QuoteKate is off to a flying start as new patron of the Air Cadets

The Duchess of Cambridge was as radiant as ever on Sunday as she stepped out to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Air Cadets. It was a particularly memorable event for Kate, as it marked her first event with the organisation since she took over the patronage from Prince Philip in December, assuming the role of Honorary Air Commandant.

To mark the special occasion, the 33-year-old an elegant pale blue Alexander McQueen coat, accessorising with a chic black Lock & Co hat, navy Rupert Sanderson heels, and wearing her glossy brunette locks down. In a sartorial nod to her new role, Kate completed her look with an Air Cadets Dacre brooch.

It's not the first time that Kate has been spotted in the coat, custom-made for her by the British fashion house; she chose the chic ensemble for a visit during her royal tour of New Zealand with Prince William in 2014.

Gillian Molyneux, whose husband was killed on board HMS Astute in Southampton in 2011, laid a wreath on behalf of the submariners? widows.

This ceremony this year had added poignancy because of it being 100 years since the end of the First World War, she said.

?I think remembrance is not just about remembering those who lost their lives, but also remembering those who are still serving,? she added.

?It is definitely a time to say thank you.?

The annual ceremony, which is held every year a week before Remembrance Sunday, was first held in 1923 after the National Submarine Memorial was unveiled on the nearby Victoria Embankment in 1922.

I believe that services and memorials like this one might be one of the few places and opportunities the submariners' families can honor them as it is nearly impossible to retrieve the deceased if the submarine goes down in very deep water.

I like the picture of Catherine with the mascot dog. She does not seem the least bit scared of him. That is a good thing because some dogs have been known to bite.

Princess Cassandra

It's one of my favorite events, ever since the DOC got the heel of her shoe stuck in the pavement and was such a good sport about it!  :blowkiss:

I am also an admirer of large dogs, and that hound is gorgeous.

Excellent coverage! Lots of photos and a video. I think this is the best of her St. Patrick's day outfits.
