Interestingly, this section extracted from the Protection of Harassment Act 1997 could, in theory, apply to any celebrity or persons in the public eye who are being pursued by photographers.  If it were to be heeded by the photographers on this occasion it would need to be heeded by photographers in all aspects of celebrity based photography. I don't see it sticking.

And there they are, they had extra tickets and invited Charlie Gilkes and his girlfriend.  As you can see they are in the midst of a crowd of people.  Pippa waved, but so did other people.  I still consider this no big deal.

Completely agree. For all the cynicism and questions about her social-climbing, there's little to deny her ambition and drive. I certainly commend her for taking on this challenge - it's no mean feat!

This isn't the first time she has raised money for charities using this site.  A couple years back I remember her using this for the skiing race.

This race hits the news every year.  It is brutal! 

I'll have to consider using that site for the 2015 London Marathon.

350-500 miles per day for eight days is beyond gruelling imo.  I hope she and every other participant manages to complete the task.

Funnily enough I was reading an article in this months' Womens Health magazine which suggests that marathons, triathlons and all of these endurance races are the new indicator of a mid-life crisis with figures showing that 30-45-year-olds are the most active participants. :teehee:

That age group have been shocked into realizing that the metabolism that they had as kids and teens is gone.  Nothing like the scales going up and iffy bloodwork results to motivate some people into a fitness routine.

A friend of mine used to be a 250lbs teddybear that lived on the sofa.  He got into biking as a way to lose weight.  He is now a very lean 175lbs and just completed his 3rd IronMan.   And yes, in his late 30s.  His idea of a fun Sunday is to go for a 100km bike ride.

The fitness/weight-loss benefits are certainly mentioned in the article, although the focus is primarily on that particular age group (30-45) needing to feel like they're achieving something new... an outlet for personal success.  The article suggests that from 30+ people are more settled and steady and so begin looking for new challenges (in the form of athleticism).  I wonder if Pippa Middleton views these events as an outlet for success and achievement?  Could be.

I was skeptical, but Pippa impresses me with her volunteer work. It can't be easy for her to carve out a future for herself, but she's handling herself better than I would've expected.

It did cross my mind as to whether Pippa embarks on ambassador roles and charitable events out of a genuine humanitarian passion or whether it is more of an acceptable "pursuit" for the sister of the Duchess of Cambridge. James is participating in the event also and so the same question applies to him. I'm not necessarily saying I'm attaching these motivations to the endeavours, but rather just considering them in passing.  Either way, a charity is benefiting and Pippa and James are pursuing a personal accomplishment so everyone wins. 

God I really like Pippa! She is my favorite Middleton after Mike. At this point she is doing more charitable work then her sister and there is no denial that she is ambitious, hard working, honest about her goals and have a get up and get things done attitude in her. Looks like Carole might have transferred all her hard work and drive to only child that is Pippa.

I admire her work in doing physical feats for charity (remember the cross country skiing event a few years ago?)

And I like the charities she's chosen.  Solid charities w/solid goals.  No fluff.

But its not going to take long (a couple of seconds really) for her to surpass the charitable work of Someone Who Shall Not be Named when it is her job to perform charitable work.

Apparently,  her bike was laser cut  to her figure by measuring thousands of points on her body.

I like the Middletons. My kind of people. Pippa is looking fit in her cycling kit as well.

They have made it to Tuba City, AZ.  They have gone about 650 miles so far.  Averaging about 19 miles an hour.  Their team is in the middle of the pack.

I've been impressed with the ventures Pippa has pursued and the charity work she has been undertaking. She appears to be driven and ambitious, and used the publicity which she received post wedding to develop herself, her career, use her profile to gain publicity for worthy causes and to give back to the community through charity work.

They're expected to hit Alamosa, CO, the 18th time station in about an hour.   They are 1000 miles in: 1/3 of the way.  Still in the middle of the pack.  And still average 19 miles an hour.  YEAH!! :yesss:

I do not even want to think about what it will be like going over the Rockies - good for all the competitors!

Interesting info how they split into 2 groups of 4 then each group took 6 hour shifts.  Plus when not on shift biking they had to drive.  She stated that they were lucky to get 3 hours of sleep at a time.  I read somewhere else that they would bike for 30 min at a time then switch.  So that would work out to 30 minutes of biking then 1.5 hour rest and repeat two more times.  Then 6 hours off and repeat.   So about 90 minutes of biking every 12 hours for a total of 3 hours every day.  So Pippa biked about 20 hours total over 6.5 days.

No way I could do that  :wacko:

A grueling experience!  But pretty amazing and praise-worthy for all of them.

Thanks for that report Macrobug!  I notice that there have been a lot of comments around the web to the effect that this was not a difficult race (huh?) since they were racing in shifts.  Also a lot of comments that Pippa probably just rode in the car etc.

I think the interview you published made it quite clear how hard it really was!

I can't believe that people would actually think that she just goofed off.  :wacko:  As if they would drag a deadweight across the country that wasn't contributing to such a grueling race.

Say what you like about Pippa.  In this case she comes out smelling like roses. 

That is crazy. And, IMO, undeserved, people grow up and grow into the situations that come their way and the doors that open, others remain stuck in a loop, but I think Pippa is of the former, I like what she is doing with herself and that she seems to be very actively doing what makes her happy which will ultimately lead her into a very happy and fulfilled life, I think she is very fortunate and is enjoying the fruits of her good fortune gracefully. Not everyone has a path or mission in life they want to follow since childhood (as awesome as that is) most of us are finding our way and I cannot find any fault with how she is going about it. Same here.  But I think in my case too much sofa time playing on the internet. :computer:   I was chatting with a friend who is a hardcore cyclist.  (He does ironman and triathlons 4 or 5 times a year)  He said that a major goal for any biker is to hit the century club - a 100 mile bike ride.  Even though it was broken up into shifts, for Pippa to do FOUR century rides in less than a week was a major accomplishment.  He does 100 mile rides for a workout and he doesn't think he could do the RAAM.

In London times is 8:18am but her wedding ceremony start at 11:30am like Duchess of Cambridge in 2011..

You know rules don't spit out on Pippa's wedding gowns till her unveiling of her big day kept zip it but Pippa's wedding gowns will have two one for ceremony and receptions also..

I think Pippa looked lovely. Though I'm no fan of lots of lace this gown was equisite. The filmy veil and little headpiece equally so. Very restrained. The little attendants were lovely though the little bridesmaids dresses could have been just a wee bit longer.

James Meade, Tom Van Straubenzee and Roger Federer were guests. No sign of Meghan. Kate wore an outfit which matched the attendants' sashes and helped her sister with her veil. She had a bit of trouble shepherding the little pages and bridesmaids quietly into the church.

Giles Deacon, the designer of Pippa's dress, called it a collaboration.

Now, I'm waiting for them to settle down and have a few children and to see fewer and fewer Pippa and James Middletons stories, pictures, and articles.  :teehee:

I think James and Pippa's first Christmas 2017 as a married couple won't be in Amner Hall this year.

I have seen pictures of the Mathews family Christmas and New year and I think James and Pippa (and her mom, dad and brother) will be soonish heading to Eden Rock, St. Barths.

Exactly My cousins were a lot older by say 10 years however, my sister and I both had our children at the same time and they were more like siblings than cousins and yes it is nice to have a cousin the same age to play.

The Middleton sisters look fit. The picture of Arthur's face has been blurred.  I think the only nonblurred pics of him are from international papers with their St. Bart's Christmas 2018 holiday.

Those programs are great - since children are all developing their physical selves, providing opportunities to try out their new motor skills in a fun way is great. But honestly, knowing her propensity for being active I'd have been so surprised if she hadn't done this.

Well, there are literally thousands of carol concerts held throughout the UK at Xmas time, all with the same traditional carols sung, and beautiful music. I'm sure the Middletons' local church near their home has a carol service scheduled. Or, if they want to go to one in London held for charity, some of the main churches have wonderful carol services, with full choirs and decorated buildings. Where is the church near Pippa's home? Probably within walking distance and I'm sure there are carols sung there.

The ladies have and are supporting the fundraising by attending the HVS yearly CC service.

I said that in my post. Ie, that it was 'good that they supported the cause...' I also said, if you read my post, that there are several other Carol concerts for good causes/charities that are held in the capital and elsewhere at Xmas time.

I would tend to believe that in addition to enjoying the music that they also support the fundraising portion of the event to support the schools in Uganda. :snowflake:

I also think Pippa and James are right for each other.

I think James is a pretty impressive guy. Don?t know if Pippa and James are made for one another (what does a few photos and interviews tell us about a couple ?) but they seem happy.  All the best to them and to James on this new position

James Mathews said he was in love and working hard (personally and career) to have Pippa as his wife since 10 years ago (since 2007, married 2017).

It's just a feeling, I think Pippa has the a quality that cannot be described or named easily (je ne sais quoi) factor to keep up with James Mathews status.  Not everyone can or may take the pressure of entertaining a CEO's ''book''.  i.e. in large and famous corporations, the partner is a x factor in the present and future success of that individual, smooth sailing.  Saying that, now that he is involved in the multibillion Formula 1 (F1) there will be many occasions she will have to and need to entertain several industries involved.

ETA: I know some people will think about the formidable Carole Middleton. IMO, kudos to her, she brought up well her children, at the end of the tunnel, 3 children who are thriving and have upped each one to their own their lives/livelihoods.

He certainly seems besotted.  Yes, Carole and Mike can be proud of their kids.

The trouble would be schooldays (probably Eton) if you were named Galahad or Gawain. The taunting the boy would receive would make Charles's Gordonston schooldays look like a Sunday School picnic. The Eton Wall Game would be an opportunity for a twisted arm and bloodied nose. I suppose Tristan might be acceptable if rather naff, M/C and definitely 1970s. (It was popular in Oz at that time.) The name is more likely IMO  to be something very 'in' at the moment in U/C circles like Oscar or Dante or something like that.

This is great news!  There will be a nice group of Middleton grandchildren and should make for some lively visits and holidays.  I do hope Charlotte is not the only girl, however, so I am hoping for a girl.

Somehow I don't see them staying in London as their children leave the baby and toddler stages behind, unless their current London home has a huge garden to offer. 

The Mathews are billionares, as such, they have a London Mansion and a countryside home. Except in James and Pippa's case, they have an accumulation of countryside and beach properties for weekends and holidays. These 2 are very English, they will educate their children in London and use their weekend holiday homes for leisure and rest.

James is factually (already registered and official) the CEO of Eden Rock (all properties of the family) and just recently owner of Williams Formula 1 (F1).

Nowadays, with Zoom calls etc it's not necessary to spend all week in London on business if you don't have to. Pippa married a very wealthy man and usually very wealthy men (or their relatives' CEO if it's joint family money) have several homes. I can't see the Matthews educating their children in London. Arthur and any future sons will almost certainly go off to board at a public school, and they are almost all located in the countryside. Any daughters may well be going to boarding school as well.

Best of good wishes to Pippa and James on the birth of their little girl. I doubt Elizabeth was a tribute to the Queen. It?s Carole?s middle name. This little girl (I like the name Grace btw) will complete their family, I think. I can?t see Pippa having three or four children.

I love the name Grace, too.  She may surprise and have a third, but doubt she would have a fourth.  Anyway, very happy for them!

Research into parents? perspectives of pre-school physical activity behaviours undertaken by University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD) Physical Education, Sport and Physical Literacy graduate Pippa Matthews will be presented at the 4th CIAPSE Congress in Luxembourg from September 7 to 9.

Whilst studying for her Master?s, Pippa conducted high quality research that also explored the impact of introducing developmentally appropriate equipment and activities into the home.

Early childhood is a crucial time for laying the foundations of physical literacy and a healthy active life. Yet there is limited research looking in depth at parents? perspectives on pre-school physical activity behaviours and the role of the home environment in promoting it. Pippa, who will graduate this week with a distinction, was able to bring a unique perspective to the study as a parent and scholar and a passion for the work that was informed by her own experiences with a young family.

Pippa said: ?I am passionate about sport and exercise and also love being with children. I wanted to find a topic that combined these two and felt that there wasn?t enough information, knowledge or focus on early years physical development for mums particularly. I wanted to learn to not only help my own children but to also continue work in the field to stress the importance of children moving from an early age.?

Pippa?s study involved interviewing 24 parents over two phases which generated a wealth of rich qualitative data. The theoretical underpinning of her research was the Social Ecological Model giving rise to analysis of data at several levels of the child, parent, family, and home environments. Using the Social Ecological Model, the analysis highlighted the multi-faceted and complex factors influencing pre-schoolers? physical activity behaviours, and the pivotal role that parents play in supporting physical literacy.

The couple recently snapped up a 30-room Georgian mansion in Berkshire for GBP15 million, near to where Pippa, 38, and her sister, the Duchess of Cambridge, 40, grew up in Bucklebury. The new home should comfortably accommodate their growing family, third child Rose was born last month.

The Matthews are probably thinking ahead to where the children will attend school now and wanted to make the move at this stage in their lives.

I am sorry but its ridiculous to think David is going to leave his fortune to one kid. He has three children.

He isn't some grand duke with a fancy estate and title to pass on. Rich men have managed to leave estates to children for centuries. He has three children, three homes, and several succesful businesses. No reason to think because Pippa is the sister of a duchess, her husband is going to inherit everything and his brother and sister 'will settle for doing charity work'.

This is not the royal family. There isn't the heir who inherits it all, and the spare happy for scraps and 'patronages'.

That is absolutely right. David is in fact close to his daughter Nina Mackie, who lives much of the time in Switzerland and is or was married to a billionaire businessman herself. She has several children.

It?s ridiculous to think that David would even think of cutting his oldest child and his youngest surviving son out of the picture when he passes, let alone leave nothing to his widow, to whom he?s been married for many decades. James will get his share of David Matthews? estate, nothing more, nothing less.

We don?t know that the late Queen and PP didn?t leave millions in trust funds to their younger children and grandchildren. And in fact that is what more and more genuinely aristo families are doing with their wealth nowadays. The Matthews are no aristocrats and are not bound by the rules of royal families.

Not really, 1 of 20 in the UK pay the Inheritance Tax, which is 40% of the total value of assets. The other 19 make trust funds for their children and assets go intact to the eldest.

So the assets have to be over GBP 350,000. If you give equal share to the children, the Inheritance Tax to pay is GBP 140,000.  And GBP 210,000 of the sell of the asset (i.e. the house of your parents) is divided between 2 or more children.

If your assets are less than GBP 349, 999 then you don't have to pay the government the inheritance tax.

David is a resident of Jersey and in Switzerland which are both tax havens. And I can pretty well guarantee that James won?t be getting 99% of Matthews? assets after David?s death, while Spencer and Nina are left with scraps.

For a start, Jane Matthews is still alive, read years ago that she is a director of all David?s companies, and she has to be taken care of first. We will see whether James gets all the assets in the future to do with them what he decides, by arrangements both David and Jane will have made years ago. And I can?t see it.

Some assets are classed as ?excluded property? and Inheritance Tax is not paid on them. However, the value of the assets may be brought in to calculate the rate of tax on certain exit charges and 10 year anniversary charges. Types of excluded property can include:

property situated outside the UK ? that is owned by trustees and settled by someone who was permanently living outside the UK at the time of making the settlement
government securities ? known as FOTRA (free of tax to residents abroad)
The rules governing excluded property can be complicated.

Eden roc is situated outside the UK. In fact I would bet that whatever property David Matthews still has in the UK and apart from the Scottish property it won?t be much, has been set up by a family trust years ago, with special provisions. This is not an aristocratic family where the eldest automatically inherits the lot.

One out of 20 LIVING IN THE UK. Neither David nor Jane Matthews reside in the UK. They live in Jersey and Switzerland which are not within the UK. Nina doesn?t live in the UK nor does her billionare husband though he owns British firms (with international outlets.)

I would bet my savings that Spencer and James are quite content that David is the owner, proprietor of the family property in the UK as HE IS A TAX EXILE. Therefore his property is not liable for tax after he passes. He and his wife are tax exiles living in tax havens.

If you really believe that David Matthews is so unbothered about his family?s future that he has allowed himself and/or his family to be subject to ordinary UK Inheritance Tax laws then I have a bridge to sell you. Several very wealthy Aussies (Robert Sangster for one) have settled in The Isle of Man or Jersey over the last forty years since they became tax havens and their heirs didn?t pay Death tax on any UK property. James and Spencer will undoubtedly set themselves up in the same way in the future.

And as regards the Scottish estate that James operates on behalf of his father, Scottish law operates differently to English law as far as inheritance is concerned.

Inheritance laws in the UK vary across the constituent countries. In England and Wales, there is no forced heirship, and people are free to leave their property to whomever they wish by making a last will and testament in the UK.

However, in Scotland, a surviving spouse and children have a statutory claim to parts of the estate. If the deceased had a spouse and children, both parties can receive a third each (one-third split equally between children if more than one) of the net movable assets (everything excluding property and land). Where there is only a spouse or children, their entitlement is 50% of net movable assets.

So Jane and the younger offspring could in theory claim part of the profits of the estate as it is run as a tourist resort.

The current rate of inheritance tax in Scotland on death is 40% and 20% on lifetime transfers if it is possible to charge them. In the 2021/2022 year, the first GBP 325,000 is considered the nil rate band.

The Scottish 10K acres is valued in GBP 25Million.

Facts from government 1 of 20 pay 40% death tax because they prefer to divide between 2 or more children. 19 use the inheritance tax = 0 or the very minimum, leave the asset to the eldest, bar trust funds from cash in bank.

Oh so love that dark green lace dress and with red heels no less, that a fabulous fashion statement she made, yet that pants suit just a big NO, the jecket would of looked so much better with dark pants.
