As the autumn chill takes hold, we take a look back on the warm summer days and the Royal Garden Party.

Grab some tea and cake and for a few minutes imagine yourself in the warmth of the sun at Buckingham a Palace.

The first of the season took place on 13 May at Buckingham Palace and attended by The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall.

It was during this party; Her Majesty commented on the birth of Princess Charlotte, who was born 11 days prior. "Yes, we love to have another girl," The Queen told one of the guests as they offered congratulations on the latest royal addition.

With a minimum of three parties scheduled at Buckingham Palace and one at Holyroodhouse, approximately 30,000 people partake in enjoying tea and cakes and a garden stroll. There is also the chance to catch a glimpse of Her Majesty or a member of the Royal Family in attendance that day.

On duty during the parties at Buckingham Palace is the Yeoman of the Guard, Gentlemen at Arms and Gentlemen Ushers. The Royal Company of Archers and the High Constables of the Palace are on duty during the party at Holyroodhouse

Since the 1860s, Garden Parties have taken place at Buckingham Palace.

Queen Victoria began the tradition known as 'breakfasts,' even though the occur in the afternoon.
