Prince William and his wife Kate are spending about 24 hours away from the glare of their royal tour, and reports say they are holed up at a backcountry lodge in Banff National Park.

The royal couple reportedly spent the night at Skoki Lodge, a private setting accessible only by an 11-kilometre hike from the Lake Louise ski area.

Media reports say the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge arrived by helicopter.

A day off is always good on any tour, it gives them the opportunity to truly relax and get to know a little more about the country being visited.

I must say, William looks sooo handsome in his Stetson. It fits him. I can totally see him and Kate living out on a ranch somewhere, tending to horses.

I hope they enjoy the show.
These are the good old days.

At the zoo...

Kate in a coat dress by Catherine Walker and William in...you know, the same navy suit!  Red looks good on her. I'm glad she's finally wearing some colors.

^Yes, its about a 3 hour flight to Los Angeles, they'll arrive around 4-5 p.m. LA time.

^^ I won't speak to the fashion, but the whimsical acts are probably very important to the hosts of each of the Cambridges' stops.  They do seem like strange (or silly?) rituals, but the barbecues or the inspection of the troops or even the flipping of a pancake all do have meaning, and happy memories, to those who host the events.

I shan't argue it with you, cinrit.  Perspectives on such things are so individual and subjective that debates become too circular with no productive conclusion.  However, I will say that where you see meaning and importance I see whimsy and vacuity.

Orchid, I tend to agree with you.  My city hosted them on their tour and after seeing what little effect they had on the city and people, I am even more convinced at what little purpose they serve.  Yes, they drum up excitment but it is only temporary and life quickly goes back to business as usual.  They may have a true impact on some (ie the little girl with cancer) but it is very few.  After they leave, what have they accomplished?  The little girl still has to go back to her hospital bed and fight for her life.  Yet what recognition are the doctors and nurses who take care of her everyday given?  They are the ones who are truly important and serving a great purpose.  It is so disappointing the people our society choose to worship.

I didn't realize Jerry Brown is married.  He was single his first time around as governor in the 70's and 80's.  He was dating Linda Ronstadt then.  Quite a fun life ...
