Looking at the picture of the Belgian Royals, it is hard to believe that Prince Gabriel is taller than King Philippe.
The queen is tall and sons of tall women often are quite tall. Elizabeth is lovely. I hope we get to see photos of her in training this fall.
I believe that in the future, Europe will see a generation of kings and queens who are taller than average especially with the Belgian, Dutch, and Danish royal families. :Jen:

The neighbors north of Belgium also have very tall children with W-A and Maxima's daughter Amaila seems to have already passed her very tall mother and is gaining on her father.

Actually, most of the next generation are tall or have potential. Only Luxembourg, Sweden and Denmark are less than tall.
I'm going to bedazzle a grabber for you so you can reach the top shelves in the hallway where we now store tiaras. Due to COVID 19 regulations, we can't keep the taller heirs/spares around to grab items for us anymore.
From looking at the Belgians, Dutch, Norwegian, Danish families we could have used a few of them to help with redecorating.

Elizabeth has been a pleasure to watch through the years and she carries herself with great poise. She's the eldest of this generation of European heirs born in the 2000's (Amalia, Christian, Ingrid-Alexandra, Leonor, Estelle, George, Jacques, and now little Charles) soon she'll be off for her military training.

@PrincessOfPeace. The royal back to school photos should be starting soon for the other royal houses as well even though some might be starting online this term. I was surprised that she wasn't attending Sint-Jan but since she resides outside of the intake area, I can see why she had to choose another school. The Belgian royal have often been criticized for having poor Flemish speaking skill in the past, so her parents have been very determined that all of their children have a solid foundation in that language. All have attended Flemish speaking schools.

WOW!!! Oh my I was not sure that Delphine would be now HRH Princess Delphine of Belgium. However IMHO she is a near double of her late paternal grandmother Queen Astrid and Grand Duchess Josephine Charlotte. She is also very similar to Princess Marie Astrid.
That is a very strange pronouncement for the illegitimate progeny of a King, isn't it? The only other case I can remember is in the Monaco RF when one of Rainier's forebears was voluntarily legitimised by her father the ruling Prince, because he had no other heirs.
I'm not sure that King Phillipe will be particularly pleased, bringing back as it does, his childhood and youth when much of his father's attention went away from his legitimate offspring. Though apparently Delphine is to be left money by Albert she is not in the line of succession, and whoever draws up House Rules as to which individuals are regarded by the RF and Court as in the family and who is definitely not might have to go back to the drawing board!
It has been decided by a court, not by the King.. and I think its due to a general shift in the legal field.. that children born outside wedlock have to have the same rights as children born in wedlock. But it doesn't seem to have taken all that long to decide, so presumably the RF have resigned themselves to knowing that she will be given a title

Nevertheless, the Belgian Royal House also has records which show which of the family bears the name Saxe Coburg for example, which members are of the inner core of the family and ducal designation etc, such as Brabant, and who are extended members, just bearing name and rank alone.

yes but It seem that the RF are willing to allow the court to decide.. Unless they appeal the court ruling and that might be controversial.... Of course it is unusual.. but it seem to me that the mood of the country must be in favour.....or the court could not see any reason to deny her the title

Yes, Elizabeth is going to be a lovely young woman. The family of Philippe and Matilde has always seemed close, I think. In terms of royals you remember from babies shooting up into teenagerhood the biggest shock for me was seeing the latest set of photos of Prince Christian of Denmark.

Well, Philippe obviously wasn't staying home if his car was caught in the demonstration, unless members of his family were using his car for some reason. Royals do go out in the evenings to attend functions, even in these Covid times, and go out to private appointments. I just question why the Palace/King isn't informed about likely demonstrations.

Honestly if I had to award a prize for the "Most Improved" royal couple, IMHO it's King Phillipe and Queen Mathilde. Phillipe was often viewed as a um...somewhat dim future monarch, but truly he's proven to be quite a stabilizing figure in a country that is split by language and economic concerns. He's gracefully welcomed his half-sister into the family fold after his father finally recognized her. Together with Queen Mathilde, he's raised a beautiful family with an heir who appears to be well prepared for her future role.

The Belgian Court has released information about the upcoming National Day. It confirms that the King's newly recognized half-sister Princess Delphine and her husband will be present. This has certainly been eighteen months to remember in various parts of the world, a terrible pandemic, bushfires, and severe flooding. Floods are absolutely dreadful. Among my first memories are the terrible floods that affected the east coast of England where many people had to be rescued from their homes. My thoughts are with the people of that area of Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium that is affected.

RevArte is a rehabilitation centre that focusses on physical and mental rehabilitation for people who suffer cerebral lesions, amputations, spinal cord injuries and motion disabilities.
The facility can house up to 194 patients at a time, and offers temporary hospitalisations, as well as medical check-ins.
Queen Mathilde specifically toured the Herbosch-Ceurremans centre, which is dedicated to the rehabilitation of young people suffering the consequences of road accidents.
Her Majesty met with patients and their families, and listened to their stories, before meeting the staff on duty at the facility, including doctors, nurses, physical therapists and medical personnel that creates prosthetics for those who have had limb amputations.
The Queen was also given a tour of the physical therapy room which houses some of the newest technological marvels for rehabilitative therapy, to help patients in a faster and more permanent recovery.
Her Majesty also played a friendly game of foosball table with some patients before sitting down for a meeting with hospital executives.

Instead, King Philippe will make a short visit to Rome on December 1st where he will meet the Italian President, Sergio Mattarella to discuss the importance of relations between their two countries.
The Belgian State Visit to Italy was first planned for March 2020 but was postponed when the pandemic first began. Now, almost two years later, the trip is again on hold until a later date.

Their Majesties arrived in the structure on Wednesday, 9th March 2022, after making the short journey from Brussels to Sint-Jans-Molenbeek, a small municipality on the outskirts of the Belgian Capital.
The King and Queen first met with members of the organisation working in the structure under the umbrella of FEDASIL, including the Belgian branch of the Red Cross and volunteers, as well as officials from various government entities. During the visit, they were also accompanied by the Secretary of State, Sammy Mahdi.
The royal couple then got a chance to speak with the refugees hosted in the structure, who are fleeing in ever increasing numbers from conflict zones in Ukraine.
The King and Queen were so touched by the stories they heard that, once the visit was concluded, they used their social media accounts to release a statement in four languages (Dutch, French, German and English) to express their feelings about what they witnessed.
The King meets with the federal and regional labor and employment ministers and the experts who accompanied him during his working visit to in October. They discuss the lessons that can be drawn from this visit for the organization of the labor market:

Lovely to see them together. The young Duchess seems to be happy at Oxford. Wasn?t Astrid put forward by over-excited newspapers as a possible match for Charles when they were both in their 20s? As far as I remember they didn?t know each other at all! Interesting that the two of them met two days ago on official business.
@Curryong- It was her cousin Marie Astrid from Luxembourg that was the one who was being promoted as a possible bride. Most likely because they were close in age and were both from reigning royal families. However as we both know that match would have required her to dispense were her Roman Catholic denomination and join the Church of England.

On November 15, 2022, King Albert II and Queen Paola, Princess Astrid and Prince Lorenz, Prince Laurent and Princess Claire of Belgium attended a Te Deum mass held on the occasion of King?s Day (Koningsdag) at Saint Michael and St Gudula Cathedral in Brussels.
Queen Paola as Honorary President of Missing Children Europe, King Albert and Queen Mathilde attended the award ceremony and gala dinner on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Missing Children Europe in Brussels this evening, November 15:
I think that King Phillipe of the Belgians secretly has quite the sense of humour! Especially in his clothing when he goes cycling in Brussels with his wife! Imo Phillipe has made an excellent monarch. I never much liked Albert (or Paola) because of their private behaviour towards their children.
@Curryong- I absolutely agree that Phillipe has proven to be an excellent monarch of a fractious nation especially during the pandemic. I would have never have thought that he'd participate in a video like the one for the Red Devils, but I am glad that he did. I like how he cleverly used all three official languages of Belgium while "coaching" the Red Devil team. Finally it should be noted that he and Mathilde have created a very loving family even though he didn't experience one himself.

Yes, I thoroughly agree on all points. He and Mathilde are a close couple and their family are lovely, imo. As to the last, if even half of what has been reported about the very self-centred parenting of King Albert and Queen Paola is true it has probably left it?s mark on Laurent the most.
The fall State Visits are continuing with Belgium welcoming the President of Switzerland this week. The traditional welcome ceremony included inspecting the troops.

Mathilde in lovely maroon daytime outfit of dress and a matching hat. Hats and gloves are still worn by most of the women among the European monarchies to welcoming ceremonies.
Later the queen wore an elegant pale pink caped dress, her Laurel Wreath tiara and a gorgeous pair of earrings with multi-colored stones. :wub: This is one of her best recent gala looks IMHO. The purple of her sash worked beautifully with this dress.

Quoteing Philippe is about to celebrate his tenth anniversary on the throne of Belgium, with many successes behind him that surprised his past detractors.
Many considered him too quiet and shy to be an effective leader, and when King Albert II announced his decision to abdicate, many were sceptical of Philippe?s abilities to carry the duties of a head of state on his shoulders.
However, ten years later, his detractors can look back and see how much the country and the monarchic institution needed a quiet leader, someone to do the job with not much fanfare but with determination all the same.
He maintained leadership in his family even in its most difficult time: with him not being monarch anymore, King Albert opened himself to the full extent of the law, which, after many decades, prompted an official recognition of a second daughter. It was then that Princess Delphine was given an official title and recognition as the daughter of a former sovereign.
King Philippe only released positive statements, and although he didn?t publicise it, he held several meetings with his half-sister. Because of his decisions, Princess Delphine was asked to attend family events, like the annual church service to commemorate deceased members of the Royal Family or the celebrations for National Day.
On the institutional front, King Philippe was at the helm of several political crises, including six government formations, the COVID-19 pandemic and environmental disasters.
He welcomed political leaders at the Royal Palace for round after round of discussions to ensure the formation of functioning governments.

The King is smiling and the Queen looks very proud and a tad emotional when she sees them. I am not sure if there will be a balcony appearance today as the facade of the Royal Palace is under renovation.
