QuoteDuke of Cambridge launches awards scheme

The Duke of Cambridge is the patron of SkillsForce; today, he launched the SkillsForce Prince William Award during a visit to Llanfoist Fawr Primary School in Abergavenny. According to Headteacher, Jon Murphy, the children could hardly contain their excitement at meeting the Prince.

Through teamwork exercises, the national award seeks to instill confidence, character, and resilience in children between the ages of six and 14. Today, the Prince worked with around 80 pupils from Llanfoist Fawr Primary, Caldicot School, Monmouthshire and Bishopstone Primary School in Swindon, Wiltshire.

Happy to see kids actively participating in hands on activities rather than sitting behind a screen.

Every school year I'm introduced to  students/children are resilient and confident. They  overcome physical, emotional, educational hurdles in their lives and flourish. An opportunity to recognize those young people is beneficial to others who might not believe that they can succeed.

Under-pressure children are being 'tested more than ever', Prince William warns

Quotechildren are facing "considerable" pressure and are being "tested more than ever", the Duke of Cambridge has said at a charity event.

Speaking at a gala in aid of the Children's Trust and SkillForce, he criticised the impact of social media on young people's confidence and self-esteem.

The Children's Trust helps children suffering from brain injuries, while SkillForce works with ex-servicemen to teach young people resilience, leadership and self-esteem through mentoring and workshops in schools.

More on the award.

QuoteThrough The Prince William Award we help young people build their character, resilience and confidence to empower them to ?be their best?.

At the heart of this aspiration are our brilliant instructors, the majority of whom have served their country in the British Armed Forces. These ?heroes in schools? embody the Service values and understand the importance of teamwork, resilience and self-discipline. They are the complementary role models that many children need working alongside their teachers.

An instructor will typically go into a school for one session a week for around 36 weeks to offer a structured curriculum featuring facilitated workshops and community projects, with lots of opportunity for reflection. This gives students the chance to embed knowledge and behaviours through experience.

The Award is delivered at three different levels, Pioneer, Explorer and Trailblazer, each appropriate for a broad age range. The levels explore key themes and guiding principles

The Duke of Cambridge's speech during the inaugural SkillForce Prince William Award Graduation Ceremony | The Royal Family

William's closing remarks from his speech today.

QuoteGraduates - you will not be here today without the help of your incredible Award instructors.  It is great to see so many instructors here in this room. Most of you have served in the Armed Forces and now continue your dedication in education: encouraging young people to be their very best.

Giving children exceptional role models and an understanding of what it means to be courageous, disciplined and resilient should be important to us all. And as instructors, you do just that.

Now, to you, the 2018 graduates ? give me a wave if you are graduates (I can see a few small hands!) - huge, huge congratulations.

Articles and discussion regarding Skillforce.

Speaking about ''Skill'' Force, I'm posting this new information here, when William was in his 20's (from the Carole Middleton article)

LOL with the skillforce and LOL with the quote

Quote
?William was staying with the family when it was the lead up to Christmas, which is always a really busy time for the company, and it?s all hands on deck,? explains ?Venetia?, who worked for Party Pieces for three years.

?Kate was on packing duty, so she showed William how to grade the size of boxes according to the orders, fold the boxes together, and put the goods in, before handing them on to be double checked before they were sealed.

?He only spent a few hours doing it but he said it was pretty tiring and how much you had to concentrate, and that he didn?t want to be responsible for sending out a wrong order of Christmas decorations to someone who was expecting birthday balloons.  :hehe:

?He?s a lovely guy, and it was so obvious to all of the girls who worked at PP that he was really in love with Kate, which made us a little bit jealous but then we all adored Kate.

?It was so easy to forget that William was a prince, because everyone just treated him as a friend of the family.?

TLLK

That is a great story and it's a reminder that this type of work can be quite stressful.  Plus it confirms what I'd expected about Party Pieces and the Middleton kids, that as in many family owned businesses everyone is expected to pitch in during the busy times of the year.

Yeah, Skill Force indeed would keep youth from antisocial behaviour.

In the UK it's a serious crime.
