There are more. Apparently Juan Carlos of Spain will be there, escorting his wife to the birthday reception. The Spanish Court has just announced it. Wonder how she likes that? She would have been happier if her son was a guest I'm sure. Aren't Felipe and Leti in Peru on an official visit?  I still think the Greeks will turn up so that will be some comfort.

Also Henri and Maria Teresa of Luxembourg will be guests as well. Just been announced. Maybe they are doubling up and visiting Gui and Stephanie in London at the same time.

Yes the King and Queen are in Peru now. Wow who would have thought that TM JC and S would attend another event together?
Glad to see that the GD and GDss will be there.

The Bulgarian Royal couple will be present, but not the Romanians. Apparently Margerita of Romania made  a long telephone call to Charles congratulating him on his birthday and he will meet Prince Radu in London before Xmas.

CPss Marie Chantal and Princess Theodora of Greece have shared pictures of London on their Instagrams, so I think the Greeks are definitely gathering for the birthday.

I would imagine that since Juan Carlos Is a cousin of the queen's he was likely to come and he and Sofia do stll do occasional things together....

What a fabulous night it must be for all the attendees. What a shame that there couldn't be a few photos taken showing the women's gowns. The Norwegians were the only ones we saw full length. They might release a group photo of the royals together in a few weeks as with King Harald's 80th birthday.

We saw hair and jewellery in the cars and that was it, really. See, I just love the way the Scandis do it, where cameras are allowed in on keynote birthdays so everyone can enjoy the fun. Love Kate and Meghan's looks tonight, and the Queen's speech was heartwarming. It is unusual and lovely to have a son of that age and be there to toast his birthday.

Juan Carlos is a second cousin once removed of Elizabeth. There's a closer relationship for Elizabeth and Philip with his wife Sophia in both her maternal and paternal lines. Juan Carlos hasn't been seen with his wife for months and that's par for the course with them.

"So this toast is to wish a happy birthday to my son, in every respect a duchy original.

"To you Charles. To the Prince of Wales.? QEII's toast to her eldest son on his 70th birthday.

The Queen gives a toast at The Prince of Wales' 70th Birthday party | The Royal Family

QuoteIt is a privilege for any mother to be able to propose a toast to her son on his 70th birthday," Her Majesty said."It means that you have lived long enough to see your child grow up. It is rather like ?to use an analogy I am certain will find favour ? planting a tree and being able to watch it grow.

"My mother saw me turn 70, of course. And she was heard to observe that 70 is exactly the age when the number of candles on your cake finally exceeds the amount of breath you have to blow them out.

"Over his 70 years, Philip and I have seen Charles become a champion of conservation and the arts, a great charitable leader ? a dedicated and respected heir to the throne to stand comparison with any in history ? and a wonderful father.

"Most of all, sustained by his wife Camilla, he is his own man, passionate and creative. "So this toast is to wish a happy birthday to my son, in every respect a duchy original.

"To you Charles. To the Prince of Wales.?

Interestingly, a little side note here, Cepe Smith, whose Twitter Page I follow, became intrigued by the provenance of the rather grand earrings Meghan wore tonight. A poster there suggested that these might be on the mark.

Princess Marina?s Girandole Earrings | The Royal Watcher

If they were Marina's then I would say that most probably the earrings were bought at auction by Charles in 2000 for Camilla. I can't see the Queen wanting more jewellery at that date (they aren't her style anyway,) and so they've been long-term loaned by Camilla to Meghan.

Some royals, including Prince Albert (probably sans Charlene) leave the party. Some look a bit glum. Maybe they're tired?  :D

More royals leaving. Poor old Irene of Greece looks like Sophia's grandmother. Still, I think Sophia would rather have her beside her than hubby!

Philip's looking very frail. Wonder whether he stayed till the end, whenever the end was. Midnight?

Yes, I saw that! Did King Juan Carlos arrive in a separate car?

Prince Philip, 97, spotted leaving birthday celebrations for Prince Charles | Daily Mail Online

I'm so happy that Prince Philip made it to the event, it would have been sad if you did not attend.

TLLK

@dianab-I have not seen any photos of the Danish CP couple yet. I'm hoping that there will be a group photo released, but those are rare with the BRF. The last time I saw one of QEII with a group of foreign royals was the luncheon for her diamond jubilee.

TBH I don't believe that those are the same pair of earrings. It appears that Marina's are heavier towards the bottom. I believe that Meghan is wearing the pair that she wore recently on tour.

Curryong

Yes, I took another look at them after I posted and I agree as do posters on another forum. The mystery remains, who lent them. My guess is probably Cam, simply because she has so much jewellery that 'giving' one pair wouldn't make any difference to her. Plus, she has sets in many different styles. So, either Cam or a commercial jeweller!

Lots of people are praying for a group shot to be released in the next couple of weeks. The BRF are so lousy about that sort of thing (and about tiara events.) It was really lovely to see the way that King Harald of Norway's 80th was organised and how Ingrid Alexandra and her brother acted as 'interviewers' and moved around all the tables with a mike. (She asked Beatrix of the Netherlands a question in English which Beatrix answered.) And what do we get with the British? Tiaras once in a blue moon and absolutely private key birthdays. It stinks, IMO.
