Girlfriend of Camilla's Brother Mark Shand Leads Tributes to Him In Fundraiser

The former girlfriend of Mark Shand has led tributes to the Duchess of Cornwall's younger brother at a fundraiser held in his memory.  Family and friends of conservationist Mark Shand attended the Elephant Family's In Giants' Footsteps launch party including the Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, Joseph Fiennes, Sir Evelyn de Rothschild, Richard Caring and Bianca Jagger.

Ruth Powys, the organisation's CEO, said the event 'would have sent Mark into orbit with happiness' - and also spoke of the suddenness of his death.

The evening launched a new campaign which was also Mr Shand's final wish - to raise money to create a series of elephant corridors in Assam in North East India which could save the future for 1,700 wild, endangered elephants.

More than 600 guests attended the evening which was hosted by Mr Shand's nephew Ben Elliot, Elephant Family's CEO and Mr Shand's former girlfriend Ruth Powys as well as Sotheby's Chairman Henry Wyndham.

Mark Shand seemed like a great guy. I would've liked to have had a drink and a convo with him.  Bet he told great stories. Ruth is a beautiful woman.
