So, the truth comes out...I *love* watching Kate's style and wardrobe choices. :hide:
Here are my top sources:
What Kate Wore (http://whatkatewore.com/): an excellent blog that is updated quickly with IDs on outfits and beautiful, though limited, photos. Susan, the editor, does great predictions of what Kate will wear (she called the Tory & KO jewelry YEARS ago).
However, my secret weapon for the absolute LATEST updates are from WKW's public Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/WhatKateWore). The women are there are relentless and will not stop at discovering what Kate is wearing/buying/ordering. Nearly all are very much pro-Kate, and it is a sweet community.
Another one I like is Go Fug Yourself (http://www.gofugyourself.com/tag/royalty): a youthful blog that enjoys covering royal fashion, and has said it will cover this tour. Usually has slideshows with funny captions.

You may recognize the work of the London-based Aussie duo by this custom pearl-accented boysuit that Queen Bey wore on her Mrs. Carter tour. Ralph & Russo's designs are a favorite of top-earning celebrities, thanks in part to red-carpet-ready shape and detail (see: Angelina Jolie in futuristic white), but also Forbes-list-only high price points. Grazia reports that the couture label's cocktail dresses start around $80,000 each.

Same here... some of her outfits really hit the mark (although it's very hit or miss - our fashion sensibilities only overlap a bit).
Uh-oh. Wind blew up her skirt as she went down the plane steps... I can imagine the headlines.
We warned her
The six times it has happened before should have been warning enough...
I am not fond of the Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band look, never have been (but, that is a personal preference, I know others love the look) I don't think the hat is complimentary to her but the red tone certainly is and the hemline is the perfect length though unweighted, yet again.
^^ Eh, I'm not a huge fan of it either. The red color is flattering, and the hemline is appropriate though!
Uuuf. There must not be any weights in that dress, looking at this photo (http://www.gettyimages.com/detail/news-photo/prince-william-duke-of-cambridge-catherine-duchess-of-news-photo/483129947).

Not a hair out of place! Duchess of Cambridge is immaculate as she touches down in Australia following 22-hour flight wearing recycled £310 MaxMara wrap dressKate, however, will not be taking a dresser on her tour of Australia – preferring to organise her necessarily extensive wardrobe herself.
Although the idea of employing someone to organise your wardrobe seems rather archaic, the Duchess is likely to have around 32 changes of dress during the 45 plus engagement trip – sometimes having to swap outfits two or three times a day.
[/size][/i]
It's so smart what she did there :D started with a recycled outfit to avoid critics and months before the tour only recycled her clothes to make sure no tongues start wagging about price tags and 30 + new outfits :yesss: very smart thing to do .
She was classy as ever getting out of that plane with heels a wet tarmac and a squirming baby looking still managing to like perfection ... my role model :coy: :coy: :teehee:

:flower: Symbolism
According to Māori legend, the silver fern once lived in the sea. It was asked to come and live in the forest to play a significant role in guiding the Māori people. Māori hunters and warriors used the silver underside of the fern leaves to find their way home. When bent over, the fronds would catch the moonlight and illuminate a path through the forest.
This distinctly New Zealand symbol is considered a badge of honour by the people, products and services of our country that carry it.
The pin is borrowed from the Queen, it was given to HM as a Christmas gift by the Women of Auckland during her 1953-54 Commonwealth Tour.

Also there to help the Cambridges on their three-week tour of New Zealand were Kate's private hairdresser, two private secretaries, a personal assistant, and a former British ambassador to Washington who is there to advise the royal couple.
But despite having to coordinate around 32 changes of dress during the trip to New Zealand and Spain, the duchess has not taken a dresser, preferring to organise her wardrobe herself.

Kate - freshly tended to by on-board hairdresser, Amanda Cook Tucker (paid for by Prince Charles out of his private fortune) - looked eminently salon-worthy, if a little wind-whipped. A red pillbox hat secured her long hair.
Top stylist Cook Tucker charges £300 a day, plus travel costs, for her hairdressing services. She previously accompanied the Duchess of Cambridge on the Diamond Jubilee tour of the Far East in September 2012, when Prince Charles again footed the bill.
However, unlike Kate, the Duke of Cambridge and his crowning glory were left to face the elements without the administrations of a personal hairdresser, the protection of hairspray - or even a hat.
Prince Charles and Diana, Princess of Wales undertook a journey similar to that which the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will tackle over the next few weeks - Princes William and George even the same age.

The Duchess of Cambridge looked as chic as ever as she arrived in New Zealand today to begin a tour of the country with Princes William and George. At Sydney Airport the Duchess sported a grey MaxMara dress which she first wore when she was three months pregnant with Prince George.
She then made a quick change into a double-breasted red Catherine Walker dress and coat, with matching Gina Foster pillbox hat, looking every inch the Princess as she disembarked the plane in Wellington.
She also wore a diamond and platinum silver fern brooch lent to her by the Queen.

Where most of us would look distinctly frazzled after almost 28 hours on a plane, the Duchess of Cambridge looked a million dollars as she arrived in New Zealand today.
But then most people don't have a team of helpers, including their own personal hairdresser, on hand to give them a mid-air makeover before they touch down.
The Duchess, who also had the advantage of a bed in a luxurious first-class cabin on the flight from London, had a team of helpers to make sure she looked refreshed and glamorous for her first visit to New Zealand.
Most importantly of all, the Duchess was also accompanied by Prince George's nanny, Maria Borrallo, who would have been able to settle the eight-month-old and allow his mother to get some precious sleep if he started grizzling during the flight.
Qantas has won awards for the level of luxury offered in its first class cabins. Passengers have an extra-wide seat that folds into a flat bed, with a duvet and sheepskin mattress, and are given 100 per cent cotton pyjamas and slippers A la carte meals are prepared freshly on board, and a complimentary leather wash bag includes skincare, toiletries, ear plugs and a leather-bound mirror.

I would have liked the coat she wore getting off the plane if it didn't have all those buttons. The buttons made it look too costume-y for me, and completely took away from the brooch she was wearing.

I often find Kate's clothes veer into "outfit" territory, based on 1) a theme (ie garden visiting, sports, holiday, school, or military) or 2) based on another well-known woman (Diana, Jackie, or Grace Kelly).
I gotta admit: I don't understand why Kate didn't wear her hair back today around all these babies! One of them is bound to pull or put it in their mouths.

So I see she showed the World her private parts AGAIN , the Republican movement in New Zealand has gained momentum and there were practically no people waiting for them what a mess ... but glad to see the PR prop baby doesn't work in THE REAL WORLD ...
Friendly reminder that we have a thread to discuss Kate's tour wardrobe/style here (http://www.royalinsight.net/forum/index.php?topic=69184.0), and one to discuss the tour and Republican perspective here (http://www.royalinsight.net/forum/index.php?topic=69102.0). :flower: Let's keep this thread about Prince George and the tour.
Her skirt went up a little hardly showing her private parts. I watched that video EVERYONE had their clothes blown about the woman in cream was holding her skirt down with one hand and her hat in another.
The still photos give a very different impression of what actually happened (as seen on the video) in real time. There was one photo that showed her thighs, but on the video, it happens so quickly, you can hardly catch a glimpse of it. Watching the video made me realize how blustery it was and how difficult it was for everyone to cross from the plane to the interior. I'm glad no one actually tumbled down those stairs!
1 It has happened too many times, she should have known better at this point, she is in her 30s and not a toddler.
2 Wearing those high heels to go down plane stairs when she knew she was going to be carrying the baby as well was thoughtless and stupid, this is not her first time traveling, those stairs are uncomfortable and if she weren´t so self absorbed she would have realized that was not a safe idea.
3 While wearing those heels, carrying the baby when she realized a) her hair was flying and blocking her view b) her skirt was flying and required her assistance to prevent her from showing her underwear c) she couldn't hold on to the rail she was constantly trying to hold on to because of all of the above she should have asked William for help instead of continuing to wing it down. That was reckless and irresponsible...
It's certainly not something I'd try--too many opportunities for failure or injury. I found myself holding my breath as I watched the video, even though I knew beforehand that she didn't fall. I wonder why William didn't carry George down?
I'd have thought the longer length, heavier material and the double layer (dress & coat) wouldn't have presented a problem, but apparently a gust of wind will balloon any fabric. It would be wiser to wear a more fitted dress and eliminate the possibility. And she looks very nice in fitted dresses/skirts.
1) We saw about four inches above her knees.
2) She obviously feels comfortable in heels. Some women (including me) can run, dance, jump, and fly up/down stairs in them. If Kate had felt uncomfortable in them, I hardly think she would have put her baby in danger.
3) She knows her capabilities and inabilities better than we do, and apparently she was right. Her underwear was never in danger of being shown, since her skirt didn't fly up that high. She didn't slip down the stairs, and she didn't drop her baby. All is well, just as she certainly knew it would be.

1 - You saw nearly up to her crotch but the flying dress cast shadow on it...
2 - It was dangerous however self absorbed or arrogant she may be.
3 - She knew nothing evidenced by the fact that her "free" hand had to fly from the rail to the skirt numerous times and that her hair covered her face coming down airport steps which are nothing like normal steps. She was lucky.

No there wasn't any picture with her skirt so high that she was so exposed it just flew up a little .
I wear skirts and if it's windy it does fly , it's just normal people who get pissed at her for allowing this to happen probably don't wear skirts too often or aren't women . She would have to have 2 kg weight s for the skirt to stay down with how windy it was .
It is not rocket science, on windy tarmacs wear pants or pencil skirts since you have shown your butt a few times already. It doesn't require Marilyn Middleton to be a genius or a weight lifter, it just requires her to show a little class...
I agree. I can only assume she is a proper little showoff. Fine, wear a billowing coat/dress, tarts trotter heels - but for heavens sake give your young son to his father to carry down the deep, wet and windy steps, whilst she concentrates on her hair, dress, wind and steps.
She is making sure that baby is all Middleton....IMO.
There were other women wearing skirts on the tarmac. Their skirts flew up, too. Skirts fly up all the time. In fact, it was only about six weeks ago when I saw another Royal's skirt fly up... big picture in the Daily Mail. Not one word was said about it. But Kate..... different story.

I thought we were not "comparing," Cindy? Unless, it suits the argument, of course. Kate was the only one on show, getting off the plane and on the tarmac, no-one cares about the others. ..
The minute she stepped off that plane, her fringe flew across her face, she wobbled and quite frankly look a mess - whilst holding a baby. Not good!
She had one chance of a "royal arrival" picture, and IMO, she blew it
Yes, that was a comparison. They're bound to happen from time to time, as we know. In any case, I purposely did not name the Royal. No point in that if we only care when it's Kate's dress that flies up and no one cares about the others. (Sorry, but I didn't see her wobble.)
Cindy
I was talking about the other women on the tarmac (which I did not bring up). You are the one that continues to compare a member of the RF (no names mentioned) when used to excuse Kate the Great. I just don't get it. Well I do, actually.... ;)
And she did "wobble" she looked a mess - a wobbly, skirt lifting, hair--blowing, mess....whilst holding a young child in her arms..... Now if that is not a "showoff" I really don't know what is.
Not a good look :

It's not my all time favorite, but I *do* like Kate's outfit today. The coat is a beautiful color, and the length is appropriate.
Her hair is pulled back, so people can see her, and it doesn't get in the way during the walkabout, which is nice.

QuoteThe Kate Effect Does It Again! $395 Tory Burch Dress Worn by Duchess in New Zealand Sells Out Within Hours
The Duchess selected the Tory Burch dress when she, Prince William and Prince George paid a visit to Wellington's Government House to meet with new mothers and their babies at an event for the Plunket Society.
Though many New Zealander's had hoped that Kate would wear something from an Antipodean label, the Duchess instead chose the graphic-print dress by American designer Tory Burch.
Within minutes of the event, thanks to reports on her outfit choice on Twitter, the dress began selling out on Net-a-Poter.com, where the dress was priced at $450.

Times 2, unless Kate is a dwarf. :haha: :haha: :haha: However you defend this, it was an inappropriate thing to have happened for the sixth time while representing the Queen...
Princess in Waiting, sorry I didn't see your question yesterday. I knew the passenger was Wiccan because she told me. We did the usual chat about where we were going, etc. And she said something like, "You don't mind my tattoos, then?" I didn't, and she pointed out a couple of them, saying she was Wiccan, and the tats were Wiccan symbols. She said that a priest sat next to her once, and read his Bible the whole trip. I said I wouldn't read too much into that because I've seen priests read Bibles next to me and I'm not Wiccan. And yadda yadda.
She was very chatty, until I gave her my People magazine. :)
On topic, I thought Kate chose the red outfit because it was honoring NZ and the red and silver buttons were meaningful somehow. She looked lovely. I'm not shocked by her coat and dress flying up. I've seen much worse. And, I've flown with witches!

She needs to get a handle on her inelegant behavior, being praised by the media calling her Marilyn is, first, an insult to Marilyn (she did it once for a movie, she didn't flash her bum and crotch merrily at every airport she visited) and second, she isn't young enough, although she is insecure enough to be starved for praise about her body, to not give a damn that she flashes parts that should remain private at every airport and even at other public official events representing the Queen.
From today's appearance: Like the blue color of the coat and the pleats in back. From the side and back, the coat drapes beautifully. However, facing full front, I don't care for those particularly large, puffy pockets. Seems a bit dowdy. I'd prefer the length just a tad shorter, though I'm sure most others would not. Cute pony tail with the hair wrapped around it.
The black dress at the reception had beautiful beadwork on the shoulder, but otherwise was quite nondescript. It's hard to see how it fit from the pictures. Her hair looked shiny and nice, but it is distracting when she touches it. I think that happens from nervousness.
Overall, I'd give a "thumbs up" to both of today's dresses and hairstyles.
I really love what Catherine is wearing today
I loved the blue color and the coat from the back, from the front it was simply something a WW2 school matron would wear... The ponytail looked great on her. The black dress was a good fit and had a great fall but was otherwise a nondescript black dress, worn with a nondescript black clutch and nondescript black shoes with her hair draped around her face covering the only detail on the dress... Was it a funeral or a reception?
I am not as fond of suede pumps as she seems to be, apparently she is quite closeminded in terms of her looks and clothes, suede shoes, hair draping her face, unweighted flowing skirts from light fabrics windy or not...
QuoteSHE has not worn a New Zealand-designed outfit yet but the Duchess of Cambridge paid tribute to her hosts tonight in a dazzling dress.
t a lavish State Reception in Wellington, she wore an evening dress embroidered with silver ferns, the national emblem..
It was a bespoke black Jenny Packham dress which had been hand-stitched with silver beading to represent the fern.
The Queen has long employed the trick of incorporating an item of national importance in her outfits when on foreign tours - and it seems Kate has taken a leaf out of her book.
She and Prince William were guests of honour at the reception hosted by Governor General Sir Jerry Mateparae, the Queen's representative in New Zealand, at his official residence, Government House.

They've arrived.
From April 7 until April 25, the Duke, Duchess and Prince of Cambridge are taking New Zealand, exploring the country's customs, meeting with their leaders and having some fun along the way.
I loved what she wore today :vday4: both the cocktail dress and the coat dress .
Didn't like the red outfit when she arrived but thought the blue outfit and black one she wore looked really nice. Actually thought the black dress was full length at first. Her hair looks great when pulled away from her face. When she wears it down I wish she would stop touching it in public!
I thought the red coat dress she wore on arrival was too costume-y. I did like the dress she wore for the play group, but I thought she should have worn flats since she was doing all that walking around with George and getting up and down off the floor. The blue coat she wore wasn't my favorite. I don't care for that color, and the style didn't fit her right.
I did like the black dress she wore, but it's something we may never see her wear again since it was designed specifically for this trip.

Kate Middleton Has Not One But Two Style Wins In New Zealand
QuoteWe didn't think the royal tour coverage could get any better than Prince George's playdate, but boy we were wrong.
Our favorite couple's trip through New Zealand and Australia rolled on Wednesday, and with it came yet another day of amazing style from Kate Middleton. But just when we thought her light blue Alexander McQueen coat was the only style win of the day -- she manages to knock it out of the park AGAIN that same evening.

QuoteIt was her all-time favourite designer that the Duchess of Cambridge chose for a very special appearance in New Zealand on Thursday.
All eyes were on Kate as she and the Duke of Cambridge arrived in the town of Blenheim, situated in the heart of Marlborough wine country, to take part in a service of remembrance for New Zealand's war dead and to lay a wreath in their memory.
She wore a military blue coat by Alexander McQueen, the same British high-end label the Duchess chose to design her wedding gown and has worn on countless occasions.

FL Michelle Obama should have had her dresses weighted. How hard is that?????????
Because of ones' lifestyle being photographed on the tarmac, getting offf the helicopter, etc, HAVE THE DRESSES weighted.
She could , should know by now, go pants like Hillary and Laura did for boarding AF1 and Marine!
I think FL Michelle Obama has missed the mark many times in her fashion, protocol, and things.
Sorry and yea,I voted for Obama.
K looks nice. Could use some more weight. Alexannder McQueen adn Jenny nPackman have an abundance of pr riches from K. She always wears them. fine. What about other British designers? She wears some of them , but not much. AM Fashion House JP fashion recieve the most noterity adn she has been in them for iconic moments then and still now.
She does wear repeats which throws in a common, earthy touch. The sailing outfit is a repeat from several times over. Timeto retire that one from public. It was perfect for the yacht event: blue, naval looking, nautical looking. The blue wedged. The black heels and nude heels . I sure the nude heels will show up, are a staple for her. She loves really high , classic heeled pump. We here who like heels or any shoe knows, if it works, keep it!! No testing out shoes and at particular times. For her walking , standing, going up steps, perhaps these shoes feel like slippers . Good for her.
K looks pretty. Her hair could be trimmed just a few inich off the bottom to make it shorter, yet still long. Fuller on top . Layered more or layered something to make the top fuller.
The hair simply pulled back with faux hair piece to as a ponytail holder was fine. I assume it was a faux piece. It could have hers too. Some people do use a faux hair ponytail holder. Her hair was poofed on top and it was really good for a windy day. For a serious affair held outside. It was a god look. Classy. Smart. Elegant. Simple. No hands moving the hair while laying a wreath or bowing her head for prayer.
K is a natural amoung the people in attitude. Energy.
I am giving some negative with some postive opinions.
I don't understand wearing the coats as dresses. It was 68F and sunny today. No need for a coat. And I hate the one she was wearing today. The cut and color and not flattering on her.
Why doesn't she just wear a dress or a blouse and skirt?

I think she is trying to look more elegant, hence the coatdress overkill and only two dresses, but I have hated these dresscoats so far... The green ode to the zipper, the red button parade leader outfit and the blue nurse's uniform (i did like the blue color itself.) And, I definitely do not share her fascination with suede shoes... Informally I find her uniform of skintight jeans and the horrible ever-present wedges tacky but liked the blue and white top, nice and comfy. I loved the black and white dress she wore to meet the children but thought she should have worn color and not black and white to the event and certainly not what appears to be her other security blanket besides the hair which is the high heels, flats would have been much more appropriate and thoughtful. The black dress, I thought the embroidered detail was very aging and the black clutch and black shoes made it funerary and the security-blanket hair which needed to be smoothed out of the way to show the embroidery was inadequate for a dress with details on the shoulder... I did like the fit.

I have to admit that the only outfit of Kate's that I have loved so far is the green dress that she worn under that ugly green coat. The black dress with the silver embroidery wasn't bad but as someone else pointed out, the entire outfit was a bit funeral-y
I liked the black dress, but because she had the fern detail on the shoulder I thought her hair should have been pulled back, or in an updo. That's why Kate can't wear jewelry (IMO) because her hair distracts from it.
^^I agree with you, Lowthen.
The cocktail dress could have really been spectacular if she had put her hair in an updo (I'm thinking a chignon on the opposite side of the fern, but anything up would have been lovely). We could have had a clear view of the lovely beading, and of her jewelry, and added to the formality of the event.

I liked the black dress, but because she had the fern detail on the shoulder I thought her hair should have been pulled back, or in an updo. That's why Kate can't wear jewelry (IMO) because her hair distracts from it.
And honestly, she has a very pretty face and nice bone structure that gets lost amongst all that hair.
I agree, she looks great with pony tails and her face is great for chignons but the long hair (probably the styling of it) ages her and makes her face look tired not every face was made to be completely framed by hair.
QuoteThe Duchess of Cambridge Wears Eye-Catching Blue - Despite William Saying Her Green Dress the Day Before Was 'a Bit Bright' (Video)
The Duchess of Cambridge wore a eye-catching blue dress today - despite her husband telling her that the green outfit she wore the previous day was 'a bit bright'.
Arriving in Dunedin this morning, Kate, 32, wore a stunning blue coat and matching pillbox hat.
Kate looked elegant as she paraded a New Zealand designer - of sorts - for the first time on the royal tour. Emelia Wickstead, a favourite of British Prime Minister David Cameron's wife Samantha, is New Zealand born but London based.
She paired the coat with a hat by Jane Taylor, a favourite milliner, and the Queen's diamond fern brooch. The brooch was a gift from the women of Auckland, given to the Queen in 1954, and it is the second time Kate has worn it during this visit.

Royal visit: Kate gives a Kiwi teaser
QuoteIt finally happened: the Duchess of Cambridge wore a design by Emilia Wickstead, her New Zealand-born designer favourite.
She arrived in Dunedin for yesterday's church service in a blue pleated dress by the London-based designer, teamed with the fern print brooch worn on arrival to New Zealand and a bespoke hat by Jane Taylor Millinery - featuring yet another fern.

Might be time to retire the towering wedges:
QuoteJohn Darby, owner of Amisfield vineyard in Queenstown, showed the royal couple around the vineyard - where Kate nearly fell over in her massive wedge heels.
She looked unsteady on the rough ground in her Russell and Bromley cork wedges - and as she slipped she grabbed William's arm to steady herself.

^I agree, she needs to give up the wedges. Or at least, the ones that are 4-5 inches tall. They are not fun to walk in. I'm surprised she hasn't twisted or broken an ankle yet.
QuoteStyle wise, the Duchess of Cambridge is known for her blow dry, nude court shoes and Alexander McQueen frocks. But it is her habit of recycling pieces of her wardrobe which usually gets the most attention. On day six of the royal tour Kate Middleton had an impressive three outfit changes, and one of the looks was repeat from earlier in the week.
In the morning she wore blue Emilia Wickstead to church and a Jonathan Saunders knit with jeans to the rugby. Later in the day the royal couple went to a wine tasting event at Amisfield Winery in Queenstown. For this engagement K Mids changed out of her sweater into the navy double breasted Zara blazer who wore earlier in the week.

^As long as you ordered them because you like them, and not because Kate (or anybody else) is wearing them, then that's fine. People wear the same clothes as other people. It's not that big of a deal.
QuoteGuest host Alyssa Milano said the Duchess showed style and poise and stylist George Kotsiopoulos described her look as "timeless".
"I love what she is wearing it is timeless, this is elegant, it's not old-fashioned, it's not modern."
Despite stiff competition from Hollywood royalty Taylor Swift, host Joan Rivers crowned Kate as overall best-dressed.
Kate's fashion choices have been one of the biggest talking points of the 10-day visit to New Zealand, and have been described by one commentator as further evidence of the Duchess as a fashion icon.
Sunday Telegraph fashion writer Belinda White said Kate's fashion choices were a nod to Diana, Jackie Kennedy and Audrey Hepburn.
More glitz and glam are expected when she goes to Australia this week.
"Come Wednesday, when the tour moves on to Australia, expect to see her in her style element," she wrote.

Glad to see her recycling the red suit from the St. Andrew's visit in 2011.

And her make-up looked good too, which really impressed me. Now if we could just get her to cut off about 4-6 inches of her hair, that would be perfect

It's a label she has turned to on many of her most important occasions and, as a result, the Duchess of Cambridge has rocketed Jenny Packham to fashion fame.
Speaking about the dazzling black evening dress with fern embellishment that Kate wore last week at a lavish State Reception in New Zealand, a nonchalant Packham told WWD: 'Sometimes when we dress celebrities, there are always loads of Twitters and things like that when I wake up, I think, "Oh right, she wore it."
When the fashion site asked if she worked directly with Kate, the designer said: 'Absolutely. It's always quite a collaboration,' adding that she 'kind of always knows where it's going to be worn.'
Jenny, who describes Kate's style as 'great' and 'very British', also dressed Kate Winslet for the London premiere of Divergent two weeks ago.

I think the "you look like a banana" was said in jest and Kate repeated it in humor.
I like the vibrancy and the sleek cut of the yellow dress, although the color may look different in person than in photos. While some are tired of the nude pumps, they work well with this dress. It's bright color blocking eliminates any need for additional color, and white would be a little too "matchy-matchy" IMO. :flower:

I really miss Kate's chocolate brown hair & styles from the Canada tour. Her hair has never looked better.
I hope she someday stops getting her hair done by the same woman that does her husband's and forgives James Pryce and goes back to him.
Hair styles (lots of swept back , but hanging), length, no dress fly ups,...I think this is her best all pulled together look ever for such a length of time.
I like the wrap dress, but Kate's attempts to keep it from blowing apart in the wind have caused her to have some really awkward hand placements.
Also, I think her hair would look really chic in a low side ponytail. I really wish she would do more with her hair.
QuoteYou've got to be quick if you want to dress like the Duchess.
'The Kate Effect' is in full force after the Duchess of Cambridge stepped out in a Diane Von Furstenberg wrap dress for the second day of the royal couple's visit to Australia.
Kate wore a £292 new season blue and white patterned wrap dress from the high-end designer to visit the Blue Mountains town of Winnmalee, just outside of Sydney.
It might have been the more reasonable price of the dress compared to some of her other outfits that saw the £292 Diane Von Furstenberg frock sell out in all sizes except 12 in eight minutes, with the remainder being snapped up not long after.
Soon after even the size 12 had disappeared from websites, Diane Von Furstenberg.com informing users the dress 'is no longer available on our website'.

QuoteDuchess Kate Dress Sells Out in 8 Minutes Flat in Whirlwind of Virtual Shoppers
Kate Middleton has done something that Princess Diana never did. That is to entice the masses to the point that the dress she is wearing gets sold out in under eight minutes! According to the Christian Post on April 17, it took only eight minutes from the time Kate was photographed in this dress for it to be labeled "out of stock." You can see Kate wearing that dress in the above picture.
Princess Diana could never do this, but not because Kate is more popular than her fashion trend-setting predecessor. It is because Kate is living during a time where even some of the most remote spots of the world have access to the Internet today.

I don't even see it on the official DVF website. Whenever they talk about Kate's clothes "selling out" I always wonder a few things. 1. Which website/store are they looking at? and 2. How many were there to begin with?
A lot of times Kate has worn things from previous seasons, which means there aren't many left to begin with, so when they say it's "sold out" that's really using a bit of hyperbole.

^^^ Well back in the day it would take you more than eight minutes to locate the store which had the outfit, get to the store, find your size, try it on and purchase it.
God Bless online shopping. :notworthy:
Life was much harder before the Internet. :P
Cindy
;) I don't know what I'd do without online shopping! I love being able to order things in a few different sizes and send back what doesn't work!
Oh no, I like to feel and try on my clothes. The feeling of paying and putting my stash into the boot of my car is lovely, to me. I'm so old-fashioned.
^^Gosh, I hate shopping in person! I hate the pressure. I even bought my wedding dress over the phone (I had tried it on at the store, but needed to think about it, lol).
Sidenote Jenee, the checkered Gap shirt I bought that was the same as Kate and the "repli-Kate" striped top both went back. Not flattering on me.
^ I bet it looked beautiful on you, .sticky LA
^^AW! I certainly felt beautiful in it  :vday4:

This may be my favorite look from her on this tour so far. I like it when she wears dresses with simple lines and a bit of a pattern.

Previously worn by Mindy Kaling, Kate's dress was sold out before she wore it, but I have no doubt it would have sold out after had some been in stock.

Yesterday's dress hadn't been released yet, and the clutch she's using today was already on clearance. I'm a believer that Kate moves clothes quickly, but it happens with a lot of celebs too.
From what I've seen, most of Kate's clothes are from previous seasons, so they're already "sold out" or at least in a very limited supply.

Very true. I always follow WhatKateWore's tweets & Facebook page, and usually see things before they sell out-- so I can see if they actually "fly off the (virtual) shelves" One of the What Kate Wore Facebook users was at the Oroton store when Kate appeared with her clutch. They had three (!) left, and she bought them all. I wouldn't count that as selling out.
I miss hats; Diana loved her hats with dresses whilst on tour. But now this is Catherine's tour and she has chosen to rarely wear any.

I bet we'll see a hat tomorrow at Easter! Will it have wattles on it?
The show starts in about 2 hours, and goes all day. I hope they bring George, as this would be a really fun event for a family.
From what I can see, it looks like it's a really casual event, so I don't think she'll be in a hat. But, if they attend Easter service at a church then I'm sure she will be in one.
Kate's McQueen dress for Easter service was a past season, in a different color.
I loved this quote about her LK Bennet dress & how Mindy Kaling wore it first:
Quotejennifer38, Baltimore, United States, 3 hours ago
And Mindy actually paid for her as a result of the proceeds of her own labor rather than sponging off the public. Yey, Mindy!!!!

She looks like an old lady . Most of her tour outfits have been grand ma style . Kate your only 32 :orchid: the only time I really liked what she wore was the red coat dress because it was red then the jeans and blazer and her casual tops .. All her outfits for this trip have been blue , white , blue did I mention white oh wait there was green and yellow yay :windsor1:
^^Meh, I haven't seen anything on this tour I've loved.
At the zoo, she's rewearing the yellow eyelet dress from the SE Asia tour, I think.
And the wedges....
Okay, seriously, how can she stand to be on her feet in those things? And with carrying George nonetheless?
If I were her, I'd invest in some cute Ballet Flats. Trust me Kate, you'll still be stylish.
Wedges are very comfortable, but she only wears either the wedges, lk Bennett platform nudes or suede shoes, her shoe style couldn't be more boring. She doesn't wear flats for the same reason she rarely has her hair out of her face... She did wear flat shoes a lot before marriage, apparently she feels the need to be taller than most people to feel regal, is the only explanation I can find for her post-marriage dislike of flats of any kind, or anything less than very high heels except one or two once in a blue moon...
I can't stand in wedges, much less walk in them. But my best friend wore them consistently in the 70's, and wears them now. Some people can, some people can't. I guess Kate is one who can. :)

I honestly don't understand why she's repeating dresses, when she could easily give back to her host country by wearing some of their designers. I think it would be a very simple way to "give back" to Australia.
I don't know is someone already posted this, but here's an intersting article about the Australian designers who were asked to submit designs to Kate, and were rejected:

Just because one can, doesn't mean one should. I can't wear wedges either, or high heels (I have a bone disease). I have to admit though, I love Kate's sledges, and the footwear Rebecca Deacon has been wearing.

IMHO CP Victoria and Daniel are blazing their own trail with Estelle and I suspect that the media knows better than to just start taking photos randomly. Too often because of aggressive photographers in this day and age, other royal families will not be as accessible. The majority of royals do staged and predictable photocalls with their children for most of their lives.

I disagree... :truce: I hope no royal follows on William and Kate's footsteps of hiding their son and providing posed photographs once in a blue moon and only showing their children abroad... William and Harry hate the limelight because of later traumas, the other royals and their children (Spain, Sweden, Netherlands) are doing it right, IMO, not William and Kate, there should have been a photocall in England for their future subjects and the British photographers and people before they went to Australia, but of course, the PR value for a Monarchy vying for goodwill in Oz to accumulate brownie points in preparation for the Queen's passing and not quite as popular Charles assuming the throne, trumped the British people themselves seeing George like this, the first time George was shown should not have been in Australia... Kate and William are not doing it right, IMO, the fact that the British people think themselves undeserving of a courtesy and appreciation most other royal houses give their own citizens in sharing their families does not make their actions the most thoughtful...
Hiding their son? George has been seen as much as William at the same age. Frankly most people in Britain don't care about how the Swedish royals conduct their business. We never did. Britain's monarchy is and always will be different from the continent.

I disagree. IMO the Swedes are the exception to the norm. IMHO the Cambridges are mirroring the royals from Belgium, Norway, the NL, Spain, Jordan, Japan, and Denmark when their little ones were infants/toddlers.There were the usual leaving the hospital photos, christening photos (where applicable) and an older infant photo. Then followed by a first birthday, holiday, and vacation photoshoot. Look back at photos of William, Harry, Beatrice and Eugenie and you'll notice a similar pattern. TRF has a good collection of photos of the royal children born after 2000 and you'll see that there are not too many that were not arranged and released by the families. Most of the couples did not take their children "on tour" unless they were very small and still nursing babies. Maxima and Mary did take their young children back to their homelands for family visits, otherwise most stay at home.
Maxima and W-A laid down the "law" so to say with the introduction of the media code regarding the press and their children. Don't follow the mediacode and you're not invited to future photocalls. Other royals haven't taken it to the same level, but they seem to have an agreement with the press regarding candid photos.

Obviously, they don't care about how the British royals conduct their business either or William and Kate would be would be performing their duties as direct heirs and civil servants who are enjoying the benefits of their future position in the present...
^^^PoP-Most of the world's royals have a similar arrangement to the British ones. IMHO the most "staged" ones are the Japanese photoshoots. Most of the royal children born after 2000 have had their photos released when their parents chose the timing. The press seems to know they need to leave the parents and nannies alone when they're with their royal children.

That only works when there are photocalls, when you play recluse family, the only agreement is, "when we need pr you will get a photo taken by us..." Kate and William are modeling themselves after the Japanese Royal Family with a little Kim Kardashian thrown in... there is no reason why George, at this stage has had no photocall in England but plenty of press photo ops abroad...
No one in Britain is complaining and believe me the tabloids would complain. The other thing is, William and Kate don't make the call over photos ops. Press and Media relations are all coordinated from BP by Charles head of communication.
Maybe Charles and the Queen think the British press has already had enough of George.
I've seen George six times before he left for Australia.
Like their counterparts in the NL, Spain, Jordan, etc...the Cambridges will likely schedule those events at predictable intervals. First birthday, first day of school, etc..They've already had George out with the press in NZ and Australia than Charles and Diana did in 1983. William didn't really have a photocall in the UK until he was closer to one year of age. Prior to a crawling age most babies aren't doing all that much. (He's wearing a blue one piece suit with ABC on the front.) Other photos were released by his parents when they believed the time was right.
The royal parent who likely recalls his/her experience with the press during their childhood, adolescence etc...is going to have some input when making these arrangements. The behavior of the press, access to long range lenses, camera phones and security issues IMHO would make all of these parents more likely to want to have more control over when, where and how their children are photographed. :) Most parents tend to be protective of their young children and that isn't just limited to royals.

My personal opinion? Kate is prettier than her make-up. She wears far too much of it, and it doesn't flatter her. Her make-up is very harsh, and it makes her look a lot older than she is.
I agree, her makeup is aging and she is a very pretty girl.

I think she will look horrible without makeup because she have really bad skin due to years of sun tan and general lack of skincare. She should however hire a professional make up artist who can do good makeup on her because now she simply apply make like clown.
Her lack of imagination really astonishes me. She literally wears the came dresses in different color. She have 1 of the most boring, bland and safe choices in clothes among all royal princesses. Most of her looks cost a fortune, are not fitted properly and more often then not look same to me, just different in color. With her resources and time, she should wow us every single time but all she does is bore me.
I also don't understand those hairs, they make her look unprofessional and untidy and not at all put together. Her hairs looks ridiculous most of the time and choices are boring. Seriously she must be the most bland and boring royal women in current time.
I don't think any of us would expect her to go without make-up entirely. There were reports that she had eczema as a child, and that can leave scars. Plus she could just be self-conscious without make-up.
But if you Google older pictures of her, from when she and William first started dating, she didn't wear as much make-up as she does now, and what she did wear flattered her features very much.
The problem is, she's applying her make-up for the cameras, as though she's on stage. The issue with that is, when you're onstage (literally), you have heavy lights all around you, and your face needs to be seen by the people at the back of the theater. It's completely different than having a photographer in the middle of the day taking an up close picture of your face with a wide-range lens.
Yikes, this new McQueen has a very deep v-neck. I might be old-fashioned, but I'd call it too low cut.
Especially when bending over:

Uh-oh:
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Bl3tWzICMAAqJvM.png
If she were bustier, I'd agree with you, but because she's fairly flat chested it looks okay. Of course, I haven't seen any close-ups, so I could be changing my tune.
^^Eh, I think it just doesn't look appropriate. Then again, Kate must think otherwise (remember the dress she wore when she first met the queen? Sheer v-neck to her navel!)
I think it's inappropriate too but that's what you get from Kate the serial flasher. If it's not her legs then it's cleavage. But she will get away with it because she is small bust wise.
I hate Sarah Burton, she has completely ruined McQueen. It's so 1950's housewife with no imagination and such bland colors. Her bra lines and collar bones are so clearly visible from the back, does she not aware of slips?!
^^ :welcome: and :goodpost:
Thank you!
Just saw clear pictures, it's really deep neck and her bra lines are clearly visible plus cone boobs. Such a tacky look and I'm sure it cost a fortune. How can Sarah Burton call these clothes designer and let alone McQueen. IMO she is a very bad representative of British fashion, she makes british fashion look so old, bland and boring.
Quotet's an awkward reality of royal reporting that we're also in the fashion business. To be perfectly frank I've no expertise nor credibility in this area but I do what I can by forwarding on any details I get from the palace. I also lean heavily on those who know what they're talking about.
I'm certainly not dismissive. The "Kate effect" is a widely accepted phenomenon in the fashion business. The Duchess of Cambridge isn't known for high fashion; in fact she often wears high-street outfits that might even be -- gasp! -- out of season. But, when they're available, they'll sell out within hours of her wearing them, guaranteed.
...Central to this phenomenon is an intrepid troupe of digital fashion scouts who identify and source Kate's outfits within minutes of them appearing in public. Chief scout would be Susan Kelley, best known by her Twitter handle: @WhatKateWore.

Most of her clothes that sell out are of last season i.e. not available and the rest are of very less quantity. So many designers have come forward and officially said it that they don't experience any Kate Effect, indeed Kim Kardashian have more impact on their brands sale numbers then Kate. I'll post link to those article later on.....

It's so sad and pathetic that all we can talk about Kate is her clothes or her son 3 years into royal marriage and nothing about her causes or charities or anything else really. She really is a royal clothes horse and royal incubator. So much potential just wasted.
^Agreed.
She has been presented as nothing more than an attractive mannequin, whose only function is to smile and look pretty. She's not Diana (although, in fairness, Diana wasn't really Diana until her marriage was over), or Rania. She's not going to take on controversial charities like AIDS patients and landmines, or speak out in favor of educating young women in a male-dominated society.
She's going to stick with her "safe" charities and engagements, wear something inoffensive and unremarkable, smile and make small-talk, and for some reason, there are people out there who think that this makes her a "real Princess."
I agree too and not only she will do as little and safe re her charities, she will also visit them as minimum as she possibly can unless of course they throw her a gala dinner like National Portrait Gallery, the only charity she has visited maximum no of time and all there events include a party or a gala dinner.
Having said that I'm not sure how she'll be able to keep this p. Once her looks fade away, she'll come off really boring and unremarkable IMO.
I may be in the minority, but I think her makeup is just fine, and her complexion as well. Her skin isn't like marble, but few people have skin like that. On the other hand, she doesn't have big zits or bumps or pits on her face. As for the V-necked dress, I don't see it as a biggie. It doesn't show anything, she doesn't even have cleavage. There was a great hue and cry only a year or so ago for her to be more adventurous in her clothing, and now that she is (even though it's just a V-necked dress), she's criticized for it.

QuoteIs Liz Kate Middleton's Fashion Icon? Duchess Adopts the Queen's Style for Royal Tour
Kate Middleton seems to have brought a new lease of life to the Royal Family but when it comes to fashion she's taken a masterclass in power dressing from a women in the know - HM The Queen.
She's regarded as one of the most stylish women in the world, while her power to sell clothes has its own name - The Kate Effect. But, it seems Kate Middleton has a fashion inspiration of her own: The Queen.
Elizabeth II has long been regarded as a style icon, with her love of colour, well-cut coats, flattering hats and classic accessories such as her trusty Launer handbag.
The Duchess, 32, has been seen in a assortment of brightly coloured ensembles on her royal tour, which some have dubbed as bold and daring.

QuotePretty in Pink Kate Picks Her Favourite Designer for Third Time During Tour Down Under
It was the label she picked for one of the biggest days of her life. And so when the Duchess of Cambridge needed some showstopping outfits for her tour of New Zealand and Australia, she knew just what to choose.
Stepping off a plane into the Adelaide sunshine today, Kate was once again wearing an Alexander McQueen outfit, this time in blush pink. It is the third time she has worn the label on this tour.
The latest ensemble was in light-weight wool and featured a low-cut plunge neckline, three-quarter length sleeves and a pleated knee length skirt.
Kate, 32, wore simple delicate jewelry, including large pink pearl earnings and a matching necklace on a delicate chain, with her favourite nude heels topping off the entire outfit.

I really like the McQueen dusky pink outfit and it suits her very well.
McQueen, as a design house, produce exceptionally flattering and decorative designs.
I don't think she is taking any risk by choosing this suit. It's the same bodice, same bland color and there is always a balance between being appropriate and taking risk all at the same time. God all she have to dress up like a doll and she still mess that up, no wonder palace keep her locked up.
Also IMO a little girl shouldn't be seeing anything that can be seen in a bathing suit from a royal princess on an official visit in a professional setting, no one is at a beach. Any way that's out Kate, always finding way to show off her goods.

Ah AyVey-Just took a trip down the fashion disaster lane. Let me point out my favorite sources for photos The Royal Forums (Royal Fashion-"The Most Terrible parts 1-4" and Order of Sartorial Splendor "Things that make you go uummm." Sartorial Splendor has a whole page devoted to wardrobe malfunctions. Diana's beautiful but umm generously cut Emmanuel dress during her engagement does make the list. Several wind disasters from a pageant of royal ladies too.
For possible the worst fashion disaster in the "chest area" check out Princess Laurentian of the NL at CP Frederik and Mary Donaldson's wedding in 2004. Not a cleavage mistake, but well...you'll just have to see it to believe it. Other honorable mentions Princess Kalina of Bulgaria at the Luxembourg Silver Wedding. (She's not from a reigning house but her father did go back to his homeland and become PM of Bulgaria.) Princess Michael of Kent chatting up Vladimir Putin at a State Dinner. (They are both German speakers so they were put together.) Princess Caroline of Hannover and Monaco at the Rose Ball 2008 (More of a transparency issue.) Princess Haya of Jordan/Dubai at Ascot. And then Princess Maxima at her most Maxi at the 2012 pre-wedding celebration of HGD Guillame and Stephaine Lannoy.
Enjoy!!! Trust me you'll find that you can't stop looking at all of the train wrecks!!!
^^ TLLK, do you have any links? I want to see these :computer: and I'm not having much luck with my Google skillz! I especially want to see Princess Haya looking anything less than classy...it will make me feel better about my yoga pants :hide:
Ohh I did, thank you! You are right there are some big fashion flops there but what annoys me is that Kate's mishaps are not considered inappropriate. They are always shrugged and passed as something normal that happens to everyone which they aren't especially for someone in her position IMO
Hope that you will enjoy them!! Extra points for the person who can find the wearer of the "Cookie Monster Jacket!!!"
With some of the fashion flops available through the magic of the internet, it really can be a "treat for the eyes."
Names that you will see pop up frequently Margrethe, Kalina, Princess Beatrix's trio of daughters-in-law: Maxima, Mabel, Laurentian :D
^^ No one hate on Mabel's bows! I declare them off limits! ;)
(Seriously, I have a soft spot of her bows. :icare: )

Isn't it too hot to wear such a coat? Everyone else around her are in a summer dress, why is she wearing a coat?
I don't mind the coat, but it's not something I would have worn, especially on a warm day like today
How many green coats does she have now, 5? At least!
That coat is a gorgeous Catherine Walker, in a very bold shade of green, hardly bland. The slender sleeves and stitching detail are streamlined and elegant--very Kate. I have seen lots of spring coats with zippers and belts--very fashion forward, especially the enclosed zippers.
I'm no expert on weather in Canberra, but the forecast for April 24 is 16 degrees celsius, which is around 60 degrees fahrenheit. Certainly the morning with the windy forecast would be chilly enough for a light coat.
To me, bows and hearts are for young women in their late-teens and early twenties, and aren't very mature looking. YMMV.
I find it bland for anyone other than a nun in the Order of St. Patrick... :orchid:
I find it very bland too especially her belt which is as usual above her natural waist in order to look more leggy, as someone said very kate. The coat is especially bad compared to the original design which is very young and stylish. She takes stylish designer looks and turn them into bland version of hers.

I agree and the CW coat is gorgeous. I never have an issue with the Duchess wearing colour.
I'd forgotten that the national colors of Australia are green and gold. It was very thoughtful to honor that in the capital city.
Sorry, AyVey, but that picture of the coat made me laugh--I think it got squashed in posting, and the model's proportions are distorted. If Kate had worn the coat like that, there would have been gasps and groans (and secret delight) from the Kate-complaining section. The zipper open like that---well---even if she had worn a long cami or light dress under it, it would look ridiculous on a duchess. It might be great for a young celebrity, but as many point out, Kate is royal, and must look more formal.
As for the reference to the order of st. patrick, I assume that was intended to be lighthearted. But if falls off the mark, since nuns are always modest and self-effacing in dress, and would never wear that bold a color. Some religious Catholics might find that remark offensive.
There are also many religious Catholics who have a great sense of humor, I know many... The reference was lighthearted and I stand by my remark, boring dress suited for a nun... Not all nuns wear habits... Is green her favorite color?

'Approachable, modern and not dictated by fashion': Australian designers give their verdict on Kate's Royal tour outfits
QuoteAustralia's top fashion designers have heaped huge praise on the Duchess of Cambridge's Royal tour wardrobe - despite her snubbing all but one of them.
Classic designer Carla Zampatti - who has met the Queen, Prince Philip, Prince Edward, Prince Charles and Diana - applauded Kate's 'wonderful taste' and the fact she was a 'hard working royal', as she attended a reception for the Royal couple at Parliament House, Canberra.
Ms Zampatti even went so far as to label the 32-year-old 'the best promotion of the fashion industry' she can think of.

IMHO the posters at Sartorial Splendor really just focus upon the fashion and most of the long time posters have seen it all by now. Too tight pants on various Crown Princesses, seriously ugly and bizarre color selections and a host of complaints about shoes. Based upon what I've read, Kate doesn't make the top ten when it comes to fashion disasters. She tends to stick to her tried and true without any attempts to try anything really daring.

Going off topic, but it is rare to see an American nun in a habit these days. We were visiting my father-in-law in the hospital and a nun entered the elevator with me and my two young children. She asked us where we were headed and when I replied I used the word "sister." She exited at the next floor and my then four year old daughter wanted to know why I called the lady in the blue dress and veil my "sister." She'd never seen a nun in a habit before.
Strictly speaking, a nun is cloistered within a monastery and wears a habit, usually black. A sister takes the same vows, except for cloistering, and lives and works "in the world". That said, except for very religious Roman Catholics, most people don't distinguish between the two (I don't). I worked with six or seven sisters, and none of them wore habits. Skirt and blouse, and sometimes, slacks and casual tops. But I can't remember ever seeing any of them in brightly-colored clothing. The colors that they wore were either black or navy blue, or an almost faded version of other colors.
Cindy
I think her outfits have been nice on this tour-but they scream out for some " Royal" jewellery
And her shoes need to be lower and the wedges burnt
A nun would never wear a coat tailored with stitching details specifically placed to emphasize her figure. Neither would nuns wear so bold a green as that color.
I also have known many nuns, and agree they have senses of humor. But many Catholics would resent joking about that coat being appropriate for a nun. It isn't. Of course I know nuns today wear normal, modest clothing, Never a coat like Kate's. I stand by my comments.
I agree, TLLK, that Kate has worn colors that honor Australia. Any observers criticizing her color choices should wonder more about why Australia's national colors are green and gold. In my opinion, she is very thoughtful about what she wears. Some observers will criticize whatever she wears.

Well, I work with Catholic charities and have spent my school and College years around nuns, they are not all cloistered, dear God, and they don't all wear habits... This dress is, to me, gorgeous. it is one of the few items of clothing in this Tour that I have liked, I love it, actually. The shoes are not complementary, too bland and shapeless, appropriate but not the best for that dress...
Limabeany, there are also extremists and people lacking a sense of humor who dislike Kate intensely, and criticize every outfit she wears and everything she does. I prefer to look at the happy side of life, and shrug at things I don't care for. I don't feel the need to publicly put anyone down. And I'm very, very glad people aren't always looking at me!! They'd find plenty to criticize. Plenty.

Okay. I worked for my local Diocese for five years; just retired from there a couple of years ago. Next door to our building was the Carmelite Monastery. Sometimes the nuns would be outside working in their garden, but for the most part, we never saw them, but they were always dressed in black.
QuoteAnother distinguishing mark of nuns is that they live a contemplative, cloistered life in a monastery. "Cloistered" refers to living within the confines of the monastery behind the "papal enclosure." Nuns are permitted to leave the cloister only under special circumstances and with the proper permission. Moreover, visitors are not be permitted to enter into the cloistered area.

Whether this one or that is my taste, well, I can separate that ...I mean, all of her dresses seem well fitted, no dress fly-ups, good lengths, appropropriate in colors, fabric, etc.
Wedges...I am ify on that. She is a young woman of 31. Wedges are heels, but safe heels.
I think this tour has been her best, consistent looks.
Hair. There are more ways to wear her hair than just hanging down. The pinned back look . Easy. Youthful. Classy. Much better than the hair blowing -in-the -wind look and frizzed look.
Negative opinion of mine.
Pantsuits or slacks w/ coordinating blouses would have nice, more pratical for some things like the zoo trip. The mountain trip.
^^^I completely agree regarding pants for the trip.

I agree about the hair (more updos please!) but disagree about the best looks on this tour. I think her best outfits (and hair) was in Canada. Come back, James Pryce!

Cindy
Kind of off topic but thanks for that bit of trivia!! I went to catholic school and didn't realize that! All the nuns that taught at my school wore black habits, though I would occasionally see them in "street clothes" around town.
^^ You're welcome, Jenee. They wore heavy black habits when I was in Catholic school, too. Back then, they hadn't started wearing "civilian" clothing yet, and I used to wonder how they didn't completely melt in the hot sun during the summers. :D

My overall thoughts on Kate's wardrobe are that the tour over all was a miss for me. Canada was much better, as was SE Asia, but I felt like Australia/NZ lacked cohesiveness. In Canada, there were a lot of sheath dresses, and navy blue. Her hair was glossy and chocolate brown.
My favorite look was the Jenny Peckham cocktail dress. But I have many dislikes: the pink McQueen (too low), the Catherine Walker (too many buttons) or both the Roksanda Ilincic dresses (yellow too bright; brown too drab).
I would have liked to see Kate wear more NZ/Aussie designers. I don't understand why she wore so many American ones (Tory Burch, Michael Kors, Lela Rose). Maybe she packed for the wrong tour?

I hope they didn't forget her £13,000 charm necklace!
I didn't pay much attention ... when did she wear the necklace? If it was £13,000, they've neglected to add it in. They've got a picture of each outfit that she wore, with prices of everything underneath each picture. But surely they're off, anyway ... wasn't there a rumor that she was having a £60,000 formal dress made? And there's another article out there that claims her "fashion show" was worth £38,000. They're all guessing.

Kate adores the stylish stainless steel £3,600 Ballon Bleu de Cartier watch, which is embedded with a sapphire stone to match her Princess Diana engagement ring, and made sure she wore it every day of the tour.
The brand carries a special significance for the couple. Princess Diana wore a yellow gold Cartier watch and had one engraved for William as a birthday gift, which remains one of his most treasured possessions.
Like the rest of the world, Kate appreciates her wonderful legs. But the 'Duchess of Decorum' was certainly not planning to reveal so much flesh within seconds of her arrival on Antipodean soil.
Her decision not to insert weights into the hems of her outfits came back to haunt her when the breeze caught her coat on landing in Wellington, and plans are afoot to make sure this Marilyn Monroe moment does not happen again.
The Duchess's trusted wedges also raised eyebrows. When she arrived at Manly beach, aides had a pair of flat pumps at the ready, but Kate prefers to measure up alongside her 6ft 3in husband and left them in the car.
Not so clever. Images of Kate running to the surf in a Baywatch moment overshadowed her visit to Manly's Bear Cottage hospice – the most important engagement of the tour for the Duchess and where she chose to give her only speech.
The Duchess's devotion to natural skin products meant she also came a cropper in the heat: she declined to use insect repellent on her face at Ayers Rock and as a result the flies were relentless.
One landed right on the tip of her nose during a photocall. 'They were all coming for us,' she joked afterwards.
Kate's haircuts down under cost her around £6,000 – the fee her personal hairdresser Amanda Cook Tucker was paid, not including travel.
She normally charges £150 a cut and blow dry but a friend revealed: 'Amanda charged twice what she normally does because this tour was so far away and so long.'
But for Kate, it was worth every penny, as she showcased new styles including a demi French roll in Christchurch, and a loop ponytail and an elegant low chignon for a state reception in Canberra.
Critics pointed out that the pins were visible – a real no-no – but Kate was thrilled with the mature styles.
QuoteThe Duchess of Cambridge is still the queen of wardrobe recycling as her 19-day Royal tour comes to an end - despite a coat dress worth £1,500 ($2,521 US, $2716.51 AU) becoming part of her envied clothing collection.
By refashioning favourite items such as her Stuart Weitzman cork wedges, navy Zara blazer and scarlet Luisa Spagnoli suit, Kate holds on to her thrifty throne.
The cheapest dress she wore while visiting New Zealand and Australia cost a mere £35 ($58 US, $63 AU), thanks to a sale at Hobbs in 2012.

Hopefully next time the gust of wind will really show her front undies or whole backside.

None of us particularly care about her, but it just shows that it can, and does, happen to people who don't expect it to happen, and that the media is just as happy to show both. I doubt either the lady or Kate dressed that day with the intention of letting the wind lift their skirts.

A wide ranging interview so I just quoted the bit on the Duchess of Cambridge
QuoteEnglish born and bred, Bowles moved to New York in the 90s, accepting Anna's job offer at US Vogue. "The street style is livelier in London", he tells me, "There seems to be a lot of young designer energy there. It's more like Brooklyn than NYC. But I'm also very excited by the Upper East Side groomed fashion that you see here". He does explain, however, how over the years the differences between the two cities have somewhat eroded, making them more similar in terms of fashion style. I ask his opinion of the Duchess of Cambridge: "Kate Middleton's style is absolutely appropriate in every way and thoughtfully considered".

First, you have read Vogue, no? Do you really think that is a magazine whose editor would be enamoured with Kate's style? :happy15: Second, Anna Wintour had been campaigning to get Kate Middleton on the cover, that was all over the news. Third, have you seen his own clothes?? Fourth, no one who thinks they have a chance of her picking their clothes or choosing them for a photoshoot would criticize her style, those who do, do it very carefully as a whisper almost and more as a suggestion of what she should try... No one really dares... :teehee:
I'm not sure what your point is, but my point is why is it when a designer appreciates Kate's style, he/she isn't going to say anything else and has to be careful with her and no one really dares...? But when a designer doesn't like Kate's style and says so, he/she is just stating an opinion? IMO, we either believe or disbelieve that both are sincere.
Cindy
No one in the fashion industry criticizes Kate openly unless they have no chance of her using their clothes, media, fashion designers and fashion editors tread very, very carefully with Kate...
There have been at least two, maybe three, designers who have made negative comments about Kate's style. They've all been posted here and discussed, the general consensus being that they have a right to state their opinion. I'll check the style threads; maybe the discussions are in there.

Cindy, you know very well, that is as far as anyone would go and the paper told him to put his claws out because they have anointed Kate a Saint and have to side with her fans in advance, that comment hardly merited telling him to put his claws in!
I know very well that he wasn't praising her style, and that's what we're talking about. Doesn't matter how the designer worded it, it was not praise, and how the journalist received the comments was up to him. There have been designers who've made negative comments, and maybe it's best that those designers' remarks be forgotten, after all. ;)

She dresses in a similar manner as most royal ladies when they're on the job. Dresses, skirts, and on occasion pants are the typical uniform. Many wear designs by their domestic brands. The northern European royals and the Japanese tend to still require hats for some occasions. The Middle Eastern royals and the Spanish have mostly given them up.
It's safe and predictable fashion as a rule.

Still, the post Cindy quoted as criticism... Please... :Lothwen:
It was criticism, just a passive-aggressive criticism. Obviously, he wasn't going to go on a rant.

Slip of the tongue... :happy15: No fashion designer or editor in his or her right mind can think of her as a fashion icon... :happy17:
Lady Adams-I had the pleasure of seeing other photos that had a full frontal view. Ummm it was quite revealing so to say. Thank you for sharing the photo of W-A and Max at Bea's birthday concert in 2008.

I think it's the beginning of one, because at his age he's just likely to try and eat them.

QuoteKate's Tour Wardrobe Triumphs As She Is Named Most Stylish British Icon
Kate Middleton was today voted most stylish British celebrity following her recent royal tour of Australia and New Zealand.
And she should thank the Queen, who reportedly counselled Kate on her look for the three-week trip, advising her to embrace longer hemlines and a more sophisticated style.
The Duchess, who garnered 21 per cent of the total vote, beat supermodel and fashionista Kate Moss, who scored a measly 4 per cent and A-Lister Emma Watson on 5 per cent.

As an added bonus if you can find it. Then Princess Maxima in very tight GOLD pants at her mother-in-law's birthday concert in 2008. There is a matching gold jacket. :love6:
Well, shame on her, too.
You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink :flower:
Are these the trousers you're talking about? The outfit is hideous, though hardly skin-tight:

Holy C3PO.
Maxima is quite quirky and fun in her style but I don't see her wearing jeggings marking her hoochie...

QuoteWhatever she wears turns to gold, and even a week after returning from the royal tour of New Zealand and Australia, the Duchess of Cambridge's wardrobe choices are still sending shoppers into a frenzy.
Website eBay has seen a 95 per cent rise in sales of yellow dresses - a summery hue Kate championed twice during the 19-day trip.
Arriving in sunny Sydney wearing a striking, canary-yellow pencil dress by Roksanda Ilincic, Kate looked every inch the immaculate fashionista - and nothing like a banana, whatever the Duke of Cambridge might have thought.

right cause no one would buy a yellow dress in the spring without being inspired by Kate
why do they do this - they really think we are dumb the tabloids don't they?
:happy15:
I painted my living room beige 6 years ago.......because of Kate.
I wore a yellow sweater at Easter........because of Kate.
It is all because of Kate!!!!
Next you will be wearing open toed wedges to the beach and flimsy skirts to windy places, but for now, baby steps, Macrobug, baby steps... :monkey2:
I was on the Stuart Weitzman website for a suspiciously long time with my finger hovering over the buy button. It was like some mysterious force had hold of me.....can't....resist.....must......buy.......GAH!
As I read your post the Mission Impossible theme music played in my mind...
If the force from the 'Kate effect" can control me this far into the Canadian Wilderness, I imagine it must be devastating for you Brits :hehe:
I owned wedges before kate was seen famously wearing them after the reception in 2012 , she didn't create the trend and I agree with this who say designer dresses are made in smaller numbers many people noted this right back in 2011 itself and mentioned it but at the time the press pushed the idea of her making everything sell out .
I like Kate's style pre marriage after her wedding she has started dressing a bit too old for her age imo.

Honestly, I am seeing the sleeves on the first dress and the collar on the dress zippered up to the neck, and aside from the women rushing to buy what she wears so they can say to themselves they look like a princess, I don't see her clothes becoming trends, many are really boring... And the selection here, except for the yellow and the one with flowers are quite the opposite of what would make normal women look good... :orchid:
