Princess Amalia sits for final exams ? Royal Central

Princess Amalia of the Netherlands, the eldest child of King Willem-Alexander and Queen M?xima, is busy with her final exams like many other Dutch students.

The 17-year-old Princess of Orange began her exams on Monday and will find out on 10 June if she passed.

Her parents were at the National Park Maasduinen for an engagement, and the King was asked how his daughter was doing with her tests. The King said: ?We keep our fingers crossed. Keep your fingers crossed; it never hurts.?

Amalia was asked about her upcoming exams during King?s Day in April. She said then that she felt she was in ?good? shape. She also said: ?It is a lot of learning and learning, and I hope they will ask questions that I have learned.?

The Princess of Orange currently attends Christelijk Gymnasium Sorghvliet in The Hague alongside her two younger sisters, Princess Alexia, 15 and Princess Ariane, 14.

Princess Amalia graduates high school with distinction ? Royal Central

Princess Amalia, the heir to the Dutch throne, has graduated high school at the highest level in the Netherlands with distinction. This means that she scored an 8 out of 10 or higher for every subject. Like her younger sisters, she attended the Christelijk Gymnasium Sorghvliet.

Princess Amalia announced the news herself through the official Twitter account of the Dutch Royal House. She wrote, ?I have just received a telephone call that I have graduated! I would like to congratulate everyone else who graduated and wish all the other students lots of luck with potential resits and the second time period. ? A.? Most high school students in the Netherlands receive a personal phone call from a teacher or mentor to inform them whether or not they have passed their exams and have thus graduated.

I am still having a hard time realizing several of the next generation princesses have finished high school or close. :wub:

It will be a different year for Arianne in the fall. With Amalia off traveling/internships on a gap year. And Alexia off to Wales for boarding school. Definitely changes in the family.

Until she has finished her studies, the Princess of Orange will renounce the annual allowance of 1,6 million Euros (to which she?s entitled from the day she will turn 18), the Dutch government announced today.

The future Queen will turn 18 on December 7.

The allowance, which is determined by law, has been the subject of a lot of discussion in the Netherlands from quite some time.
Many people think the allowance is very high for a young girl.

It is a smart move in that she is taking a gap year.  That much money and travelling for a year isn?t  good optics.  Yes, she will be volunteering etc but also goofing off. 

Her family has money.  She will not suffer.

A very sensible choice.  :flower3: There was a lot of talk and anger about her getting so much money when still in school.

It couldn't be withheld from her as its law so this seems the best compromise. Everyone is happy.

As I understand if she does undertake any royal responsibilities while in school, she can use the money to cover the costs of them. But otherwise will return the rest of the funds.

I don't think anyone has an issue with her taking a gap year. Its pretty common over there. And having some fun and not just work on it. But yes the optics of that kind of money at her disposal for it would be bad.

I agree that this was the wisest decision for her to make. Amalia knows that she has at least 3-4 years of university and then perhaps some military service to complete before she takes up full time royal duties.

On the occasion of Princess Catharina-Amalia?s 18th birthday, a new book will be published to introduce the future Queen to a broader audience.

Author, comedian and singer Claudia de Breij has written the book, simply called ?Amalia?, in cooperation with the Princess. Over the summer of 2021, Claudia and Princess Catharina-Amalia met several times. They spoke about her time at school, her love for music, and what becoming Queen and her future role mean to her. Princess Catharina-Amalia even brought the author to the royal stables to speak about her passion for horses. The book will also contain photos from the Princess? private archive.

Princess Catharina-Amalia could marry a woman and be queen, says Dutch Prime Minister ? Royal Central

After questions were raised following the publication of a book, the Dutch Prime Minister has confirmed that Princess Catharina-Amalia could marry a woman and retain her right to the throne.

Same-sex marriage has been legal in the Netherlands since 2001, but the book questioned if this would apply to the crown as there would have to be an heir to the throne. Prime Minister Mark Rutte wrote in response to questions from his own party, ?The cabinet does not see that an heir to the throne or the king should abdicate if he or she would like to marry a partner of the same sex.? However, the book does not actually speculate about the Princess? personal life.

?It?s frightfully complicated,? Mark Rutte explained. The Dutch constitution says that the monarch can only be succeeded by a ?lawful descendant.? However, he added that this was all purely theoretical at this stage and said, ?Let?s cross that bridge if we come to it.?

A royal marriage does need the approval of parliament, and there have been some instances in the royal family where members have given up their place in the line of succession to marry someone without seeking permission or because it seemed likely that permission would be denied. For example, the marriage of the late Prince Friso to Mabel Wisse Smit went ahead without approval from parliament.

On December 8th - a day after her birthday- the princess will be installed in the Counsil of State (Raad van State). The princess will be accompanied to the ballroom of Kneuterdijk palace by the king.

Speeches will be made by the princess of Orange, by the chairman of the counsil (the King) and by the vice-chairman, Mr. Thom de Graaf.

Yes it's the DM but they have an advanced copy of Amalia's biography which reveals a few things about the future Queen of the Netherlands ie: She worked part time in a cafe.

The Princess of Orange is currently on her gap year since completing her secondary school studies in 2021.

By the way Daily Mail,  that is NOT a toy crown on a young Amalia's head .

Amalia, 17, said she would ask her Argentine-born mother, Queen Maxima, 50, to step in temporarily if her father, King Willem-Alexander, 54, were to die suddenly.

'But I said to my father: you just keep on eating healthy and exercising a lot,' the teenage princess added.

The biography, simply titled 'Amalia', was written with the approval of the Royal Family to mark Amalia's 18th birthday on December 7.

Princess Catharina-Amalia introduced in the Council of State ? Royal Central

The Princess of Orange, Princess Catharina-Amalia, has been introduced in the Council of State. As she is now 18 years old, the Dutch Constitution gives the heir to the throne an automatic place in the Council. Her father, who is the president of the Council of State, led her introduction. Her mother, Queen M?xima, was also present.

King Willem-Alexander and Princess Catharina-Amalia arrived in the first car, with Queen M?xima following close behind in a second car. Father and daughter walked arm in arm as they entered the former royal palace, which now houses the Council of State. He then led her into the ballroom, where other members of the Council were waiting. Once seated, the King opened the meeting to introduce his daughter.

After a short speech by the King in his role as President, Princess Catharina-Amalia also held a speech. She opened with a joke, calling her father, ?President, if I may, just this once.? She quoted her grandmother Princess Beatrix who promised to be a good student in the Council of State.

After the meeting, Princess Catharina-Amalia planted a tree in the French garden behind the building and she received a fountain pen as a gift to remember the day. The tree had been pre-planted for her, as it was a bit too large but she symbolically added more soil. The engagement ended with a few questions from the press.

Earlier she received her personal standard and two orders to celebrate her 18th birthday and coming of age.

Princess Amalia of the Netherlands has come of age, and to mark the occasion, the future Queen of the Netherlands? first standard has been revealed by the Government Information Service (RVD).

Her cut standard is the traditional orange with a Nassau blue cross that divides the flag into four sections. The Royal Coat of Arms is in the centre with the coat of arms of the House of Orange in the upper left corner. The coat of arms of the Zorreguieta family (Queen M?xima?s Argentine family) feature in the lower left area. The standard can be viewed here.

Princess Amalia?s younger sisters, Princesses Alexia and Ariane, will each receive a standard when they turn 18. King Willem-Alexander ordered the creation of the standards on 24 November.

This was not the only honour for the Princess of Orange announced on 7 December.

King Willem-Alexander also made Amalia a Knight of the Order of the Golden Lion of Nassau on her birthday by a Royal Decree. This is a joint order between the Dutch monarch and Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg, as the order is shared by the two branches of the House of Nassau, which reign over the Netherlands and Luxembourg.

Amalia?s father also issued a Royal Decree on 24 November that made her a Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the Netherlands Lion. This is a tradition for the heir to the Dutch throne and their siblings. Since Queen Wilhemenia, all children of the head of state have been bestowed the honour on their 18th birthdays. Princesses Alexia and Ariane will also receive the order when they come of age.
