How did the Clock House of Kensington Palace receive its name?

^ I don't really know why the Clock House got its name unless it was the part of the original archway bearing a clock that allowed entry to that particular courtyard in Kensington Palace. KP has been altered immeasurably over the centuries.

I do know that it is spacious, reputedly haunted, and that Princess Michael had her eye on it at one point, but wasn't allowed as apparently it was earmarked for Andrew and his bride (Andrew was single then) who ultimately preferred another home. It really has been sectioned off into apartments over the years. Princess Marina (of Kent) was one resident of the Clock House, the Athlones another. Part of it was hived away to make up rooms for the Cambridges' apartment.
