I really don?t know why King Abdullah should speak English with an American accent! He may have gone to college in the US but his mother was English wasn?t she (may be muddling people up) and K Hussein went to school in England and to Sandhurst. Royals? accent in English do intrigue me.

Constantine of Greece, Princess Beatrix of the Netherlands and Queen Daisy are of course older and speak with cut glass upperclass English accents, but some younger ones like Cr Prss Victoria and King Felipe do seem to me to speak American when they make speeches in the English language. Albert of Monaco of course I do except due to Prss Grace.

TLLK

@Curryong-Yes it is a bit of a mystery but to me he sounds more American even though logically I believe that he should have a British accent. Especially since his mother and grandfather  were English. His father attended school in the UK so that should have influenced him.

I have to agree that there is definitely a generational gap when it comes to foreign royals speaking English. I have to wonder if the American influence on the younger generation  was due to them watching American TV and movies?

Curryong

Maybe but I think it?s more that they often polished and perfected their English at American colleges. Even though the Princess of Belgium and the Netherlands and Spain have been respectively at Oxford and in Wales recently!
