Title: State Visits and Dinners (2011 to present)
Post by: cinrit on October 10, 2014, 12:53:00 PM
QuoteThe Duchess of Cambridge is set to reach another landmark in her royal career by taking a formal part in a State visit for the first time later this month.

Kate, who is pregnant with her second child and about to enter her sixth week of suffering acute morning sickness - hyperemesis gravidarum - is due to join Prince William to welcome President Tony Tan Keng Yam of Singapore and his wife Mary Chee Bee Kiang to London on October 21 at the start of a four-day State visit to Britain.

The second in line to the throne and his wife will be expected to greet the visiting couple at the Royal Garden Hotel in Kensington and then travel with them by car to Horse Guards Parade to make their first appearance at a ceremonial welcome for a visiting head of state.

William took part in a State visit by South Korea's President Park Geun-hye to Britain last year when he joined her at a ground-breaking ceremony for a Korean War memorial in London.  He and Kate also met US President Barack Obama informally for a cup of tea at Buckingham Palace during his State visit to Britain with his wife Michelle in 2011.

"I think it would be fair to say that this is the first time the Duchess has played a formal part in a State Visit programme," a Kensington Palace spokesman said.

Thank you for sharing. I wasn't sure if the carriage rides were still standard part of a state visit, but I'm glad to see that this tradition is still used.

So, maybe a sign of the tiaras promised by the rumours of the "regal makeover" ?

Richard Palmer confirmed that Kate will not be at the state banquet part of the visit, therefore no tiara this time.  But I would think having her and Will begin to take part in official visits is. Sign of things to come, so maybe more tiaras are in our future.

IMO it appears that the major tiara events are becoming fewer and fewer in the royal world.

There are photos floating around, taken a few days ago apparently, showing William and Kate leaving the consulting rooms of Dr Alan Farthing in Harley St. She's probably there for her twelve week scan and check-up. They are quite grainy, so not Tanna I think!

True but they are still there, especially for State banquets. Do you remember the only time Kate put on a tiara for a private reception, for the Foreign Missions ?

QuoteDuchess of Cambridge Is All Smiles Despite Looking a Little Under the Weather in First Public Appearance Since Announcing Her Second Pregnancy

The Duchess of Cambridge today made her first public appearance since announcing she is pregnant with her second child.  She rode in a carriage procession to Buckingham Palace as part of the state visit by the president of Singapore.

Kate, who is around 13 weeks pregnant with her second child and has been suffering with severe morning sickness, was clearly well enough to play a greater part in the official welcome for Tony Tan Keng Yam than initially announced.

Kate wore a grey Alexander McQueen coat dress, one of her favourite designers and the one she wore to marry William, which she accessorised with a Jane Taylor hat - another firm favourite of the royal.

I expect that they wanted to wait until they were confident Kate would be able to handle a public engagement before sending her out to one (they certainly didn't want her puking in the middle of it, or relapsing as a result of trying too soon), and as a result of that caution she was at the "I'm feeling pretty okay, I can handle two things today" stage when she made her first appearance rather than "hopefully I'm good enough to just get through this one thing, but I definitely couldn't handle anything else today."

In other words, she might well have been able to do an engagement last week, but they didn't know for sure and didn't want to push it.  Instead of sending her out for one as soon as they thought she could probably handle it, they gave her some extra time and now she's well enough to do two.

QuoteKate, Duchess of Cambridge: First Picture Since Pregnancy Announced

The Duchess of Cambridge said she was glad to "get out of the house" as she carried out her first official engagement since announcing that she is expecting her second child.

The Duchess, commonly known as Kate Middleton, greeted Tony Tan Keng Yam, the president of Singapore, as he began a state visit to Britain.  She wore a grey Alexander McQueen coat and matching coloured hat by Jane Taylor for the occasion, although there was little sign of her baby bump.

The Duchess, who is just over 12 weeks pregnant with her second child, is suffering from a rare form of morning sickness which has forced her to miss a string of engagements since the summer.

However, her condition had improved sufficiently to allow her to play a role in President Tan's state visit on Tuesday.

I hear that Kate is to attend the State banquet at Buckingham Palace for the president of China, Xi Jinping, with Prince William later this month.
'Catherine will be there,' says a royal source.

Wow! While I'm aware of the issues that Charles has had with the Chinese leadership, I am very surprised that he and Camilla will not be present. I wonder if William and Kate will also be on hand for the arrival events in lieu of Charles and Camilla? Typically the heir-to-the-throne will be on hand if there is an airport greeting.

As for tiara guessing I'll go with the Cartier Halo or the Lotus tiara.

@TLLK - The Daily Mail claims Prince Charles and Duchess of Cornwall will not be at the evening festivities, but will participate in events earlier in the day.

QuotePrince Charles, the Mail understands, does not intend to attend the evening's festivities because of his strong personal opposition to the country's treatment of Tibet – although final negotiations over the issue were due to take place last night.

QuoteHowever he and his wife will be attending the official welcome at Horse Guards Parade and are expected to attend the lunch thrown by the Queen afterwards at Buckingham Palace, along with Prince Philip (who once memorably told students during a 1986 tour of China that they would become 'slitty-eyed') as well as the Cambridges.

Yes, I agree. The gown is a lovely colour and those are exquisite bracelets. However, the cut of the dress at the top and maybe the length of sleeves don't flatter Kate's rather masculine shoulders. She does look nervous and a bit blank in some photos but that's understandable. I do like that she wore an updo. No family Order yet!

Good that they allowed several photos!

QuoteKate shines at her first ever state banquet

Since marrying her Prince Charming four years ago, we've only seen Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge with a tiara twice — at the wedding and at a diplomatic reception in 2013. But last night, the Duchess finally had a tiara moment again when she and Prince William joined Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip for the grand state banquet on the occasion of the visit from the President of China, Xi Jinping.

For the state banquet, the Duchess of Cambridge donned some familiar bling — the beautiful and simple Lotus Flower tiara, which she also wore at the diplomatic dinner almost two years ago. But this time, we got a proper look of the tiara — and it was just as gorgeous as we had hoped for.

The Duchess styled the tiara, which was made for the Queen Mother in the 1920s, with a gorgeous up-do. Perhaps in honour of the Chinese guests, Catherine donned a fabulous bright red gown with glittering beads sown onto the lace top and a tulle skirt by Jenny Packham.

The Cambridges did well. A precursor of how it will look when William is heir apparent.

Kate is sticking to the themed colors, today also, the Chinese plum is for them the most important symbol. She did her homework.
