The Australian government has revealed its official gift in honour of the King?s coronation ? a donation to help save the endangered western ground parrot (WGP).
Also known as the ?Kyloring? by the Noongar people, there are thought to be less than 150 WGPs left - making it one of the world?s rarest bird species.

A national contribution of $10,000 will be made on behalf of the Australian people to Friends of the Western Ground Parrot (FWGP), a charity fighting to save the parrot.

Releasing a statement on Wednesday, the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet said the gesture joined the ?emerging tradition? of marking royal occasions by contributing to conservation efforts.

I'm so pleased that the tradition of the Commonwealth nations gifting donations to their domestic charities in honor of the occasion is continuing.   I believe this practice  started fairly recently with royal weddings and jubilees.

In an about face, the peers who own Coronation robes have now been told that they can choose to wear them to the service. Peers to wear Coronation robes in last minute Palace U-turn

QuotePeers to wear coronation robes in last minute Palace U-turn

Members of House of Lords expressed horror at prospect of attending Westminster Abbey in nothing more distinguished than a business suit

However, hereditary peers and sitting members of the House of Lords who received an invitation to the Coronation are understood to have been informed in the last 48 hours that they can now wear coronation robes should they wish.

A royal source confirmed there had been a change of heart. One of the original concerns was that not everyone would have coronation robes, they said.

However, it became apparent that ?some were reasonably keen? and so it was decided that if they wanted to, they could. Coronets will not be worn.

One source claimed the King had ?over-ruled? the Earl Marshal on the decision, perhaps after being lobbied by unhappy acquaintances. However, Buckingham Palace declined to comment.

The decision follows criticism that the Coronation will be a ?cut price?, scaled back affair with too much focus on the cost of living crisis.

^Nothing to get too worked up over, personally, but I guess it?s a coronation, so might as well wear the coronation robes lol

Dame Mary Berry hosts a Coronation Big Lunch cooking show.

The One Show launches The Coronation Dish with Dame Mary Berry - Media Centre

Thank you so much TLLK for sharing that about Dame Mary Berry for I just love her shows and the way she cooks......I watch all her shows and even the reruns and have made 2 of her recipes.  So will be glued to her show for sure as I am going to be up all night watching the Coronation.

Curryong

The Coronation cooking contest with Dame Mary Berry was launched in April I think, to find a suitable dish for Coronation street parties. The chicken pie won. You would think that viewers would have chosen something without pastry, considering the official Coronation quiche is also a pastry filler. However I don?t think the quiche had been announced at the time this cookery contest was launched.

For something completely different. as BP has been in the spotlight in the last 24 hours, below is some good info about Buckingham Palace. Also, the first time there was an appearance on the Palace balcony was in 1850 when Queen Victoria stepped onto it. The Great (International) Exhibition (with which Prince Albert had been involved from the beginning) had proved a great runaway success.

TLLK

@Curryong-It's hard for me  to imagine Buckingham Palace in its original form without its famous balcony considering how many photographs have been taken there for over a century. But at one point in time, it was a smaller and less grand palace than the one that we know today.

Queen Camilla's grandson breaks his arm and will have to carry out Coronation duties in a sling | Daily Mail Online

QuoteTheir path to the throne can scarcely be described as conventional ? and has certainly been far from untroubled. So I trust that King Charles and Queen Camilla won?t discern an ill omen in the accident that has befallen one of Camilla?s Pages of Honour ? an accident which, I can reveal, will force him to carry out his duties one-handed at the Coronation on Saturday.

The lad in question is Gus Lopes, 13-year-old son of Camilla?s daughter, Laura, and her husband, Harry Lopes. Abetted by his twin brother, Louis, and their cousin, Freddy Parker Bowles, 13, Gus will be responsible for holding aloft his grandmother?s Coronation robes ? likely to weigh as much as 15lbs, as Queen Elizabeth?s did in 1953 ? as she progresses down the aisle at Westminster Abbey.

Gus will have to manage this without the use of his right arm, which will be in a sling ? just as it was earlier this week when he and Louis were at Buckingham Palace for rehearsals.

?Gus broke his arm in a bike accident while on holiday,? a family friend tells me. ?The cast has been removed, but he must have it in a sling on the big day.?

Yes, Buckingham House was of course a comfortable family home for Queen Charlotte, wife to George III. She was possibly the last royal to actually love the place. George IV had other ideas and in his usual grandiose way wanted a huge palace built at a cost of many thousands, but didn?t really live there during his reign. Typical!

Queen Victoria had BP extended yet again and below is an illustration of herself and presumably family greeting soldiers returning from the Crimean War in the 1850s.

Who built Buckingham Palace?

A warrant has been issued to formally acknowledge that Camilla will be known as "Queen Camilla" after the Coronation.

A Royal Warrant is issued to drop ?Consort? from Queen Camilla?s title ? Royal Central

QuoteIt appeared in a most unexpected place but there is now further confirmation that, after the Coronation, the word ?consort? will disappear from Queen Camilla?s title.

Since the accession of King Charles, on September 8th 2022, Her Majesty has been referred to as ?the Queen Consort? in official announcements. With just days to go until the Coronation, official guidance for prayers for the Royal Family shows this will soon be a thing of the past.

Lambeth Palace published a notice that, on May 3rd 2023, King Charles issued a Royal Warrant stating that from Coronation Day itself, Her Majesty should be named as Queen Camilla in prayers said for or referring to the Royal Family. For the last eight months, all references have been to ?Camilla, the Queen Consort?.

The Warrant states that ?with effect from 6 May 2023, in every prayer for the Royal Family contained in any form of service authorised for use in the Church of England, instead of the words ?Camilla, the Queen Consort?, the words ?Queen Camilla? should be inserted.

wannable

I think it has been better worded by royal watcher Royal Circular.

Royal Circular
@Royal_Circular

NEW: The King has directed by Royal Warrant that prayers for or referring to members of The Royal Family be altered.

From 6th May, every prayer for The Royal Family will replace the words 'Camilla the Queen Consort' with the words 'Queen Camilla.'
