybe M-L can divest herself of her shaman, get those guardian spirits off her shoulders and help her family for once by performing a few engagements.

I hope he is ok but he's not a young man and it seems like Haakon has to take over.  I dont think that people would be likely to want Martha Louise and the shaman.. so its really down to Haakon...

This isn't the first time that Haakon has been named regent while his father has been hospitalized, so the system is in place. Glad to read that it is not COVID 19 but I hope that the king makes a full recovery soon.

No but he is elderly and has been ill and its worrying.  And Haakon has no real support now, if he is permanent Regent for example Mette Marit isn't very well and isn't up to being a full time consortt

Queen Sonja is still in good health and able to carry out engagements. The King's very elderly older sister Princess Astrid has several patronages too. However, apart from these three very elderly people there certainly isn't anybody available but Haakon and Mette Marit when she feels well enough.

It's a good job that young Ingrid-Alexandra appears to be a very sensible and dutiful young girl as it appears that she might well begin to start carrying out formal Royal engagements when she is at university.

IMO it's a great shame that M-L is quite so flakey. Nobody minds a bit of eccentricity, but she could have been a massive help to her parents and brother at this time.

True but I think she's a hopeless case.  She's been barred form using her title in her business dealings, hasn't she and this Shaman is a big embarrasent

BREAKING: King Harald and Queen Sonja in quarantine after Royal Court employee tests positive for Covid ? Royal Central (https://royalcentral.co.uk/europe/norway/breaking-king-harald-and-queen-sonja-in-quarantine-after-royal-court-employee-tests-positive-for-covid-152721/)

QuoteKing Harald and Queen Sonja are in quarantine after a Royal Court employee tested positive for Covid-19. The Royal Court made the announcement on November 19th 2020.

King Harald has, as a result of this, gone into self-imposed home quarantine. Queen Sonja is also in quarantine as a result of close contact with the person in question. As of now both the King and Queen are well and have shown no signs of coronavirus. In addition to King Harald and Queen Sonja, 14 employees at the Royal Court are also now in quarantine.

As a result of the quarantine, His Majesty the King will lead the Council of State on November 20th 2020 by telephone from Bygd? Royal Estate. His Royal Highness the Crown Prince will take over His Father`s role and hold an audience with the President of Estonia as planned at the Royal Palace on the same day.

This is not the first time the King and Queen have been quarantined. When the King and Queen completed their state visit to Jordan earlier this year, the royals went into isolation after returning home in line with the then newly introduced infection control rules. However, this is the first time the royals have been quarantined as a result of close contact with an infected person. It is not yet known who at the Royal Court is infected.

This is the problem in a nutshell for staff and courtiers in a pandemic who not only mostly work closely together, but often have accommodation near to each other. One person falls victim and before you know it there are multiples. And of course it becomes even worse if the monarch and consort are very elderly and therefore extra vulnerable.

However I'm sure King Harald and Queen Sonja will be fine, and come through this with flying colours. It doesn't help the acute shortage of Norwegian royals available to go out and about for some engagements of course.

Norway has a very young monarchy in terms of years, but each generation of kings and their families have planted themselves firmly in their people's hearts. I think it's a very successful monarchy.

Also, hope that M-M is OK after her recent mishap on the slopes. Still, if she can still ski with a serious health condition things can't be too bad.

King Harald is on a planned sick leave until the end of January.

King Harald on sick leave until the end of January ? Royal Central (https://royalcentral.co.uk/europe/norway/king-harald-on-sick-leave-until-the-end-of-january-155193/)

QuoteHis Majesty King Harald of Norway will be on sick leave for the rest of the week until Sunday 31 January. His planned absence was announced by the Norwegian Royal Court on Thursday afternoon. His Royal Highness the Crown Prince Haakon is therefore Regent of Norway until Sunday and will therefore lead the Council of State tomorrow, Friday 29 January.

The press release from the Royal Court states: ?His Majesty the King is on sick leave until Sunday 31 January due to pain in his leg. His Royal Highness the Crown Prince Regent will lead the council of state on 29 January.?

The sick leave is due to pain in the leg. It is not stated if the king has been injured or if there are other causes for the pain. In 2018, he was reported sick as a result of pain in one foot. Guri Varpe, head of communications at the Palace, told the press that there is no further comment on the king?s sick leave. It is known that the King sustained an injury to one foot during his time in the military and that this is the reason why he is sometimes seen limping on one foot. In the autumn of 2020, King Harald began to walk with a cane.

King Harald has had several health challenges in the recent years, although there has rarely been a serious illness. At the end of September last year, he was admitted to Rikshospitalet due to heavy breathing. He was then on sick leave until October. The king then underwent heart surgery and has subsequently looked much better, something many have pointed out. The king was also hospitalized in early 2020, then due to dizziness. The King and Queen have recently been vaccinated against Covid-19 and will receive their second dose in early February.

The news of the King?s sick leave came just after 2 pm Norwegian time and is the leading story in Norway. The two largest TV channels have had extra news coverage of the case and several politicians have already wished the King a good recovery. According to the current plan, the King will resume his work on Monday next week, but there are currently no official events in the royal calendar that have been published.

Poor old boy. At his age in any normal profession Harald would be taking things really easy when in bad health. Surely Mette-Marit could undertake at least a few zoom calls per week to speak to different organisations and charities? I know she has a painful degenerative condition but even before that diagnosis she wasn't exactly the world's most willing worker. If she contacted some of the frontline workers to praise and encourage them all at the rate of three or four distance calls a week it would at least be something.

And flakey M-L, with or without her shaman, has been worse than useless at doing anything for anyone but herself during this pandemic apart from giving a few interviews about her personal situation. Yes, she's not officially on the Royal roster but if she at least volunteered sometimes at a hospital like Sofia of Sweden it would show some willingness to assist her country at a time when her parents are elderly and her brother is taking on more tasks.

King Harald to have surgery on his leg.

King Harald to undergo surgery on his leg ? Royal Central (https://royalcentral.co.uk/europe/norway/king-harald-to-undergo-surgery-on-his-leg-155231/)

QuoteKing Harald V of Norway will undergo surgery on his leg tomorrow.

The Norwegian Royal Court announced that the King has been admitted to hospital for a surgery tomorrow morning on an injured tendon on his right knee. They had previously announced that the King would be on sick leave until the end of January, and that his son Crown Prince Haakon had been appointed Regent of Norway until Sunday and that he would lead the Council of State today. His sick leave has been extended to 14 February to allow the King more time to recover from his surgery.

King Harald has had several health challenges recently, although there has rarely been a serious illness. At the end of September last year, he was admitted to Rikshospitalet due to heavy breathing. He was then on sick leave until October. The king underwent heart surgery and seemed to have visibly improved his health. The king was also hospitalized in early 2020, then due to dizziness. The King and Queen have recently been vaccinated against COVID-19 and will receive their second dose in early February.

It is unclear if the King injured his knee in an accident as no further announcements have been made.

King Harald and Queen Sonja receive second dose of coronavirus vaccine ? Royal Central (https://royalcentral.co.uk/europe/norway/king-harald-and-queen-sonja-receive-second-dose-of-coronavirus-vaccine-155496/)

QuoteKing Harald and Queen Sonja have received the second and final dose of coronavirus vaccine. The Royal Court presented the news in a short statement to the state TV channel NRK, which reported it on February 4th 2021.

The following statement was made to NRK: ?King Harald and Queen Sonja received their second dose of coronavirus vaccine this week and have thus been vaccinated. This also applies to the king?s sister, Princess Astrid?.

King Harald and Queen Sonja received the first dose of coronavirus vaccine on January 13th 2021. The King?s 88 year old sister, Princess Astrid, was also then vaccinated. There has been no news about Crown Princess Mette-Marit receiving the vaccine. Her Royal Highness is in a high risk group due to a lung disease. She has carried out a very limited range of engagements for the royal family since the outbreak of the coronavirus. It is expected that the Crown Princess will also take the vaccine soon.

The King will continue his sick leave until March.

King Harald?s sick leave is extended until March ? Royal Central (https://royalcentral.co.uk/europe/norway/king-haralds-sick-leave-is-extended-until-march-155827/)

QuoteKing Harald of Norway`s sick leave is extended until March, the Norwegian Royal Court has announced. The king is still in recovery after the operation for a torn tendon above the knee two weeks ago.

The Royal Court has stated that the doctors recommend further rehabilitation before the king resumes his constitutional duties. His sick leave is therefore extended until and including Sunday 14 March. The king is currently staying at Kongsseteren, where he is receiving physiotherapy treatment.

King Harald had a successful operation for a torn tendon over his right knee earlier this year. The sick leave is one of several the king has had in the last year and a half. In September last year, he was on sick leave for a period in connection with a heart operation and in January last year he was on sick leave due to dizziness. The previous autumn, a viral infection led to sick leave. King Harald and Queen Sonja received the second and final dose of coronavirus vaccine in early February.

The Royal Court also gave an update on King Harald?s recovery, saying: ?The King is in good recovery and continues treatment and training after the operation for torn tendons above the knee.?

I just saw the first episode tonight. IMHO it's a worthwhile program. The costuming, sets, and action are superb. You really can feel the tension and terror that the NRF and the nation felt as their country was invaded. The scenes in Norway are in Norwegian with English subtitles.

Princess Martha Louise of Norway confirms she plans to move to USA ? Royal Central (https://royalcentral.co.uk/europe/norway/princess-martha-louise-of-norway-confirms-she-plans-to-move-to-usa-157956/)

QuoteIn February this year Princess Martha Louiseof Norway said that she was considering moving to the United States. She then said that the reason is that her boyfriend, the American shaman Durek Verrett, feels badly treated and no longer wants to settle in Norway. This was discussed by the princess in an interview with TV2. Asked in the interview if it is relevant for her to move to the USA, she answers: ?Yes, it may be that we end up there eventually.?

Now the princess has confirmed in an interview with the Norwegian newspaper VG that she has decided to move. Princess Martha plans to move to the United States and take her three daughters with her. When she will move is not yet decided but the princess plans to keep her villa in Oslo and says she will visit Norway often even if she moves to the USA. The princess wants to settle in Los Angeles where her boyfriend has lived for many years.

The princess was asked if she was planning to move, to which she replied: ?Right now it is Covid and difficult to plan, but we plan to move with time. The children will of course join me. We will keep the home in Lommedalen anyway. We must have a home in Norway. We?ll still be here a lot. We can not leave beautiful Norway completely.?

For the second time since the coronavirus pandemic broke out, the princess and Durek Verrett have to spend many months without being together. The two have not seen each other since he left Norway just after Christmas. Princess Martha says: ?He is in Los Angeles, and now we do not know when we will see each other again.?

Maybe the distance will help her decide if this relationship is worth uprooting her children for - distance makes the heart grow fonder or not. Covid-19 is not going away soon, this couple will be tested.

Apparently Martha-Louise?s rather strange shaman boyfriend has been occupying himself by gushing about the couple?s love and the jewellery he gave M-L as a birthday present (and presumably paid for.)

The star crossed lovers are separated at the moment, according to M-L because Durek felt misunderstood in Norway (probably it was actually visa issues) and so he returned to the US, while she, rather surprisingly considering the earlier interviews she gave about intending to settle in the US, remains in her homeland.

Crown Prince Haakon speaks out about Princess Martha Louise?s title ? Royal Central (https://royalcentral.co.uk/europe/norway/crown-prince-haakon-speaks-out-about-princess-martha-louises-title-182561/)

QuoteThe Crown Prince of Norway has confirmed that there is an ongoing debate within his family about whether his sister, Princess Martha Louise, will keep her royal title.

The engagement of Princess Martha Louise and her American fianc? Durek Verrett has led to much debate in Norway. Earlier this month Norwegian press reported that several meetings had taken place at the Royal Palace in Oslo where Princess Martha Louise?s title was discussed. It follows criticism of Durek Verrett for several health claims including the advertisment of a medallion for sale which he claimed cured Covid.

On an engagement, the Crown Prince confirmed that talks were continuing about his sister?s royal status.

Yes, well it?s long been my opinion that both Princess M-L and her fianc? are away with the fairies on the subject of wellness. If people wish to be treated by shaman Durek that is absolutely their right. And it?s also the right of the NRF not to have theories about health that have no credible foundation associated with charities under their umbrella.

Archived article from the Sunday Times (UK) about Durek and Prss Martha-Louise and Norwegians reactions to the couple. He is disliked by many Norwegians and 17% are being turned off the NRF because of him. The shaman asserts that many in the country are prejudiced. King Harald  is left in an awkward position really, as Durek and M-L may well flounce off to the US claiming racism if he can?t persuade his daughter to renounce her royal title.

QuoteIn his 2019 book, Spirit Hacking, Verrett claims among other things that cancer in children is caused by unhappiness and chemotherapy is ineffective and only prescribed by doctors to make money. He has also written that casual sex attracts subterranean spirits who make an impression on the inside of women?s vaginas, which he sells exercises to ?clean out?.
Such views ? and his attempts to monetise them ? are the reasons for his unpopularity with Norwegians, Noren Isaksen believes. ?Yes, he does receive some racist comment on Instagram, but the main problem is his business activities, which the princess is also involved in.
?The huge majority in Norway thinks it?s hogwash and quackery. And you can?t really reconcile that with the role of the royal family who are supposed to be an uncontroversial unifying force for the nation.?

I can understand why his "business ventures" and claims are causing Norwegians to be concerned as some of his statements are truly bizarre IMHO and seem to be aimed at selling products to desperate people hoping for a miracle cure.  The King and the Crown Prince have a difficult task ahead of them.
It's not surprising that so many adult members of royal families opt for the military as a career choice because the world of commerce can be a murky one.

Princess Martha Louise steps back from royal duties

^Before being stripped, she basically quit.

Quote
The only daughter of King Harald V of Norway has given up royal duties amid ongoing controversy.

Princess Martha Louise will step back immediately from representing her family. In a brief statement, the Norwegian Court said ?Princess Martha Louise wishes to differentiate more clearly between her own activities and her relationship to the Royal House of Norway. The Princess has therefore decided, in consultation with His Majesty The King and other close family members, that she will not carry out official duties for the Royal House at the present time.

The princess will also give up all her patronages. The Norwegian Royal Court announced that organisations affected will be offered the patronage of another member of the Royal Family.

Taking to Instagram, Princess Martha Louise said she had made the decision to bring calm to the Royal Family. In recent months, there has been debate about whether she would keep her title as she and her fiance, Durek Verrett, attracted controversy.

Princess Martha Louise has chosen to step back from official royal duties. At the request of the King and Queen, she will retain the title of Princess. Upon their marriage, her fiance will not receive a title keeping to a tradition that was created for the King's sisters' husbands.

Princess Martha Louise steps back from royal duties amidst controversy ? Royal Central (https://royalcentral.co.uk/europe/norway/princess-martha-louise-steps-back-from-royal-duties-183251/)

The princess will also give up all her patronages. The Norwegian Royal Court announced that organisations affected will be offered the patronage of another member of the Royal Family.

Taking to Instagram, Princess Martha Louise said she had made the decision to bring ?calm? to the Royal Family. In recent months, there has been debate about whether she would keep her title as she and her fiance, Durek Verrett, attracted controversy.

Durek Verrett, a self proclaimed shaman, was sharply criticised after starting to sell a medallion which he said cured Covid. The couple have also run live broadcasts on social media called ?The Princess and the Shaman?. Now, the Royal Court says that the decision taken by the Princess to step back means that ?must not highlight affiliation with the Royal Family in their own social media channels?.

However, the princess will retain her title and she will remain as Chair of Princess Martha Louise?s Fund.

IMHO the Norwegian Royal House has made the only decision possible in this situation. The public and I imagine the Norwegian government  were becoming increasingly skeptical of some of the claims that Shaman Durek was making regarding some of his products ie-A charm that would cure or prevent COVID and were reluctant to see his business linked with the NRF. The affected patronages will now have the option of another member of the NRF as their Royal Patron-The King,  the Queen, the CP couple and possibly Princess Ingrid Alexandra. (I don't see Princess Astrid taking on any new patronages and Prince Sverre Magnus is too young.)

QuoteNow, the family says they have taken the decision for the princess to step back to ?? to safeguard the relationship of trust with the Norwegian people, while at the same time taking care of the family in the best possible way. The boundaries of what one can say and do, while representing the Royal Family, have been questioned and challenged. That?s why we see a need to clarify roles and the use of the princess title.?

And the family sharply criticised racist attacks on Durek Verrett, saying ? The racist attitudes Durek Verrett has been subjected to, especially on social media, we strongly oppose. It is a strength that the Royal Family reflects the ethnic diversity that exists in Norway. It can be difficult to understand how direct or indirect, conscious or unconscious racism can be experienced, for those of us who are not in it ourselves. Unfortunately, there are many in Norway today who experience discrimination and racism. We must work together to put an end to this.?

Princess Martha Louise is the elder of the two children of King Harald and Queen Sonja and is fourth in line to the throne of Norway.

And now for something completely different...Norway's version of "The Masked Singer." Maud Angelica Behn,  daughter of Princess Martha Louise and the late Ari Behn was unmasked in round two.

Which royal just got unmasked on ?The Masked Singer?? ? Royal Central (https://royalcentral.co.uk/europe/which-royal-just-got-unmasked-on-the-masked-singer-183235/)

QuoteIn singing round number two, they sang a song from a film they like a lot. After both rounds, it was the character ?Dandy? who had to take off their mask. And to everyone?s surprise it was Maud Angelica Behn, daughter of Princess M?rtha Louise and granddaughter of King Harald and Queen Sonja. Behn sang ?Oops I Did It? again by Britney Spears and ?Young And Beautiful? by Lana Del Ray.

After the exit from the TV show that airs on the Norwegian state television channel NRK, Behn said: ?When in life are you asked to be part of The Masked Singer, I thought it seemed very cool and it was nice to be invited. I wanted to challenge myself and dare to stand on a stage. Then I jumped straight into singing live. It helped a bit to be behind a mask, but I am very proud of myself for pulling it off.?

The 19-year-old says that it has not been easy to lie to friends and family, but that several of her friends recognized her voice in the end and began to become suspicious. Despite the fact that the princess?s daughter managed to keep the secret until now, there was one person who knew of her involvement all the time ? her mother, Princess M?rtha Louise.

I suspect that there have been some kind and tactful but firm things said to Princess Martha Louise by her parents and brother in the last few weeks. I?m glad that M-L has come to this decision, which imo is absolutely the right one. It won?t prevent Durek from making hay about being married to the daughter of a King in the future, but at least he can?t do any harm now to the family?s reputation with its charities.

Well, Queen Sonja, that?s put Durek nicely back in his box! Interesting too that apparently Haakon played a large part in getting this thing settled satisfactorily rather than his father taking charge. And I think it?s great that King Harald and Queen Sonja were prepared to hold a question and answer session with the Norwegian media about the situation. According to the Court Circular King Harald and Queen Sonja of Norway visited that King at Windsor this week. Isn?t Charles taking over Windsor Park Ranger duties as well as his myriad other things? I expect the King and Queen were on one of their pre Xmas shopping forays to London. The Scandi royals were fond of doing that. I believe Queen Daisy used to enjoy doing so. And Sofia of Greece used to come too, and stay with her brother.

I do believe that the late Queen and DoE used to host the late King Olav and later Harald and Sonja at Windsor and at Sandringham over the decades. Lovely to see that the tradition is carrying on. I believe that QMI (Daisy) likes to do some of her Christmas shopping in London each year. She's usually attending a Danish-UK event too with the Duchess of Gloucester.

The King announces that he's giving up competitive sailing.

King Harald of Norway announces his retirement (but not as King!) ? Royal Central (https://royalcentral.co.uk/europe/norway/king-harald-of-norway-announces-his-retirement-but-not-as-king-184628/)

QuoteKing Harald of Norway has announced his retirement. But fear not, His Majesty is not stepping away from the throne, but his lifelong hobby ? sailing.

His Majesty has made the decision to no longer participate in international competitions, something he has done all of his adult life.

The King, aged 85, has recently been discharged from hospital after receiving treatment for an infection.

Sailing has been a lifelong passion for King Harald, and no doubt, the decision to call an end to his competitive career will have been a difficult one.

Well into his eighties, the Norwegian monarch participated in international competitions.

In 2019, King Harald joined King Felipe of Spain in Mallorca for a sailing regatta ? one of his last international competitions before the pandemic hit.

In his younger years, His Majesty competed in three Olympic Games ? Tokyo 1964, Mexico City 1968, and the 1972 Olympics in Munich.

On each occasion, His Majesty failed to win a medal, however, he did have the honour of carrying the Norwegian flag at the Opening Ceremony in Tokyo.

Princess Martha Louise has postponed her marriage to her fiance Shaman Durek.

Princess M?rtha Louise postpones her wedding with Durek Verrett ? Royal Central (https://royalcentral.co.uk/europe/norway/princess-martha-louise-postpones-her-wedding-with-durek-verrett-185762/)

QuoteIt has been ten weeks since Princess M?rtha Louise left the Norwegian royal house abruptly, primarily due to her engagement to the controversial Shaman Durek. However, seven months after the engagement, no official wedding date has been announced. All inquiries about the wedding?s timing remain unanswered.

Now, Norwegian and Swedish press state that the wedding had been postponed indefinitely due to the ill health of Durek Verrett.

It appears that Durek?s health issues are the reason for the delay in his and Princess M?rtha Louise?s wedding, according to the Norwegian magazine ?Se og H?r? and the Swedish magazine ?Svensk Damtidning.? The publications specifically cite Durek?s severe kidney disease as the cause. Durek has been open about his kidney problems and discussed it in an episode of Roxie Nafousie?s podcast ?The Moments That Made Me,? describing how the disease affected him starting when he was 20 years old.

I believe one of Durek?s sisters already donated one of her kidneys. The problem with severe kidney disease like his now is not only finding a suitable donor for a transplant but all the health complications that can come (and are obviously happening in this case) when one kidney is trying to do the work of two and the remaining original kidney is failing. Durek is probably not working right now and his ongoing illness means great adjustments must be made, so it?s just as well that the wedding be postponed for a while.

Princess Martha Louise has given a controversial interview to Swedish television in which she blames the press for her ex-husband's suicide. She also states that she wishes to become a working royal again. The NRF declined to comment upon the interview.

Princess M?rtha Louise speaks of royal comeback and blames the press for ex-husband?s death ? Royal Central (https://royalcentral.co.uk/europe/norway/princess-martha-louise-speaks-of-royal-comeback-and-blames-the-press-for-ex-husbands-death-186410/)

QuotePrincess M?rtha Louise of Norway has given a controversial interview to Swedish television in which she talks about the death of her ex-husband, and plans for a royal comeback.

In a major interview with to show ?Min sanning? which translates as ?My truth?, the Princess opens up on hopes that she can make a ?comeback? and represent the royal house again. In November last year, it was announced that M?rtha Louise would no longer represent The Royal Family after several of the organisations she was a patron of ended their cooperation.

At the time, this was reported to have occurred because of controversial views held by the princess and her fianc?, Durek Verrett. Among other things, Verrett has received a lot of attention for a medallion he is selling, which he claims helped him recover from coronavirus. In the interview, Princess M?rtha Louise says that she believes that her fianc??s statements were being taken out of context.

She answers on questions regarding a comeback: ?Yes, if I get the opportunity, I will say yes to it.?

The princess believes that she had to quit, not because of anything she herself has done, but because of things her fianc? Durek Verrett has said, or because of the way he is perceived. She questioned in the interview whether the conclusion would have been reached if she was a man. Princess M?rtha Louise also says that Verrett has been met with racism, and that she now sees Norway in a totally new way.

The Princess said: ?It feels a bit difficult at a time when women?s rights are so strong, and we women are on the ?equal line?, as it were, as men. But do we really do that? Would it have been the same if I had been a man? I don?t think so.?

Princess M?rtha Louise has reacted several times to the press and what she believes is a hunt for headlines and clicks. Princess M?rtha Louise further states: ? I am probably the one in Norway who has received the most criticism of all, I think?.

Princess M?rtha Louise?s ex husband, writer and artist Ari Behn, took his own life on Christmas Day 2019.

Mr Behn was married to the Princess from 2002 to 2017, with Princess M?rtha Louise saying in the SVT program that the person who she chooses to be in a relationship with always gets criticised.

She claims that the press attention harmed Behn, who received praise for his debut book in 1999, but that he ?never again received good criticism? of either books or art when he was married to her.

On the question whether the press is responsible for his death, the Princess said: ?They said so themselves. His mental health depended a lot on him getting criticism in the media.

?But I am not saying it was anyone?s fault. It is always how you handle criticism.  The press took self-criticism after he died, that they were perhaps a little harsh towards him, and that he only received criticism and was actually a very nice person. They never said that when he was with me. Then he was just a peacock and arrogant for them.?

Norwegian press has been in contact with the Princess?s manager, Carina Scheele Carlsen, who states that she does not wish to comment on the matter beyond the TV interview. The communications manager at the Norwegian Royal Court states that the Royal Family does not want to comment on the interview.

As expected her interview claims were met with heavy criticism.

Princess M?rtha Louise?s accusations towards the Norwegian press meet heavy criticism ? Royal Central (https://royalcentral.co.uk/europe/norway/princess-martha-louises-accusations-towards-the-norwegian-press-meet-heavy-criticism-186413/)

QuotePrincess M?rtha Louise of Norway is once again at the centre of attention following on from a controversial interview with Swedish television over the weekend. The claim that received the most attention is the Princess? statement that the Norwegian press had acknowledged that they were complicit in the reasons why her ex-husband took his own life.

When asked whether the media was responsible for Ari Behn?s death in 2019, the Princess said: ?They said so themselves.

In response to the comments, the Norwegian press have United to release a statement criticising the comments made by the Princess.

Reidun Kjelling Nyb?, secretary general of the Norwegian Editors? Association, strongly disagrees with what was said in the STV interview.

She says: ?The way I interpret her, she largely blames the Norwegian media for Ari Behn taking his own life. It is deeply shocking, very unfair and completely undocumented. That is not true at all.?Nyb? continues: ?I note that the Princess mixes up critical statements from the media?s sources and the media themselves, and that she also makes it sound as if it is the media?s fault that she renounced her official duties last autumn. It is very serious and very startling that she chooses to shift all the blame onto the media in this way.?

The editor of the Norwegian republican newspaper Dagbladet has chosen to take his response even further.

He writes: ?M?rtha Louise is of course entitled to have her opinion of life in a privileged bubble that few of us are close to, and the press must listen to criticism from someone who has been in the media?s spotlight since she was born. It has undoubtedly affected someone who describes herself as hypersensitive. But even a princess can?t make up fairy tales and present them as alternative facts.?

Neither Princess  M?rtha Louise`s manager, the Norwegian Royal Court or the family of Ari Behn was wanted to comment since the interview was published.

And you ? you who are sitting here today, have largely contributed to this. For this, we are all very grateful to you.?

King Harald and Crown Prince Haakon participate in large NATO exercise ? Royal Central (https://royalcentral.co.uk/europe/norway/king-harald-and-crown-prince-haakon-participate-in-large-nato-exercise-187251/)

QuoteKing Harald and Crown Prince Haakon of Norway participated in NATO exercises consisting of more than 20,000 NATO soldiers in Norway for an extensive winter exercise.

The King and Crown Prince received a briefing on the winter exercises in the north, and for the first time, they received the information in two different places.

Crown Prince Haakon received a briefing about the exercise from the ?Joint Viking? management at Bardufoss military airport. At the same time, King Harald received the same information from the defence staff at Akershus Fortress in Oslo. The pair receiving the same briefing at two locations has never been done before.

The Royal Court also confirmed another historic first, which was the Norwegian monarch taking part in a military exercise via video; the King received a briefing from the Chief of Defence via a link from the Sitsen military camp.

The aim of the meeting was for the Royal Family to be informed about the exercises taking place with NATO. It aligns with how the King, as the Supreme Commander and General of the Armed Forces, must be notified in the event of a war.

The half an hour exercise must be as similar as possible to a real war situation. The leader of the ?Joint Viking? exercise, Lieutenant General Yngve Odlo, led the meeting between the defence leadership and the Royal House.

At the meeting, Crown Prince Haakon was updated about the Norwegian-led NATO exercises. The ?Joint Viking? land exercise was not the only training; the British-led exercise ?Joint Warrior? also took place.

The maritime exercises meant that the Navy, Army and Air Defence worked together in northern Norway, providing an excellent opportunity for the various defence branches to train together. A total of 20,000 soldiers from eight allied NATO countries are involved.

Durek Verrett and Princess M?rtha Louise to move permanently to Norway ? Royal Central (https://royalcentral.co.uk/europe/norway/durek-verrett-and-princess-martha-louise-to-move-permanently-to-norway-188167/)

QuoteDurek Verrett, fiance of Princess M?rtha Louise, has revealed that he has plans to move permanently to Norway.

Durek Verrett recently spoke to Norwegian press in connection with the release of his new song together with the boy band ?The Jacketeers?. He revealed that he already lives half the time in Norway and half in Los Angeles, but he wants to move all the way to Norway to be with his family.

He went on to say that he and Princess M?rtha Louise have always agreed that the well-being of her three daughters is the most important thing. Their careers are taking off in Norway, so it doesn?t make sense to take them to Los Angeles. He would rather be where it is best for the girls and M?rtha. The couple has yet to set a date for the wedding, but their focus is on the children at the moment.

Princess Martha Louise will be participating in a reality show. Prinsesse M?rtha Louise, Jaget | M?rtha Louise gj?r reality-debut: ? Hadde flere nerv?se sammenbrudd (https://www.nettavisen.no/livsstil/m-rtha-louise-gjor-reality-debut-hadde-flere-nervose-sammenbrudd/s/5-95-1296046)

QuoteWednesday afternoon, Discovery presented its programme menu that will be on TV in the coming months, and the new show "Jaget" is one of the channel's ventures. For the first season, M?rtha Louise makes a surprising debut as a reality show contestant.

In "Jaget", eight celebrities will be hunted down by a team of professional investigators in true "cops and robbers" style. The participants must try to be on the run for ten days, without being caught and arrested.

M?rtha Louise tells Nettavisen that the reality debut has been emotional:
- It was nerve-wracking. I had several nervous breakdowns, says M?rtha Louise.

She adds that she had a lot of fun during the TV recording, and does not hide that she got carried away by the game, which at times was a psychological game.

- I got a little paranoid at times, admits M?rtha Louise.
On the princess's team was Tinashe Williamson (38), and M?rtha Louise says that she found a lot of comfort in her teammate.

Are the royal family going to watch "Jaget"?
- I have no idea. You have to ask them about that, replies the princess.

I suppose M-L is doing this reality show thing in order to bring some money into the coffers. I don?t think Durek has been doing too much work in the last few months as he has apparently been quite ill. Kidney trouble certainly isn?t something you can shake off, and he?s lost weight.

All the same, M-L could have been so much more helpful to her birth family than she has been. Everybody has just got to hope that Queen Sonja?s health remains reasonable into her 90s and that M-M?s health improves a little.
It would be pretty dreadful if, in another few years CP Haakon is left to shoulder it all alone while Prss I-A tries to complete her tertiary education and some military training in order to be able to take over when she needs to as C Prss. I just can?t see any scenario myself in which her brother S-M won?t be required to undertake at least a few royal engagements per year until she has children old enough to be left. And let?s hope she finds and marries a Prince Daniel.

@Curryong-I agree that scenario would be dreadful but it does seem quite possibly the future for the NRF due to the King and Queen's age, M-M's poor health and I-A's age.

In it's relatively short history, this is a royal house that has seen two monarchs become widowers during their reigns. Maud was 68 at the time of her death and Martha was 53.

King Harald has been transported back in Oslo now. He is a very determined old man obviously but it's a pity that the Queen and his advisors didn't manage to dissuade him from travelling to Malaysia at his age and fragile state of health. He is to be hospitalised in Oslo of course and Princess I-A has been given leave from her military training to return to the capital to rejoin her parents and see her grandfather.

Most of the close family members seem to have visited the King in hospital since he was flown back home, including Princesses Ingrid Alexandra and Martha Louise (though without her shaman!) King Harald seems to have a really strong constitution in spite of many health issues over the past decade, so a new pacemaker shouldn't present any problem. However I still hope that he reconsiders going on any far away foreign trips for the foreseeable future. Send CP Haakon instead for all the official ones and maybe Britain or France for holidays.

And that a risk assessment was carried out before the trip, where, among other things, the health services in the area were assessed.

QuoteKing Harald of Norway is still listed on the Palace's online schedule as returning to official engagement on Monday. I wouldn't be surprised if that is not pushed out given that he is still expected to stay in the hospital a few more days and then will probably require some rest at home.

I believe the doctors also stated in their Press Conference at the hospital that King Harald had contracted an infection (unknown in origin) that may have affected his heart. That is at least part of the reason imo as to why they were so fulsome about the efficiency of the Malaysian doctors, as of course, any sort of an infection at the King's age is dangerous.

I'm very fond of Malaysia, one of my favourite hospital destinations. It's a country with First World infrastructures in many ways and loads of English speakers because of its past history. I'm so glad that they were able to assist the monarch who is high up in the list of my favourite Heads of State, especially now Queen Daisy has retired.

Re Durek's family wealth —- is that what Prss M-L knows from independent sources, ie family members, childhood friends etc, or from her shaman fiancé's own lips? Because if it's just his word....?

M-L and Durek are so strange and eccentric as a couple it's hard to know who told   her what and when. Though you would think that his mother would know the financial circumstances of her own son's childhood.
