Romania's Royal Family continues to make the ongoing refugee crisis a priority.

Princess Maria of Romania visits Ukrainian border   ? Royal Central

Princess Maria of Romania has visited the Isaccea border control station in Tulcea County near Ukraine along with representatives of the Children in Difficulty Foundation to see what is being done to help refugees as they flee the wartorn country.

Over the past few weeks, the Romanian Royal Family has contributed greatly to helping Ukrainian refugees in Romania. Hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian refugees have found their way to Romania since the war began as the countries share a border.

The Children in Distress Foundation began working in Romania in 1990 as a branch of the Children in Distress Foundation in Great Britain. Princess Maria is the patron of the Romanian branch.

Representatives of local authorities and the Inspectorate for Emergency Situations welcomed Princess Maria before she visited the customs tents and met those helping Ukrainian refugees. She also spoke to volunteers and thanked them for their work during such a difficult time in Europe.

Princess Maria of Romania was born in 1964 in Copenhagen, Denmark as the fifth and youngest daughter of King Michael I and Queen Anne of Romania. She has lived in Romania since 2015 and carried out public duties on behalf of the defunct monarchy.

Princess Maria?s older sister, Her Majesty Margareta, Custodian of the Crown of Romania, is the leader of the Romanian Red Cross. As the crisis in Ukraine has unfolded, she has worked with the Red Cross in Romania to assist those in neighbouring Ukraine.

Romania has been contributing a significant amount of humanitarian aid to Ukrainians and Ukraine.

Lovely and not surprising he has been named for Nicolas' grandfather who he was extremely close to growing up.

The name is even more symbolic and not simply being born on Good Friday. On Easter 1992 King Michael was permitted to return home after 45 years in exile to celebrate Easter with his people (his previous attempt he had been stopped by police and made to leave). While he wouldn't return to live in Romania until 1997 when his citizenship was restored, it was a historic moment.

Good Friday in 1992 was April 17th, so 2 days early, but little Michael makes his entrance almost exactly 30 years to the date his great-grandfather got to come home (even if just holiday that time).

On May 10, a national holiday, Her Majesty Margareta of Romania and HRH Prince Radu will travel by Royal Train to the cities of Ploiesti, Buzau, Braila and Galati, to celebrate Royal Day and Romania's Independence Day together with local communities.

On the Centenary of King Ferdinand of Romania's Coronation in Alba Iulia, a recent creation of Vadim Cretu entered the Royal Collection of Contemporary Art. The work is a portrait in oil of the Sovereign, in the latter part of his life.
