She isn't even ten yet, and already a huge responsibility falls on the small shoulders of the Netherlands' Princess Amalia.

On April 30, the youngster will be styled as the new Princess of Orange, and become the heir to the Dutch throne when her father is inaugurated as William IV of Holland. Her future, and that of her father, has been brought sharply into focus following the abdication of her grandmother, Queen Beatrix.

Even the hypothetical birth of a male sibling wouldn't change the order of succession, given that women have had equal rights to the throne in the Netherlands since 1983.

Holland's 1st Princess of Orange

Princess Catherina-Amalia - Amalia for short - is one signature away from becoming the Netherlands' first ever Princess of Orange, the title given to the heir of the throne. Amalia, 9, is the eldest daughter of King-in-waiting Willem-Alexander.

Upon the abdication of her grandmother Queen Beatrix, set for 30 April 2013, she will automatically become 'The Princess of Orange' or in Dutch, 'De Prinses van Oranje.

I hope she can handle it.

I think she can since there is one other person in her life who can help her. Her God Mother Crown Princess Victoria who became heir apparent at the age of three. However her family seems to be very close and her father, mother and sisters will truly support her.
