:xmas4:   :snowflake::happyuk:A thread to discuss the Christmas and New Year's activities for all  of the members of the extended British Royal Family. This includes all of the Queen's children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her cousins and their families.

Princess Beatrice and her young family wrap up for a waltz round Hyde Park's Winter Wonderland | Daily Mail Online (https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10249807/Princess-Beatrice-young-family-wrap-waltz-round-Hyde-Parks-Winter-Wonderland.html)

QuotePrincess Beatrice and her young family were spotted enjoying all the fun of the fair yesterday on a visit to Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park.

Pushing her ten-week-old daughter Sienna in a trendy ?1,000 Fox 3 Bugaboo pram, the 33-year-old appeared relaxed alongside husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi.

Also with the pair was Edoardo?s son from a previous relationship, five-year-old Christopher Woolf, known as Wolfie.

After browsing the Christmas market and playing fairground games, the family stopped at a German bratwurst stall in the London park?s Bavarian Village.

Comfort, strength and hope: the royal messages of Christmas 2020 ? Royal Central (https://royalcentral.co.uk/uk/comfort-strength-and-hope-the-royal-messages-of-christmas-2020-168928/)  (This article suggesting what will likely be the Christmas messages for 2021 highlights many monarchs so I will post it here and in the Modern Monarchies forum.)   :xmas10:

QuoteThe countdown to Christmas is well and truly on as December gets under way. And amidst the many royal traditions associated with the festive season, the Christmas speech given by monarchs around Europe remains a high point for many. While always filled with seasonal greetings, they are also a chance to share reflections and often include rare personal messages and royal contemplations of the year just gone. This was perhaps more true than ever at the end of 2020 when the Christmas speeches of Europe?s monarchs took in the extraordinary time everyone was then living through.

The Queen spoke of the importance of hope in her address on Christmas Day 2020. She also shared her pride in all those who had done so much to help and support others during the most trying times of the pandemic and reassured those watching that they were not alone. But it was faith in the future that was her main inspiration, as she said ?Even in the darkest nights there is hope in the new dawn.?

What a great family photo and I'm happy that the kids have had the opportunity to see where the Middleton family lived during Catherine and Pippa's early years. Little Louis is not looking so "little" anymore.

New photo of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their family released for Christmas ? Royal Central (https://royalcentral.co.uk/uk/cambridge/new-photo-of-the-duke-and-duchess-of-cambridge-and-their-family-released-for-christmas-169655/)

This article has some recollections of those who were associated with the pre-school that Catherine attended when her family was living in Jordan.

Prince William and Kate Middleton release 2021 Christmas card | Daily Mail Online (https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-10296631/Prince-William-Kate-Middleton-release-2021-Christmas-card.html)

QuoteThe Duchess of Cambridge learned Arabic, recited verses from the Quran and celebrated Ramadan when she attended nursery in Jordan.

Kate's family moved to Jordan in May 1984 when she was aged two and her sister was just eight months old, after father Michael, a British Airways manager, relocated to the Jordanian capital of Amman for work.

Kate was in a class of 12, while the nursery looked after 100 chlidren aged three to five from Jordan, Britain, Japan, India, Indonesia and American.

In the morning, everyone was grouped together to learn Arabic before separating into different classes.

'We would read one verse from the Quran to improve the children's Arabic and tell stories about the Prophet's companions, like Omar Bin Khattab. The idea was to reinforce concepts such as respect and love,' her former teacher Sahera al Nabulsi previously told The National.

'The teacher used to ask in Arabic, 'Who is wearing red today?' so that the children would recognise the colours,' Ms al Nabulsi recalled.

The nursery founder would dress up as Santa Claus at Christmas to entertain the children, and celebrated Eid al-Fitr at the end of Ramadan when a drummer would visit to entertain the children.

Children also enjoyed school trips twice a month to places of interest such as the Haya Cultural Centre.

Ms al Nabulsi recalled how Carole usually did the school run, but that Michael Middleton sometimes collected Kate in his work uniform

'The kids used to get very excited and run to see him,' she said.

After Michael's work in Jordan came to an end, the family moved back to Berkshire where Kate spent the rest of her childhood.

Very unusual card by Charles and Camilla, I think they are trying to say something in this card about the paramedic as that is what was going on in the world then.   Whatever, it is nice to see them doing something different...I have always thought Charles was a real gentleman....he sure is by that picture.    I think Camilla brings out the best in him, makes him smile and laugh at himself.  People highly underestimate Charles, he is a brilliant man and businessman.

As soon as I saw the picture of William's and Catherine's Holiday Card and saw Charlotte, I thought there sits Queen Mom her great grandmother........spitting image for sure and Lois is all Middleton, His grandfather Mike totally, George is more William and I think even some of his dad's personality in time will come out.  He looks to be  shy and reserved in public yet at home I bet he is a rambutan little boy.  I really like this card.......a lively beautiful family, Oh William you sure did find the perfect woman for your bride and mother of your children.....a very strong intelligent woman who was born to be a mother and queen consort for the country.

Royal Central with its second post on how royals celebrate their Christmas and New Year's holidays.

https://royalcentral.co.uk/uk/christmas-with-the-windsors-how-british-royals-celebrate-134678/  :happyuk: :xmas5:

QuoteEach family has its own Christmas tradition and royal families are no exception. In this installment of our Christmas series on how ruling houses across Europe mark the holidays, we?re headed to Sandringham for a look at how the House of Windsor celebrates the season.
A Very Big Family Lunch

A week before Christmas, the Queen invites the extended Royal Family to Buckingham Palace for a lunch. These festivities are a way for the whole House of Windsor to get together ahead of the big day as many of the Queen?s cousins will be celebrating with their own immediate kith and kin away from Sandringham.
The Queen Takes the Train

If there?s one sight that tells you Christmas is actually, really and quite absolutely just around the corner, it?s the image of the Queen taking the train to Sandringham. In recent years, photos of Elizabeth II, usually in headscarf and very warm coat, railing it up to Norfolk have become part of the British royal Christmas season. Once she arrives at King?s Cross, the big day is imminent.
Christmas Eve at Sandringham

The Royal Family gathers at the Queen?s Norfolk Estate by Christmas Eve and no one wants to be late because this is the time the Queen hands out the presents. Gifts are exchanged after afternoon tea on Christmas Eve with all the neatly wrapped offerings set out on tables and then passed around.

Prince William shared a few BRF Christmas traditions during his radio show with the children at the Royal Marsden earlier this week and emphasized the importance of the extended family coming together to celebrate.  He also revealed that his favorite Christmas song is "Feliz Navidad" and favorite holiday film is "Elf."

Prince William reveals favourite Christmas movie and how being a dad has changed the festive season (https://www.msn.com/en-au/lifestyle/lifestyleroyals/prince-william-reveals-favourite-christmas-movie-and-how-being-a-dad-has-changed-the-festive-season/ar-AARTxKK?ocid=msedgntp)

Quote"Bringing the family together at Christmas time is always lovely because we're quite spread out doing our things throughout the year and so we get very few moments to actually come together," William told Alston.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are expected to attend Christmas at Sandringham with the Queen and Prince Charles and extended members of the family, including the Earl and Countess of Wessex, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie.

The royal family has expanded this year with the birth of four children, three of which will be at the Queen's country home.

William said his children, Prince George, eight, Princess Charlotte, six, and Prince Louis, three, loved seeing their relatives.

"When I see my children meet up with my cousins' children, and they all have a wonderful time playing together, it's very special.

"Christmas is a new dynamic when you have children, suddenly it's a whole different ballgame of noise and excitement," he laughed.

"I'm enjoying the new version of Christmas in my life."

EXCLUSIVE: Queen won't spend Christmas alone as senior royals agree to cut socialising in run-up
Prince Charles and Camilla, Prince William and Kate, Princess Anne, Prince Edward and his wife Sophie have cancelled their pre-Christmas plans to ensure they can be with the Queen.
The Queen will not spend ?Christmas alone after senior ?royals agreed to reduce all but es?sential contacts beforehand, amid a surge in Covid infections.

Prince Charles and Camilla, Prince William and Kate, Princess Anne, Prince Edward and his wife Sophie have cancelled any pre-Christmas plans to ensure they can be with her.
Royal sources tonight said that while there remains ?obvious ?uncertainty as to how Christmas will look exactly? the royals were committed to doing all they can to be by the Queen?s side.

One alternative being examined is for the royal family to spend Christmas at her Windsor Castle home, where she has spent most of the pandemic.

A secure Covid bubble is in place with dozens of staff who have spent the crisis safeguarding the Queen, and the Duke of ?Edinburgh before his death at the age of 99 in April.

Family members invited will be expected to take Covid tests on the days before, and on Christmas Day.

A royal source said: ?In terms of plans for Christmas, everything is up in the air. Senior members of the family have spoken with each other and cut back on all but ?essential contacts in public so they are ready to travel to be with the Queen wherever Christmas can take place.

Apparently Charles is organizing Christmas at Sandringham rather than the Queen.

Quote
The Royal Family is to rally round the Queen this week as those closest to the Monarch have vowed that she won?t be alone for her first Christmas without the Duke of Edinburgh.

Although it remains unclear what form the Royal festivities will take, or where, a source said there was ?a strong desire? from the Queen to gather her family together at Sandringham if possible.

A Palace insider said: ?It would be such a bitter blow to the Queen not to have Christmas at Sandringham so there?s an operation underway to try to make sure it?s a special time of year. Sandringham is such a special place to Her Majesty.?

It is understood that Charles has also been involved in organising the preparations for the family Christmas at Sandringham, which has recently lost several members of staff.

Charles is expected to lead the Boxing Day shoot, a role previously held by Prince Philip.

A source close to the family said: ?Everyone will be asked to take a [Covid] test beforehand. Unless there are new restrictions brought into effect or it is deemed too unsafe for the Queen, Christmas won?t be cancelled if it can be helped.?

Yet there have been happy additions to the family this year, too.

The Queen will hope to spend time with her latest great-grandchildren ? Beatrice and husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi?s two-month-old daughter Sienna, Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank?s ten-month-old son August and Zara and Mike Tindall?s third child, nine-month-old Lucas.

William and Kate will stay at their home at Anmer Hall, which is a short walk away.

One insider said it ?was quite possible? that Kate?s parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, will come up to stay and may be granted an audience with the Queen. William recently spoke of his fond memories of a Royal Christmas at Sandringham and the walk from St Mary Magdalene chapel with his grandfather, Prince Philip. ?

He used to walk so fast that there?d be huge gaps and spaces between all of us walking down, and there?d be us at the back with little legs trying to keep up,? said William. ?You start to feel quite attached to those moments and those memories.?

For the Queen, and those closest to her, such memories are all the more precious. As one source close to the family put it: ?I hope it can all be worked out. Like any family, none of us knows how many Christmases we have left.?

The family will make the best of it at Windsor Castle.

PR wise, they can go to St. Georges Chapel and have Chris Jackson and their fav videographer to take this historic moment for posterity...for whatever reason one wants to place as 1 and 2. Queen and Covid times. They can then release the pictures to the worldwide media.

The important thing IMO is that she will not be alone, and can enjoy the family company. And food, drink and games.

From the WHO's latest announcement today:

asked if the WHO wanted people to cancel Christmas Dr Harris said that is: 'not what the director-general was saying - he was saying large events, so he was actually referring to a reception we promised to have with journalists...'

On people's plans for Christmas, she said the public should think about questions such as: 'Who is coming? What is their status? Have they all been vaccinated? Are you taking other measures - are you opening your windows, ventilating your room? Can you space things, have they worn masks? So there are lots of things that you need to do and take into account when you put your party together.'

William, Kate and their three children George, Charlotte and Louis are unlikely to change their plans to spend Christmas at Anmer Hall, their family home in Norfolk - but they would go to see the Queen before they depart.

Last year, Prince Charles and Camilla spent Christmas Day at Highgrove, his country estate in Gloucestershire, and their plans for this Christmas have not yet been revealed.

The Queen will not attend church in public but will worship in her private chapel at Windsor Castle.

She has already recorded her annual Christmas message to be broadcast on the day.

^ I think the entire Middleton family will be staying at Anmer Hall. That is 5 children between Cambridges and Mathews running around the countryside.

The Cambridges were going to Norfolk when the plan was for the Queen to spend Christmas at Sandringham. Now that she's staying at Windsor we don't know what's going to happen with William and Kate.

Um...could the DM please update their photos of the Wessex children? These pictures must be at least five years old.  :notamused: And DM,  I would assume that Eduardo and Jack  are going to be invited to dinner too. It would have been nice to see them included like Timothy Laurence.

As for the Cambridges...well the Middletons are in Berkshire so they're not too far from WC so they could decide to go to see Michael and Carole and then see the extended family at Christmas.  :xmas21:

Not sure if this is actually true, but according to this article the Queen's great-grandfather King Edward VII started the tradition of weighing Christmas guests upon their arrival and at their departure.  IMO the math seems off because I understand that a stone is equal to 14 lbs and half a stone should be 7 pounds, not 3.

stone | Definition, History, & Facts | Britannica (https://www.britannica.com/science/stone-unit-of-weight)

QuoteHe wanted to ensure his guests were ?well fed? and used a jockey?s weighing-in chair to conduct the procedure. He believed, supposedly, that guests should put on 3lb over the Christmas period. Most people don?t want to contemplate the damage that turkey, the trimmings and a tub of Quality Street does to their waistline.

Proof you can put on half a stone with a Christmas binge! | Daily Mail Online (https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-10345827/Proof-half-stone-Christmas-binge.html#comments)

Although it?s a time of great happiness and good cheer for many, Christmas can be hard for those who have lost loved ones.

This year, especially, I understand why.

But for me, in the months since the death of my beloved Philip, I have drawn great comfort from the warmth and affection of the many tributes to his life and work ? from around the country, the Commonwealth and the world.

His sense of service, intellectual curiosity and capacity to squeeze fun out of any situation were all irrepressible.

That mischievous, enquiring twinkle was as bright at the end as when I first set eyes on him.

But life, of course, consists of final partings as well as first meetings ? and as much as I and my family miss him, I know he would want us to enjoy Christmas.

We felt his presence as we, like millions around the world, readied ourselves for Christmas.

While Covid again means we can?t celebrate quite as we may have wished, we can still enjoy the many happy traditions.

Be it the singing of carols ? as long as the tune is well known ? decorating the tree, giving and receiving presents, or watching a favourite film where we already know the ending, it?s no surprise that families so often treasure their Christmas routines.

We see our own children and their families embrace the roles, traditions and values that mean so much to us, as these are passed from one generation to the next, sometimes being updated for changing times.

I see it in my own family and it is a source of great happiness.

Prince Philip was always mindful of this sense of passing the baton.

That?s why he created The Duke of Edinburgh's Award, which offers young people throughout the Commonwealth and beyond the chance of exploration and adventure.

It remains an astonishing success, grounded in his faith in the future.

He was also an early champion of taking seriously our stewardship of the environment, and I am proud beyond words that his pioneering work has been taken on and magnified by our eldest son Charles and his eldest son William ? admirably supported by Camilla and Catherine ? most recently at the COP climate change summit in Glasgow.

Next summer, we look forward to the Commonwealth Games.

The baton is currently travelling the length and breadth of the Commonwealth, heading towards Birmingham, a beacon of hope on its journey.

It will be a chance to celebrate the achievements of athletes and the coming-together of like-minded nations.

And February, just six weeks from now, will see the start of my Platinum Jubilee year, which I hope will be an opportunity for people everywhere to enjoy a sense of togetherness, a chance to give thanks for the enormous changes of the last 70 years ? social, scientific and cultural ? and also to look ahead with confidence.

I am sure someone somewhere today will remark that Christmas is a time for children.

It?s an engaging truth, but only half the story.

Perhaps it?s truer to say that Christmas can speak to the child within us all.

Adults, when weighed down with worries, sometimes fail to see the joy in simple things, where children do not.

And for me and my family, even with one familiar laugh missing this year, there will be joy in Christmas, as we have the chance to reminisce, and see anew the wonder of the festive season through the eyes of our young children, of whom we were delighted to welcome four more this year.

They teach us all a lesson ? just as the Christmas story does ? that in the birth of a child, there is a new dawn with endless potential.

It is this simplicity of the Christmas story that makes it so universally appealing, simple happenings that formed the starting point of the life of Jesus ? a man whose teachings have been handed down from generation to generation, and have been the bedrock of my faith.

His birth marked a new beginning.

As the carol says: ?The hopes and fears of all the years are met in thee tonight.?

I wish you all a very happy Christmas.

I guess that it  depends on where renovation work is happening at BP. If a space is available, then it could be at BP or if not maybe at CH. Considering that the extended BRF has a number of members with careers it's more practical to have it in London.

I imagine that the "save the date" messages were likely sent out prior to QEII's passing, so I would be surprised if it was canceled. It's an opportunity for the family to gather in happier circumstances. Going forward into Charles' reign, I don't know if he'll continue the tradition or not.

Windsor Castle is decorated for the holidays by the Royal  Collection Trust.

Windsor Castle decked out for Christmas | Daily Mail Online (https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-11465351/Windsor-Castle-decked-Christmas.html?ico=related-replace)

QuoteThe Berkshire residence, where the Queen had lived in her final years, has been transformed with astonishing Christmas displays including colourful festive garlands and towering 20ft Christmas trees topped with angels.

People will be able to view the stunning displays in the State Apartments from today - a day earlier than usual.

The Windsor Castle decorations will remain in public view until January 2, the Royal Collection Trust confirmed.

Finishing touches were added to the Christmas tree in the Crimson Drawing Room this morning. The tree is decked top-to-bottom in pink and purple baubles, thousands of glittering lights and topped with a traditional angel.

Meanwhile, white, red and green wreaths now adorn the Grand Staircase, and an opulent festive decoration sits in the middle of the table in the Waterloo Chamber.

He is expected to be joined by the Queen Consort and wider family, as they mark the first festive period since the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

The Queen spent 32 Christmases at Sandringham, the private home of generations of British monarchs.

Windsor Castle always looks absolutely superb when the Christmas decorations are up. The bright lights on the Xmas  trees and the red and green of the other decorations always seem extra special when they are in surroundings of stone and panelling. I?ve never been to the Castle at this time of year. Maybe I?ll go next year, but the English winters put me off!

I for one hope it is true, I always thought it was cruel to keep her away from her children during the holidays as that is a time of compassion and love.....some in the royal family did not understand that.  At least Sarah never shouted to the world that she hated the royal family for doing that, she kept her mouth shut at least.  I don't like some of the things that she did over time yet I understand how insecure and needy she was, still no excuse yet she and Andrew raised 2 very kind beautiful girls who have worked and accomplished their own lives without backing from the royal family.  I hope they have a very joyous happy holiday together with lots of babies running around and cookies in hands of all those babies.

So the Yorks are all cosy together in Prince Philip?s old haunt Wood Farm, where he lived before getting gravely ill. And Fergie is forgiven and brought back into the fold! Of course Diana had to eat her Xmas dinner alone without her boys on a few occasions after her separation as well.

I'm pretty sure Fergie has stayed at Wood Farm in the distant past before PP moved in as per reported - retirement, to be close to her daughters during the festive period.

William and Kate have also stayed at Wood Farm during their 8 year courtship hosting shooting parties. There's plenty of pictures of both there stays at Balmoral and at Sandringham estates.

I've also read it is a guest house. That PP took it to permanently live there during his retirement is of a different use to what is was and is.

Why would HMKCIII not give use as it was, a guest house with 5 bedrooms?

The BRF haven't been at the Sandringham estate since the pandemic broke. Normalizing routine/life again.

In reference to the Sandringham estate, during the pandemic PP was still at Wood Farm, when ''full'' lockdown came into place in the UK, he was moved to Windsor Castle with the Queen.  The Cambridge's moved before ''full'' lockdown took place to Anmer Hall/Sandringham estate.

The pandemic from lockdown to full lockdown took place in every country worldwide.  ''Most'' of the countries did it WHO textbook recommendations, meaning and in other words giving 3 days/72 hours for people to mobilize to their 'permanent' home if within the country or availability rules from one country to another to fly out immediately.  Stats indicate the FULL lockdown happened the month of March and Early April differeing from one country to another. Of course there are about a dozen countries that did it different to the WHO recomendations, but the UK wasn't one of them.

Diana has also stayed at Wood Farm before marrying into the family.

From what I recall the Queen continued to invite Diana to Sandringham after the Wales announced their separation in 1992 and even after the Panorama interview which aired in November 1995.  However Diana declined the invitation in 1995.

QuoteDiana canceled plans to spend Christmas with Prince Charles and her in-laws, Buckingham Palace announced Monday. That means for the first time, she will be away from her sons, princes William and Harry, for the holiday.

Instead of going to Sandringham, Queen Elizabeth II?s estate in Norfolk, 100 miles from London, Diana will take a private holiday, the palace said

The royal reason a Christmas tree stands in London?s Trafalgar Square ? Royal Central (https://royalcentral.co.uk/interests/history/the-royal-reason-a-christmas-tree-stands-in-londons-trafalgar-square-184035/)   :xmas10:

QuoteEvery year since 1947, a 20-metre tall tree has been donated to the British as a thank-you from Norway. Now, that tree shines in London?s Trafalgar Square every holiday season.

The tree was given to thank the British for their support during World War II. In April 1940, Germany invaded Norway and attempted to capture King Haakon VII, the royal family, and other members of the Norwegian government. The King then sought refuge in Lonon and led the resistance there. After Norway was liberated in 1945, the Norwegians returned home on the HMS Norfolk.

While the tree was first displayed in 1947, the tradition of giving Britain the tree started in 1943. Norweigan underground fighters gave the tree as a symbol of their gratitude. There were actually three trees ? one for the Norwegian King, one for the Norweigan Embassy, and the other to go on display in Trafalgar Square. It was only after the war, in 1947, the sentiment took precedence, and the customs currently associated with it began.

The tree is typically a Norwegian spruce (Picea abies) over 20 metres high, and about 50 to 60 years old. It is selected from the forests surrounding Oslo with great care, sometimes several years in advance. The Norwegian foresters who take care of the tree often describe it as ?the queen of the forest.?

The tree is felled in November during a ceremony in which the British ambassador to Norway joins the Mayor of Oslo and the Lord Mayor of Westminster. Brought over to the UK by sea, the tree completes its journey by lorry. Once at its destination, a specialised rigging team puts the tree in Trafalgar Square using a hydraulic crane. Of course, there needs to be decorations. The tree is decorated in traditional Norweigan fashion with a vertical string of energy-efficient lights.

QuoteKing Charles, feverishly working on his first Christmas broadcast, is seeking guidance not from his mother ? the late Queen ? but from his grandfather George VI. 'He has been inspired by the memory of his grandfather,' royal historian Hugo Vickers tells Radio Times. 'He cannot do things exactly the same way as Elizabeth II, but George VI was his last male predecessor as king and so a good role model.' He adds: 'Let us hope the benign example of his grandfather does indeed inspire him.'

I just love these extremely old ancient buildings like this, they are history still in the making and builders today can NOT make them like this anymore.    The designer of this church really was amazing, he thought outside the box and went huge.....the detail work I just love.

Like many of you I was so pleased to see the Christmas Carol Service return again this year and hope that it will become an annual event. Westminster Abbey is such a splendid location for this service and the many others it hosts throughout the year.

More information on the architectural history of Westminster Abbey which is a mix of Romanesque and Gothic styles, though only a tiny portion of the original Romanesque style Abbey church remains.

The Daily Telegraph is speculating that the Christmas lunch will be held tomorrow at Windsor Castle.

QuoteRoyals' pre-Christmas lunch
Meanwhile, the Duke of York is expected to join fellow royals at their annual pre-Christmas lunch on Tuesday at Windsor Castle.
Up to 50 members of the wider family are expected to gather at the castle for the private event, which will be hosted by the King for the first time.
The lunch has traditionally been held at Buckingham Palace. It was last held in 2019 after being cancelled for the last two years due to the coronavirus pandemic. Buckingham Palace and a spokesman for the Duke declined to comment.

Glad that they were able to gather together as a family this Christmas considering they hadn't had the luncheon since Dec. 2019.  :xmas22:
These first holidays without a loved one  can be challenging and I'm glad that they have each other to reminisce with and pass on wonderful stories to the late Queen and DoE's grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Unless Charles has decided to have the "kids table" in the dining room, then there will be a full nursery at Windsor Castle today! I expect that the crawlers, toddlers, walkers and runners will be having their own fun and enjoying a special lunch together. Louise can share news of her first semester at University with family and James will likely be having his height measured by his cousins as they watch him sprout up.

QuoteSpeaking on JOE UK's House of Rugby podcast, he said: "I didn?t drink actually, this is the other one, the family lunch there must be about 70 of us there ? there are seven tables and the kiddies have their own little one in a different room. I was on Prince Charles' table. It was lovely, really good."

:xmas14:   I'm guessing his description was from one of the pre-Pandemic  lunches when QEII was the hostess. Having several smaller tables makes more sense than setting up the large rectangular tables that we see at State Dinners. Much cozier atmosphere where everyone can chat easily with each other.

As expected the younger guests can have their own age appropriate fun together. I would expect that BP's staff created a fun atmosphere for the little ones to enjoy.

Windsor, not so, those that live within the estate, those that used the rear road, no pictures.

The royal standard was seen flying at the estate on Thursday, indicating the arrival of the monarch at the Norfolk hideaway where his mother Queen Elizabeth II spent so many Christmas breaks.

It is the first time that King Charles and the Queen Consort, Camilla, have been at Sandringham in three years, due to the disruption caused by the pandemic.

The Prince and Princess of Wales and their children, the Princess Royal and her family, and the Earl and Countess of Wessex and their children are also expected to celebrate Christmas there.

At least the Just Stop Oil people seem to have ended their sticking things to works of art for now. However, I do think there may be a few protestors out at Sandringham especially if Andrew sticks his head out anywhere, or next year. The new reign heralds a bit of an all bets are off trend, imo. What would have been considered very disrespectful to the old Queen might well not appear the same way with regards to a new monarch.

QuoteThey sang their little hearts out for their fathers back in Ukraine on the frontline. A children?s choir of Ukrainian refugees performed at the royal carol service, after being personally invited to do so by the Princess of Wales.

Christmas walk at Sandringham?. I predict Camillas 2 children and their families. Wales and children. Other family extended members of KC.

I?ve been to St Mary?s church at Sandringham, several times. The only way to get back to the big house, Sandringham, for Xmas lunch, is to walk along the path that leads to it from the church, (or drive if ill or old.)

So you don?t have to be Nostradamus to foresee that all members of the family, including extended family members, will be doing the walk from Church to the house. Unless they are non believers, which is a distinct possibility given that Britain is very much a secular country.

That doesn?t mean however, that Andrew, Fergie, Lady Sara, Eugenie and Beatrice or most other extended family, will be walking and taking flowers from the public. Nor will Camilla?s children and grandchildren, whom most members of the British public (say about 98% of them) wouldn?t know from Adam, or a drovers dog, as we say in Australia. And that goes for all the extended members as well.

Happy to see Camilla's family are welcome now at Sandringham. KCIII and the QC have a blended family so IMO they deserve an invitation too. Good to see that Earl Snowdon and Lady Sarah Chatto have invitations to Sandringham this year to join their maternal cousins for the holiday.  Their aunt Queen Elizabeth was one of their last links to their maternal grandmother and mother so this Christmas is likely to be a poignant one for them.  It's a nice gesture that Sarah, Duchess of York has been invited by her former brother-in-law to Sandringham.

As for who is walking in the procession tomorrow, we'll know soon enough.

A very well attended Christmas 🎄 service today and this appears to have the largest gathering of under 15's that I have seen there for Christmas service in many years.

Kids from oldest to youngest: Savanah,  Isla, George, Mia, Wolfe, Charlotte, Louis, and Lena. Lucas, August and Sienna will have a few years before they make their debuts. And I'm ever hopeful that cousins Archie and Lilibet will one day join in too.

Unexpected surprise-Andrew  but it was fitting that he was present today  IMO.

Good to see that Wolfie was there with the family too.

I didn't see Anne or Timothy there today and hope all is well with them.

Because of our geography we get the monarch?s speech here before the British do. New Zealand gets it first, then it spreads through the Commonwealth. Nobody I know here actually sits down to watch it as I remember families doing when I was a child in England but part of it is shown on the evening news on Xmas Day.

Several of my English relatives and friends watched it though. I phoned them late last night their time. I think the TV viewer numbers will naturally recede as people get used to having a King.

Quite an extensive fashion round up for the BRF, so this is best place to put this link. Fashion identification for Catherine, George, Charlotte, Louis, Sophie, Louise, Zara, Mia, Lena, Savannah and Isla. Savannah is tall enough to be wearing one of her mother's coats!

Congratulations, including the 'watch later in other social media accounts', approx all added up 30 million without counting per country (just social media + BBC).  I hope they enjoyed their boxing day shoot and informal lunch, he deserves it. It must be so hard all the consecutive deaths and issues alone within the family (Andrew York, Harry and Meghan Sussex) to keep it together and business as usual.

I really liked his speech, so kudos. 🥂

There's a cute little video in the link below where Mia Tindall and Wolfie Mappelli-Mozzi are both offered gifts from the crowds outside the church.

Watch Wolfie copy his royal cousins ? and see Princess Beatrice's reaction! | HELLO! (https://www.hellomagazine.com/royalty/20221228160450/princess-beatrice-stepson-wolfie-copies-royal-cousins/)

QuoteAnd after being inspired by his cousin Mia, who happily accepted a gift from onlookers and then flashed what seemed to be a chocolate selection box at Wolfie, the little six-year-old wriggled loose from his father and stepmother's hands, to go and accept some goodies for himself.

Being new to the role of royal mum herself, Beatrice at first dispatched her husband Edoardo to follow little Wolfie and bring him back from the crowds. When it became clear that Wolfie had indeed been offered his own gift, the thankful mum made a dash herself to the generous royal fan who had shared the gift, to thank her personally for her generosity. Watch the sweet clip captured by The Barking Bugle in the video below.

Annabel Elliot the sister of Queen Camilla is refurbishing Sandringham and Wood Farm cottage. Major changes not only in refurbishing all the rooms but also the Queen's family - her children and grandchildren will also spend Christmas at Sandringham.

Chris Ship reports that the ball room will be converted to a larger version of a dinning room - Christmas lunch - everyone together rather than children in one room, etc.  Everything else remains the same - Church and the walk King, Queen, POW's and minor royals.

About half to three quarters of the people (mostly children btw) on that list are not ?royals?. Edo, the Chattos, the Gilmans, Gabriella Kingston, Helen Taylor, for example. And most on the list wouldn?t be recognised by members of the British public if they saw them in the street. And that would include the Gloucesters!

How is the Waleses Xmas card festive and Christmassy? In fact it was criticised online by some for not being. Nor was the Edinburghs. And the King and Queen?s harked back to the coronation months ago.

As only 6% of adults in England attend church regularly I doubt that the Sussexes wishing everyone seasons? greetings on their Archewell card offended anyone, least of all the Royal Family. It certainly didnt insult them. Charles is the ceremonial head of the Commonwealth which encompasses many faiths and religions.

And I believe that card was for Archewell clients and staff and the couple sent family festive cards to close friends, relatives etc.

The King has arrived at Windsor Castle where he is hosting the Royal family's annual pre-Christmas lunch for the first time.

Charles was the first to arrive and was pictured being driven through the gates in a blue overcoat, suit and tie. The Queen Consort, in a blue patterned dress, smiled for photographers as she arrived just behind him.

The private lunch marks the biggest family reunion since the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II in September.

So, after all the squawking done by the tabloids over the past fortnight regarding Camilla?s children and grandchildren being at Sandringham for the Royal Christmas, it turns out that they, as they always have done, are celebrating Xmas in their own homes. Camilla is likely to join them tomorrow if she follows her usual habit, while Charles will go to Birkhall later than he usually does. With the exception of Sarah, who has joined Andrew and her daughters at the Church Service, it?s just the usual suspects otherwise.

Just because Tom and Laura and their family unit didn't go to church/Sandringham walk means they aren't there.

The Middleton's have been at Anmer Hall several times - they go to St. Mary's at Anmer Hall - have been spotted 25th at midday lunch/Queen's speech several times. Pictures were later taken the first Sunday falling before/during/after their daughter's birthday however it falls yearly.

Royal Watchers know this when reading the customs, traditions, new traditions, new extended members invited, stories that come later - as I said a few days ago the per usual things each family unit does after boxing day. The Middleton's in the past decade have stayed at least until the second Sunday/back to London, now Windsor for their children's school.

KCIII has added divorced parents to celebrate together - his speech is very emotive about family aspect, unity, relgions and it unique and one similarity about basically love.

Who I think didn't go is Peter Phillips and his children.

Late Queen Elizabeth wouldn?t allowed invited divorce parents during her reign years expect Camilla?s children without Queen Elizabeth?s permission or consent by her authorities to Balmoral or Sandringham

But King Charles allowed invite divorce parents to Sandringham and Balmoral permission from King Charles?s authorities, permission or consent

Queen Camilla's family 'not at Sandringham' despite widespread reports they would be | Royal | News | Express.co.uk (https://www.express.co.uk/news/royal/1849064/queen-camilla-family-sandringham-christmas)

From the Express.
?Contrary to reports, the King and Queen did not host a larger-than-expected family gathering at Sandringham, and there is no truth to the claim that Camilla's family joined them, Mail Online reports. The family members of Queen Camilla are not present at Sandringham for Christmas this year.?

And most of the royals and many of the non royal grandchildren are gone from Sandringham by Boxing Day  anyway. The only people who stayed a few days usually in recent years were people like the then Wessexes because the late Queen was so frail and needed some company.

Like Camilla?s family, other family members have other relatives to see and other members of THEIR own family. Plus, Fergie was only around this year because PP just couldn?t stand her and now he?s gone she is persona grata again. There?s online criticism that Andrew was hanging around however.

I don?t ?love? any tabloid. However, Camilla?s children and grandchildren weren?t seen at Sandringham at all, quite obviously weren?t at Sandringham and in fact hadn?t changed the custom they had of staying in their own homes for Xmas so Andrew PB could be with them and after Xmas week, Camilla joins them. So, in spite of all the newsprint and articles about her offspring being there for Xmas, they weren?t. And in fact I didn?t expect them to be. I thought it was the tabloids making things up once again and it was.

It was a broadsheet The Times and The Telegraph that first said it Tom and Laura story.

Just to be clear Chris Ship offered the news to the broadsheets

He is a known Sussex supporter. So if Camilla?s children are not there someone set Ship up.

ALL the British media make things up about family members of the RF. It?s virtually expected! And as for Fergie I have nothing against the woman but apparently cash for access which the Yorks indulged in more than once in their greed is now quite OK with King Charles.

As I said in my previous comment, if it's true that Tom/Laura are not there, Chris Ship has been set up, gave exclusives to People Mag, The Times (Ward) and The Telegraph (via Byrony, but not Tominey).

The RR's usually have back up system. The 3 herein mentioned are - I call it Omid territory. Check their social media and pen(it)ship - they do not care a bit if they are sending mis and disinformation' in broad daylight no matter what and thousands of comments under whatever they write with receipts to whatever they are saying. The 3 have their peak days of bombarding stuff that is really cray.

I don't know what to think about this at the moment, I guess tomorrow or the day after tomorrow we will know.

****
It may be a set up cause the next info given to them is the Waleses are going to the beach, which didn't pick up. I think by the time this info was given, they noticed something, truth, untruth, a set up.

Let's see, I really do not agree that these three should 'at this point' yet be Omidified. IOW, if the comms team of Montecito called me to inform, I wouldn't know IF I would do it or not, clearly the 3 are doing it. I don't blame them initially, to have the other side of contact.  I really do not see any problem with the specific of Camilla's children is my point. There's a big difference with this type of info and 'hurtful' info which they are accepting too.

The King?s immediate family and extended family. Unified. Supportive. The King having Sarah, mother of his nieces, attend was right. It was church. It was Christmas. It has been 30 years ago now. Church and lunch after.
I thought Camilla, The QC would have her children. I be next year. Not this year?too much now.
I assume her children was at lunch in private there a Sandrigham.

There was no sign of Camilla?s children and their families. Not in cars entering and leaving the estate, not at the very early church service accompanying Charles and Camilla.

They were obviously all at home for Xmas where they are every year and Camilla visits them immediately after Xmas.

There was one news report saying that Camilla?s children would be staying at Sandringham for the Christmas long weekend and it was quite obviously a false report as so many media reports about the royals and the external family are.

Well, the King?s Xmas speech certainly didn?t beat the rest of the TV offerings here in Aus. And as for the BBC documentary, those that wanted to watch would have streamed it in some fashion, and those that didn?t, the vast majority of Australians, didnt bother.

Nobody of my acquaintance even mentioned either of these programmes in passing over the last couple of days, and I?ve been to several post Xmas get-togethers. It?s now Dec 29th here.

Most people here  turn on to Channels 9 +7 at 6pm to see the whole news not just a Xmas message from anybody. How would anybody know when the King?s message was on during the hour of news. It didn?t lead the news on the most watched news service, 9, because we watched it. And A Current Affair and ABC news didn?t feature it tops either. And it wasn?t discussed at all among the 120 people I was mingling with on a social occasion on Boxing Day.

And even in the UK the speech gained less viewers than in 2022. Charles drew (according to the article below) similar figures to ?Come Dancing? the popular contest.

King's speech tops Christmas TV ratings but draws less viewers than last year (https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2023/12/26/kings-speech-tops-christmas-tv-ratings-draws-less-viewers/#:~:text=The%20King's%20speech%20topped%20Christmas),%E2%80%9D%2C%20according%20to%20overnight%20ratings.

Here is Media Spy (it?s a non ratings period here until late Jan so these aren?t official figures).

Funny how the figures printed here are just for the news on Channels 9 +7 (which generally win anyway whatever the time of year) and don?t mention the King?s speech at all. The figures you posted obviously were your own additions/assertions about Charles?s speech having this huge impact! This isn?t 1937 and people clustering round the radio to listen to King George V, lol! .

The only figures on there that directly mention the King?s Speech are for the national broadcaster, the ABC.

And note the figures that tuned in for that in comparison to the top five programmes within Aus. Less than half in all the capital cities.

Channel 9 and Channel 7 win their ratings slots practically every day of the year because Aussies want to watch the news for the day. They certainly didn?t switch on the TV because they wanted to watch Charles drone on.

As far as I remember (and it?s vague) his speech was about twenty minutes in and we were talking anyway about other things so I couldn?t tell you what he said.

Another poster on the big royal forum, who collects data for that forum said that he was ?as full of platitudes as the late Queen?. And she?s sort of a monarchist though not as far as Charles is concerned apparently. And she didn?t bother to watch the Coronation.
