It would have been quite a complex, well thought-out plan if it were a conspiracy. Personally, I think it was an accident due to a perfect storm of neglect. What a tragedy.

I suppose the conspiracy theories about her manner of death will never stop, which is sad. I watched a clip of the TV talk show Lorraine today and they had a retired female Met police inspector on the show who went through all the facets of the official investigation into Diana?s death and how hard the team worked, but  she stated that even now some people will never believe that there wasn?t interference by various authorities on the night.

I?m just sad she?s gone really. There will never be anyone like her again.

I wonder if there are any more new info about Diana to come out.......so many books, videos, movies and articles about her that her life even in death will never be peaceful or the same again.  I am sure Harry will have this celebration of his mother all over the world as he needs to satisfy his corporate contracts with new info so that they keep giving him money.  14 bathrooms takes lots of money to keep clean I bet....lol

Sun newspaper said
QuoteTHE 25th anniversary of Princess Diana's passing is set to take place next week, and reports suggest her sons will commemorate the day apart.

Princess Diana died on August 31, 1997, in a tragic car crash that killed the royal, her boyfriend and their driver.

Prince William and Prince Harry were just 15 and 12 respectively at the time.

According to reports in the Telegraph, the royal brothers will spend the day apart, commemorating their mother's passing with their own families.

This differs from last year, when the Dukes put their feud to bed to unveil a statue of Lady Di.

Last week, the Duke of Sussex revealed how he plans to spend the day.

"I want it to be a day filled with memories of her incredible work and love for the way she did it," he said.

" I want it to be a day to share the spirit of my mum with my family, with my children, who I wish could have met her. Every day, I hope to do her proud."

QuoteHow Prince Harry struggled after Diana's passing

Next week will mark the 25th anniversary of Princess Diana?s death and Brits everywhere are thinking about the late royal.

Prince Harry has previously opened up about how he coped with his mother?s death at such a young age.

The Duke admitted: ?I was willing to drink, I was willing to take drugs, I was willing to try and do the things that made me feel less like I was feeling.

?But I slowly became aware that, okay, I wasn?t drinking Monday to Friday, but I would probably drink a week?s worth in one day on a Friday or a Saturday night.

?And I would find myself drinking, not because I was enjoying it but because I was trying to mask something.?

QuotePrince Harry pays tribute to Lady Di ahead of 25th anniversary

As we approach the 25th anniversary of Princess Diana?s passing, her son Prince Harry has paid tribute to the much-adored royal.

Speaking at the Sentebale Polo Cup in Aspen, Colorado, following his stunning victory, the Duke had this to say.

?Next week is the 25th anniversary of my mother?s death, and she most certainly will never be forgotten.

?I want it to be a day filled with memories of her incredible work and love for the way she did it.

?I want it to be a day to share the spirit of my mum with my family, with my children, who I wish could have met her.

?Every day, I hope to do her proud.?

Harry went on to say that he plans to spend the anniversary with his family.

QuoteRoyal Family has no plans for Princess Diana?s anniversary

Next week will mark the 25th anniversary of Princess Diana?s passing.

However, the Firm reportedly has no plans to commemorate the event.

Diana?s two children, Princes William and Harry, will likely make public statements remembering their mother, however.

Earlier this week, Harry had this to say regarding his mother?s passing: ?Next week is the 25th anniversary of my mother?s death, and she most certainly will never be forgotten.

?I want it to be a day filled with memories of her incredible work and love for the way she did it.

?I want it to be a day to share the spirit of my mum with my family, with my children, who I wish could have met her.

?Every day, I hope to do her proud.?

QuotePrince William and Harry 'will NOT mark 25th anniversary of Diana's death together'

Prince William and Prince Harry will not be marking the 25th anniversary of Diana's death together according to reports.

Last summer the pair unveiled a statue of their mother in the Sunken Garden at Kensington Palace.

According to the Telegraph, The Duke of Cambridge and Duke of Sussex will mark the anniversary "privately and separately, having agreed to draw a line under their public commemorations."

She also stated, ?Speaking to the Daily Beast, she added that Diana would also have been 'thrilled' by the Duke meeting his wife who has made 'her son was happy'.

'She would have been delighted, supportive and thrilled someone of mixed race was joining the royal family because Diana was so inclusive,' she added.? End quote.

And how does Tina (who wasn?t such a great friend of Diana?s as SHE has intimated over the years) know what Diana would think of Meghan, or for that matter, Kate? Has she been up to heaven to interview her, lol? She?s a journalist and writer who has joined the general disapproval and dislike of Meghan singing from the same hymn sheet as so many other ?royal experts? and commentators. Nobody knows what Diana would have thought of anyone in 2022 as, believe it or not, she?s been dead for 25 years!

And my own opinion, for what it?s worth, is that Diana would have admired and liked many of Meghan?s and Kate?s characteristics and deprecated and disliked others. She wouldn?t have been an uncritical mother in law, I believe.

And IMO, and unlike Tina Brown I don?t regard it as something to be repeated to journalists, I think she would have been saddened beyond measure by Harry and Meghan?s departure to the US had she been alive, but would have understood the reasons. On the other hand the Sussexes may well have felt less isolated and alone in the early years of their marriage if Diana had still been here.

You?re right about that

If Diana was here today from heaven and she not happy with Harry and Meghan insult Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Charles and Duke of Cambridge not necessarily for that if Diana was here today from heaven and Diana will have seriously talk with Harry!! If Diana was here today from heaven and Diana knew Harry?s behavior not allowed and unacceptable behavior get red alert!!🚨

Diana been dear friend of Tina Brown and trust author books after Diana?s death kept positive not negative unlike Sussex but Diana knew it Harry?s bombshell book upcoming but Diana forbidden harry to release the book and Duke of Cambridge is right!! If Diana was here today from heaven and Diana will ignore Harry?s bombshell books same Duke of Cambridge and Prince Charles examples

If Diana was here today from heaven Diana will trust Duchess of Cambridge not Meghan!! Diana will wonderful mother in law and grandmother Kate have follow Diana?s examples this month

Well, I?m glad that you know what a dead woman would know and say, and it would all be anti-Harry and Meghan and all pro William and Kate. Wouldn?t be any personal opinion of those four creeping in there, would it, lol!

I pretty well completely disagree. Diana was a rebel in her own way and had (regardless of Bashir?s influence) less than cuddly warm feelings about ?the Firm?, Charles, the men in grey, and the monarchy itself. There was a BBC TV poll on the monarchy taken in the boys? childhood, and people were invited to state whether they wanted a monarchy or not. Diana said cheekily to her elder son who was watching the programme with her that they should vote and they voted against. I was in Britain then and can remember it being reported.

I wouldn?t be so sure that, jokey poll or not, Diana (and the rest of the Spencer clan) were or are so 100% pro monarchy. Remember Diana spoke of going to the Queen for help in her desperation about her marriage, and, she got nothing helpful from her mother in law at all.

As for Tina Brown, she was an editor in NY throughout most of Diana?s marriage and her interactions with Diana would of necessity be confined to when she was in London and Diana was in NY. ?Dear friend?? Well, I?m sure she likes to think so. However, I can think of at least a half a dozen pals who were closer to Diana that Tina, regardless of her books on Diana, published after her death. And, incidentally, there were some personal observations of Charles in Tina?s book on Diana that were, shall we say, less than flattering!

And, from Wikki.

Brown's biography of Diana, Princess of Wales was published just before the 10th anniversary of her death in June 2007. The Diana Chronicles[49] made The New York Times bestseller list for hardback nonfiction, with two weeks in the number one position.[50]

A sequel, The Palace Papers: Inside the House of Windsor? The Truth and the Turmoil, on the period between the deaths of the Princess of Wales and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, was published in 2022. "Some of the gossip", wrote Philip Hensher in a review for The Spectator, as in "all books of this sort, is grossly implausible."[51]

Who knows what influence Diana would have had over Harry's romances, but if he had married Meghan while she was alive I think there would have been a lot of drama in their interpersonal relationships.  Diana would have been jealous over anyone whom she did not specifically select for her sons, and even then there would have been drama.  She has a lot of problems in her relationships with people, even those she liked.  That's just the way it was. But she most certainly would have adored her grandchildren, and I think it's so special that the young ladies share the same middle name.  It will connect them forever.

Frankly Diana could be so erratic that I think its hard to say what mood she might have gone into, had Harry married Meghan during her lifetime, or had he then decided to move abroad.  She might have decided to go with him.. or been furiously angry at his walkng out on her and William.

I was thinking more in terms of what she would be like as a person than her looks.  I remember her as a young mother with relatively young children, but I think she was gettig to an age where her boys were maturing (William anyway) and Diana was very volatile and well flakey... She seemed more erratic and unstable in her mid 30s than when she was younger, I think that Will was right to say that she was paranoid and that the Bashir lies had made her even worse and more fragile mentally....I think he was assuming an adult role of trying to soothe and care for  her by then....

I totally agree. Raising adolescents is not an easy task, anyway. I've always thought that she would have had a hard time when it came to them branching out and away from her.

Its just hard to imagine really.  If the boys were starting to date, Diana would be taking a bit of a back seat, and I cant quite imagine her being like that.
Title: Re: 25 years after Diana,Princess of Wales died

Yes, that's why I say there would probably have been a lot of drama. William once said, laughingly, that his mother would have been busy undoing all of the disciplinary work that he and Catherine would have done with their children. So if they got through the dating and marriage stages and arrived at the grandchildren stage she would probably have been another Queen Alexandra. That would have been interesting!

Frankly I dont think that Will and kate are all that strict as disciplinarians anyway.  George is shy and mostly has been well behaved.  But Charl and Louis not so much.  I just honestly can't imagine Diana settling down though to take a back seat in the papers to her kids having romances. I feel that it would be hard for her unless she did find a partner of her own, for her to see the boys and thier girlfriends being on the front-page socialising and being noticed by the press and public.

I agree that she would have had a hard time when her sons started seriously dating. It could have gotten extremely complicated and tense, including after they were married.

I get the impression that the William and Catherine's kids are definitely more grounded and less likely to act out than their father and uncle were at around the same age. (By behavior I am looking at ages 6 and up as many  under 6's are still learning to self-moderate their behavior and developmentally do not possess the same maturity.)   By contrast, William and Harry were sadly dealing with the disintegration of their parents' marriage, a frequent turnover of their nannies and other familiar staff coupled with a pair of parents who were not really working as a team.  Both were off to boarding school around the age of 8 or 9 like their parents so they were also being  partially raised by the school staff/heads of household.

Frankly I think that the idea of Diana coming along and spoiling the Cambridge children, is a bit off beam. She might have, but IMO Will and Kate have let all three of their kids act up in public, (George didn't so much but he's perhaps naturally quiet) and IMO, they should probably have been home with Nanny.  However, William's misbehaviour at Andrew's wedding didnt look good either.
but to return to Diana, I think it would have been hard fro her to take a bit of a back seat.. she was a beautiful woman, who was used to being on the front pages and for having the papers scour all her men friends to see who might be her boyfriend.. so would she have liked it when there were lists of "girls that Will was dating" etc?   would she have been a bit jealous when she saw William living openly with K and being able to see her for years and get to know her well, while she herself had ended up married after such a short courtship.
would she have been jealous when she coudl see that now, William was married and had a woman who was first in his life rather than her?

Yes, I think we agree on that.
Lately I have been thinking about her legacy - it really is wonderful that she has four granchildren! I hope in time there will be a child who resembles her and more than one who has her ability to relate to people.

She has 5 grandchildren.. and honestly, I think that while Diana was in many ways a lovely person, her temperament made her volatile and often difficult.  So Im not sure that its a good idea to wish that one of her grandchildren resembles her, besides which they are differnet people and have the right be seen as themselves, not as a New Diana.

Today marks 26 years since Diana, Princess of Wales was killed in a car crash in Paris.

I wonder if there are any programmes about her on TV here.

People on radio here in Aus mentioned Diana in the morning. There was a short snippet on the 6pm TV news.

I think there was a very new documentary made this year, called ?Diana?s Last Love? about the Dodi romance. It?s on YouTube. The buggy was the 25 years last year. That doesn?t mean people don?t think about Diana, on SM and other places on the anniversaries.

More tapes of Diana talking about Charles and her marriage have emerged and will be aired on US TV. Including apparently, Charles?s disappointment at Harry not being a girl, and his estrangement at the christening after grandmother Frances Shane Kidd told him off.

Both Diana and Charles in many ways were still kids who didn't understand a damn thing about real life,  they both made a zillion mistakes together and sadly we will never know how things would have affected Diana yet I hope Charles has learned something about how to treat people with respect and stop being an  as*.

They are lucky at that time there was no social media. I think she wouldn't be seen as a victim, her words would be picked apart and challenged.

Talking about scandal, with today's social media, Diana as every public figure would be ''monitored'' there every word and move.  People to date discuss a Diana quote and it wouldn't and doesn't hold as it did until approx. 10 years ago where ''instant flash news and 'live social media discussions with voice video data wherever you are in the world takes place started, that means around 2013 onward.

BALMORAL, talking about gatherings, family joint and group events.  You read this line in the 90's poor thing. You read this line in 2023 and LOL about a family gathering holiday which is yearly and think mental health problems like instantly.

Ms Junor writes in her book: ''She hated the countryside, hated his family's passion for horses and dogs, hated the rain that poured down remorselessly; and she felt that her husband was avoiding intimate contact.''

In which case she was probably right. Charles palmed her off on to his Sec and aides on several occasions.  I wouldn?t want holidays each year in the wet Highlands myself, nor dinner and teatime conversations dominated by how many stags had been stalked, their weight and number of antlers, and how many birds had been slaughtered on the shoots.

Seeing it today vs 10 years ago before instant flash live discussions with varied opinions from royal watchers and experts too that interact with one, I'd say she created most of the drama, soap opera, unpopular opinion - very likely made up stories too in her mind, woke speaking her subjective truth. Her son H seems to emulate that too.

Diana wasnt making up stories in her head about Camilla. She was very much there, looming over the marriage. Nor about Charles?s contemptuous attitude towards her, his wife.

If there was SM in the 1980s and ?90s as there is today, don?t be too certain that Diana wouldn?t have millions of defenders and Charles and Camilla would come out smelling of roses. Those of us who remember Diana also remember the way she conducted royal engagements, was interested in people, asked them questions about their lives, exchanged jokes with them. Directly opposite to how the Queen, Charles, Anne and the rest of them conducted themselves with the public.

And Camilla and Charles are none too popular today, partly because of the treatment of Diana. And that is in 2023 in the SM age.

My POV changed with this interaction I have now compared to 10 years ago.

There are historians that for example have youtube channels that are so prepared, they literally open ''all the books'' with a same or similar passage of an event about i.e. Diana, then explain the ''difference'' minimal or a gap, and who of these authors were 'helped' by who in reference to ''a passage'', more explanation of the higher probability who got it right. This didn't exist 10 years ago, so there is so much to discuss or so much to learn or so much to listen and mull over.

So prepared* these historian youtubers actually show the books, read outloud the passage from 'each of the multiple authors' then explain each author's Diana passage, then explain how and who each author got it/the info from, so interesting, truly fascinating stuff.

YouTube ?historians?, whether accredited historians with degrees or not, also have POVs and agendas of their own that they wish to put forward and therefore there is a great deal of cherry-picking among the ?evidence of bios etc. Also of finding a new angle or hook to hang a theory of theirs going on. Not everyone on YouTube is scrupulously fair. And history professors are also likely to have their own agendas. As I found out with one of my minors ?Modern European History,? years ago.

Of course - the highest level - PHD.

I see no problem Historians decide to open their own youtube channel and social media, they make it more legitimate the methodology of showing the books, reading the passages, showing the passages. where/what/who/how. Most if not all are unbiased, stating ''what do you think', leave your comment''. Matter of fact, they are being highly praised for doing this. Before nobody had this access of seeing all the Diana books lined up and sectioned by a passage, quote, dialog compared and contrasted in one go. Nobody thought of making before Social Media existed (10 years ago) an excel sheet sectioning this methodology.  They deserve all the hundreds of thousands of views and extra income, believe me, it's a lot of bacon.

They, as any other profession are just adding or entering into modernizing their career and income.

In reference to cherry picking, each to their own. I've seen fellow members cherry pick here, especially in Diana's thread.

I do look at genuine historians who examine the medieval and Tudor period on YouTube in fair, balanced and interesting ways, involving documents of the time and that doesn?t involve picking bits and pieces out of 20th century bios that in the case of modern royals often involves sources that report royal gossip.

And if that last sentence in your post was a dig at me, I?d just like to state that I have read many Diana books coming from different stances and POV and that has enabled me to make my own mind up about them without the assistance of others, whether they are historians or not.

I also remember Diana from the time that she was first considered a serious girlfriend to Charles, in other words from when she was a teenager in 1980 until her tragic death in Paris as a divorced woman in her thirties.

I also saw her several times in real life in both Australia and Britain, (once in a restaurant in Kensington) and her charisma showed through in all her public appearances. I was also in England, staying with friends in Windsor actually, when she was killed, and I viewed the floral tributes and the funeral procession on that sad and historic day. So I don?t need historians to tell me how to think of her, thanks.

And my opinion of Diana and of Camilla is shared by a majority of Britons. There have been several quite recent polls that show that.

25 years after her death, Princess Diana is more popular than King Charles, and the monarchy | YouGov (https://yougov.co.uk/topics/politics/articles-reports/2022/11/24/25-years-after-her-death-princess-diana-more-popul)

From Alluding 'youtuber historians' cherry picking to feeling a dig of cherry picking. I wasn't, but favorite authors have been stated in many threads, especially Diana's thread.

From PHD Historians that have a youtube channel (to enter modern times, keep up with their livelihood) to ''genuine historians''?

A question,  a genuine historian shouldn't follow technology and world advancement and live out of whatever old pre social media only? and very likely get retired/retirement because it can't accept new ways of media communication in the world?

NOTE: I ONLY mentioned new modern ways - social media, which wasn't available 10 years ago.  It is not my fault that you dislike it or are angry about it. Technology has brought social media to everyone, all sorts of professionals use it, their bio is in their profile - easy to search to see if they are genuine or fraudulent.

I?m not angry about SM at all. I use it, as on here and other forums. I just don?t believe what a great many people say on Tic Toc and Twitter about different subjects.

As for these academics, many of these bios on Diana used sources that were overly sympathetic to the point of idolatry (especially in the earlier 1980s) or cast aspersions on her (as with Penny Junor as author, always and forever a Charles supporter) from Charles?s friends and Courtiers.

I?ve read a great many of both and have also read more balanced authors such as Tina Brown. I thought her bio on Diana was terrific. I?ve been a voracious reader all my life and have quite a few books in my library on Diana, on Charles, on William and Kate, Harry, on Prss Margaret, Fergie, Andrew and many other modern royals, including one ancient one on Diana by Lady CC you will be surprised to learn, I suppose. And books on the Spencers.

I would rather read those books, and others from trusted authors over the years (those that don?t exaggerate, are biased or lie) than sit there in front of a screen watching supposed experts (and being an historian and having a PHD doesn?t necessarily make you an expert on the BRF or on Diana,) pointing out snippets of bios that may or may not have come from sources these people say they come from.

Unless there are credited historical sources (and I include amongst these, bios of Queen Mary and Queen Victoria and King Edward?s? VII and VIII I?ve enjoyed) that show research undertaken in the Royal Library at Windsor for example, then they will always be untrustworthy to a certain extent. And that includes quotes in these biographies of Diana  from the woman herself AND from others around her.

So it's about me?  I only mentioned youtube. Anyway I will move on, I do not mind.

^ I want to also point out the methodology of that YouGov survey of November 2022 is based on the series The Crown by Netflix. The Crown is not based on facts, their finding of the poll are 50 years and older who knew Diana unfavorable, younger generation 14 to 25 years old favourable because of the victimhood depicted in The Crown by Netflix.

Title: Re: 25 years after Diana,Princess of Wales died
Post by: Curryong on September 03, 2023, 11:17:54 PM
It?s not about you. At all.
And those 50 plus and older aren?t ardently anti-Diana. Those who married in the early 1980s and had children in the early 1980s like herself, remember her fondly to this day. There are still lots of them. And young people don?t alll get their impressions of Diana and Charles from The Crown.

Under thirties years of age Britons would have heard their parents and grandparents speaking of Diana and about her, especially if they saw her on public engagements and had memories. And Diana?s funeral was watched by many millions of Brits (as well as those around the world) and that funeral and its aftermath was talked about for years.

At least part of Charles?s and Camilla?s relative unpopularity with Britons of all ages in polls over the last two decades has to do with what happened to his first wife and his first marriage, and that?s a fact. Camilla is still not up in the polls where most European consorts are and neither is Charles as monarch compared to most others. And that is due to the Diana effect, (at least in part) , and pollsters and the Press acknowledge that, though the Press,  working with the Palace,  try to puff Camilla up as much as they possibly can.

The main point is that neither Charles nor Diana knew each other well enough to marry, it was all about a royal family trying to create a fairytale which failed big time.  Both of these immature child adults made mistake that destroyed the marriage and still decades later people are blaming them for their mistakes.....time to move on and let the subject close for good as life has moved way past them. We shouldn't blame the dead or living for what happened decades ago.....

^^ Sounds rosy, but I just repeated the methodology explained in the yougov  link (I mean I do read links people post in the RIF) - it doesn't mean yougov sucks, it only means they are factually honest in stating that the survey is based on Netflix The Crown.

The Crown series has declined - they will be doing Diana content because she's dead, this has been confirmed - the new episodes will be based on Diana.  Netflix can't do loose facts (reckless and deceitful stuff) on the POW's or Princess Anne as shown in the yougov link as #123 because they would be sued. They would need reliable facts, which very likely translates to nothing fascinating for the viewer.

Oct 20, 2022 - The creators and cast of The Crown have rejected criticism that the series is ''exploitative'' of Britain's royal family/The Guardian

Google search ''The Crown series declined'', 20 pages of headlines similar to the above, all dated October 2022 previous to the Yougov survy of November 2022.  The Crown series stopped Season 5 to respect the Queen's death, but after a period they put it back only to get worse headlines, which ensued  a slump in viewership - they showed Prince Phillip having an affair, all touchy feely - actors touching and feeling/having an ''intimate'' affair with Penny Knatchbull.  It's easy to be reckless with dead people.  Now imagine if they did this to live people, i.e. like the ones who were polled as #123.

****
Neil Sean said a few weeks ago, Netflix will base Diana's affairs 'loosely' - hopefully people around the world will shame Netflix.  We will have to wait and see if Neil is correct about his inside source.
