Title: Louis-Philippe II of France
Post by: LouisFerdinand on September 07, 2015, 01:02:03 AM
After the abdication of King Louis-Philippe I of the French in 1848, there was some effort to put his grandson on the throne under the name of Louis-Philippe II.
The little boy's mother, Helene of Mecklenburg-Schwerin would have been regent.
This did not occur. The French Second Republic was proclaimed.
The grandson was Louis Philippe Albert (1838-1894).
He was the Count of Paris and upon the Count of Chambord's death in 1883, Philippe was recognized by most monarchists as Philippe VII of France.

In 1873 Philippe, the Count of Paris withdrew his claims to the French throne in favor of Henri V, the Comte de Chambord. It was assumed that Philippe was Chambord's heir and would thus be able to succeed to the throne upon Henri's demise.

During Prince Philippe and his brother's stay in the United States, the princes were accompanied by their uncle, Francois, Prince of Joinville. Francois painted many watercolors of their stay.
