In 1914, Princess Mary, the daughter of King George V and Queen Mary of Great Britain, was seventeen. Mary had her own maid Else. Else had been with the Royal Family for over a decade.
She was German. Early in August King George and Queen Mary decided that the Royal Family could not harbour a German maid. Else had to return to Germany. It was a sad goodbye.

Would Else's title have been Lady's Maid?
