I especially like the scene of Olga, her sisters, and Alexis running on the ship's deck.
I read so much about Nicholas II and his family at one time that I tend to veer away from reading about them now. Their end was just disgustingly dreadful and sad. Even the photos and films of them in happier times doesn't help because they're just reminders of what might have been.
I find their videos so haunting. Such a lovely family.
The pictures and films of Olga and her siblings are lovely. When I see them, I do feel happy, but I also feel sad knowing they had a tragic outcome. If the White Army had recaptured Ekateringburg earlier, they would've rescue the family in time before the Bolsheviks murdered them.

In Clip One, in the beginning you see the beautiful blue eyes of Empress Alexandra.
In his book
Nicholas and Alexandra, did not Robert K. Massie make a mention of Grand Duchess Marie's eyes as "Marie's saucers"?
I agree, LouisFerdinand. Empress Alexandra does have beautiful blue eyes. She looked wonderful at her mother-in-law's (Dowager Empress Marie's) birthday party. The dress, necklaces and that tiara she wore were absolutely gorgeous.
Yes, Robert K. Massie did mention Grand Duchess Maria's eyes as her "saucers" in his book, "Nicholas and Alexandra".
QuoteGrand Duchess Olga Nikolaevna
The eldest of the four Grand Duchesses, Grand Duchess Olga Nikolaevna was born in the 3(o.s)/15th November 1895 at Tsarskoe Selo, just outside of St.Petersburg to Tsar Nicholas II and his wife, Tsarina Alexandra.
Dark blonde haired and blue eyed as described by people who knew her, Olga was easily the most intelligent of the sisters, loving to read books and she was known for her comapssionate heart and was very thoughtful. She could also be stubborn and have a bit of a temper, and could be the 'merriest of the merry'. She was also very emotional and sensitive.

In his diary, Paul Milyukov, the former Minister of Foreign Affairs, who was in Kiev in the summer of 1918, mentioned that he had talks with the Germans in which he spoke of marrying Nicholas II's daughter Olga to Grand Duke Dmitri Pavlovich in connection with a plan to create a Ukranian state protected by Germany and Russia.

^ The Tsar Nicholas and Tsarina Alexandra and their children visited England for the last time in August 1909. They sailed to Cowes on the Isle of Wight on the imperial Russian royal yacht Standart, arriving a week before the annual Yachting Regatta held there. They were greeted by most of the British Channel Fleet and King Edward and Queen Alexandra in their yacht the Victoria and Albert. The evenings were filled with parties, splendid banquets and balls held on the two yachts. Osborne House, Queen Victoria's old home, was not how the Tsarina remembered it, as Edward had given it to the Royal Navy as a training facility.

^ Germany was facing The Last Push in the late summer of 1918 however, which, along with bread riots in German cities, would lead to the Armistice of November 1918. Germany would, under the Treaty of Versailles, have never been allowed to keep troops in the Ukraine, whether it was independent or not, whether for defence or not. Russia itself was in the midst of battles between White Armies and Red which would last for years. Although the European powers were worried about the imprisonment of the Imperial family this plan was doomed anyway.

Its pictures show Nicholas II's solemn entry into Moscow on May 6, 1896. His white steed is followed by the cortège of notables on horseback.
Then came the long procession of guests: Henry of Prussia, Wilhelm II's brother; Prince Arthur, The Duke of Connaught; Nicholas of Montenegro; the Crown Princes of Greece and Romania.

^ I think this last visit was bitter-sweet for Alexandra. Yes she saw her English relatives, Uncle, Aunt etc. However, her beloved grandmother, who in some ways had taken over a mothering role to the Hesse princesses after their own mother died and was especially close to Alexandra, was no longer there, and Osborne House, which she remembered so clearly from her girlhood, was part of a naval training facility.

The Russian Orthodox Church wants another DNA examination to be done on the remains of the last Romanov family. They still are doubtful that the remains belong to the family. Even if the scientists do another test on their remains, the results will still confirm that they belong to them.
QuoteChurch to announce results of the examinations of "Yekaterinburg remains" in second quarter of 2017
The Russian Orthodox Church has announced that the results of the DNA-examinations of the "Yekaterinburg remains", or better said the remains of Emperor Nicholas II of Russia, Empress Alexandra Feodorovna and their children, will be announced in the second quarter of 2017.
"Very intensive work is going on. The genetic expertise has been held in the best world's laboratories. Very extensive and interesting anthropological expertise with principally new data is being completed, now I can't be more precise. The Anthropology Institute, coroners, anthropologists were also involved in it. There also was a historical expertise."
The final decision on the recognition or non-recognition of the remains as holy relics will be with the Council of Bishops. On 15 August 2000, Nicholas and his family were canonised as passion bearers, a title commemorating believers who face death in a Christ-like manner, by the Russian Orthodox Church within Russia.

After her own son Grand Duke George, who does Grand Duchess Maria Vladimirovna recognize as the next heir to the imperial throne?
Her grandson probably, should George and Rebecca be fortunate to have one, (and Rebecca is nearing the end of our childbearing years.) Other than that I don?t believe Maria recognises anyone not of her own line.
Maria is very fond of issuing grandiose statements about other claimants to the non-existent Russian throne but has remained quiet about her own daughter in law?s commoner status which would certainly have seen a morganatic marriage in another age.. However Maria is backed in her claims by the Russian Orthodox Church, hence the wedding ceremony in the cathedral the other day.
To me it has all the faintly ridiculous flimsy, fluffy Ruritanian nonsense of novels and musicals of a hundred years ago. George is obviously very much influenced by his mother but IMO he and his wife would have been much happier if they hadnt participated in this lifelong farce.
I?m reminded of an anecdote I read in a Rex Harrison bio. Harrison and his wife Lili were more or less forced to entertain the Duke and Duchess of Windsor when the would descend upon them in their Italian holiday home. Rex?s cook was English, a Cockney, who would never curtsey to the ex King. Harrison asked her once why not and her answer was ?I don?t curtsey to them that don?t sit on thrones!?.
And that?s my view on all these Pretenders to non existent monarchies really.
Quite frankly, I thought it was all ridiculous. The Imperial Empire exists no longer. <_<
Yes, but they are still squabbling about this non-existent throne, as the French have done in the past as well.
A family tree for those interested, lol

That was self proclaimed ?Emperor? however. And he was far from accepted by all Russians exiles abroad. Nor is his granddaughter Maria today.
