The Queen will miss this summer's Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony to be held in Birmingham but the monarch will be represented by Charles, Camilla and the Cambridges.

I am stunned that the DoY's name appears in today's official program for the Garter Service. However I am relieved that he won't be appearing at the service as of today.
I am concerned that the DoY who admittedly has not been charged with a crime in a court of law but has shown very little contrition regarding his association with Epstein seems to believe that he can "return" to public life. <_<
I am hoping that the only future public BRF joint and group events that Andrew will be permitted to attend are the ones associated with his mother's passing.

The Most Noble Order of the Garter is the oldest order of chivalry in Britain and it was first established by King Edward III in 1348.
Edward was said to be inspired by the legend of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table, and the Order of the Garter has remained in place for centuries since.
There are 24 spaces for Knights and Ladies Companion in the Order. But, in 2022 only 20 of these spots are filled. On Garter Day, new appointments are formally invested in the Garter Throne Room by the monarch.
The Queen traditionally leads a procession at Windsor Castle of her Knights and Royal Family members dressed in velvet robes and plumed hats.
A service is also held at St George's Chapel, which has been the spiritual home of the Order throughout its existence.
Two former prime ministers, Sir John Major and Sir Tony Blair, are part of the Order presently, and other members include Baroness Manningham-Buller, the former Director-General of MI5, and Baroness Amos, the former Leader of the House of Lords.
Appointees are made in recognition of their dedication to public service, but there are also royal members both in the UK and abroad that are part of the Order on an honorary basis. The Queen, as Sovereign of the Garter, makes the appointments to the Order personally.
Who are the current royal members of the Order?
Royal Knights and Ladies Companion of the Most Noble Order of the Garter include the Queen's cousins Prince Edward, Duke of Kent, Princess Alexandra and Prince Richard, the Duke of Gloucester.
The Queen's four children Prince Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward have also been appointed to the Order during the Queen's reign.

It?s not an indication of over-full diaries for the couple at all. Neither of them are interested in horse racing at all. If they were they would have been seen at a dozen race courses over the past ten years or so. In that disinterest they follow Charles (and Camilla) and not Anne or the Tindalls. Therefore Royal Ascot is not a priority for them.
I fully expect RA. to shrink as far as attendance by major senior royals goes in Charles?s reign, especially as he gets much older. There already have been articles over the last few years about Charles (and William?s) disinterest in ?the Sport of Kings? and how it might affect Royal Ascot and other races like the Derby in the future. Ascot is just as much a fashion show for celebs and socialites as it is a horse racing event anyway, like our Melbourne Cup.

The Queen was represented by The Prince Charles, Duke of Rothesay and The Princess Royal, accompanied by Vice-Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, this morning when Their Royal Highnesses and Admiral Laurence attended a Service in St Giles' Cathedral for the Installation of Lady Elish Angiolini as a Lady of the Most Ancient and Most Noble Order of the Thistle and Sir George Reid as a Knight of the Most Ancient and Most Noble Order.
The Prince Charles, Duke of Rothesay and The Princess Royal, accompanied by Vice-Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, were received at St Giles' Cathedral by the Chancellor of the Thistle (the Earl of Airlie) and the Minister of St Giles' (the Reverend Calum MacLeod).
A Guard of Honour was mounted in Parliament Square West by The Queen?s Body Guard for Scotland, Royal Company of Archers, with the Colours of the Royal Company, under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Johnny Stewart, and accompanied by the Band of The Royal Regiment of Scotland.
The Queen gave a Lunch Party at the Palace of Holyroodhouse for the Most Noble Order of the Thistle.

This is really great news, I saw HM's visit elsewhere and she looked so happy and thrilled to be out with the people again. Nice also that Anne was with her just in case...that makes a big difference. Do it slowly and maybe we will see more of HM out working like she wants to. Whatever is working for her at home, keep doing it as it is working.
As anticipated, The Prince of Wales, accompanied by the Duchess of Cornwall, will represent the Queen at the Opening Ceremony of the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham next week. Other members of the royal family will also be attending the Games.

Meanwhile, whilst Edward & Sophie are getting close to the sporting action, Princess Anne & Sir Tim Laurence will pay a visit to the Athletes? Village at Warwick University.
HRH and Sir Tim will meet athletes from across the Commonwealth, before heading to Coventry Stadium to watch England, Scotland and Wales compete in Rugby Sevens games.
On Saturday 30th July, the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester will attend cycling events at the Lee Valley Velopark. Richard & Birgitte will watch the Men?s 4000m Individual Pursuit, before presenting the winners with their medals.
Further details are yet to be announced, but Buckingham Palace has confirmed that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will also attend the Commonwealth Games to watch the sporting action.

As part of the penultimate day of the Games, Prince Edward also attended a reception hosted by the Governor of Victoria, Australia were the 2026 Games will be held. He met representatives of the four Traditional Owner groups who will be hosting the competition.

Yes, that?s exactly what I thought about Harry and Meghan at the very successful Invictus Games in the Netherlands earlier this year, and all the IG?s before it when Harry joined in with various competitors and teams. Also the IG in Canada of course.
And as for mixing, I didn?t exactly see the Wessexes or the Cambridges or any other royals as a matter of fact, leap about positively and enthusiastically connecting and embracing Australian, NZ, Indian, Canadian or other athletes other than British ones, though this is our Commonwealth Games as much as it is England?s, if not more so. Especially as Australia topped the medal tally all the way through. And the Queen is our HOS too.

That's the third time Catherine and William traveled separately with children. I guess they are taking this 'dont fly whole family together thing very seriously'
ETA: William has arrived solo or with one or two of the children first, then Kate with the remaining family member. Switching of who travels with the parent.
Another royal watcher (the above Regal Files is the wife of Mark Stewart, 30+ years as top royal photographer sought after the media and the BRF too) said they are also being cautious with the children road trips. i.e. WIlliam flew himself with Charlotte to the commonwealth games by heli , Kate arrived by train. i.e. William arrived at Wimbledon, and was at the lineup receiving Kate and George at the entrance.

Members of the British Royal Family, the British Government and various armed forces regiments and veterans groups will be gathering at the Cenotaph on Sunday November 13 for Remembrance Sunday.
The tradition began after the end of WWI with King George V leading the ceremony. Since then the following monarchs have also taken the lead in honoring the nation's dead: Edward VIII (I did find a photo of him.), George VI, Elizabeth II and now Charles III. QEII had the then PoW lay her wreath starting in 2017. I expect to see the King accompanied by the QC, the PoW, PssoW, EoW, CoW, PssR, VATL, DoG, DssoG,. Depending on their health status we might also see the DoK and PssAoK. Occasionally PMK has also participated.

Although it is not such a national day as Anzac Day here, Remembrance Day in Australia is observed today. Like other Commonwealth countries we also wear poppies (for Flanders fields) and have services of remembrance in churches or around the various cenotaphs for the dead built in towns, even remote and small ones, all over Australia.
The flag at Parliament House flies at half mast, one minute?s silence is observed at 11am (which was the hour at which the armistice which ended WW1 was proclaimed.) The GG and prominent politicians, both State and Federal, attend services and wreaths are laid.
None of our men from WW1 are of course alive now. Or from WW2, virtually. The services now remember the dead of all conflicts and wars. Of the young men who sailed away expecting adventure in France and Belgium and Egypt from 1914 onwards, over 30,000 never came home. (Nor did they get leave in Australia from European or Middle Eastern battlefields in either World Wars. Too far away from the conflict.) So, for four years in the first War and six years in the second, many thousands of men (and also female nurses sent to look after them) never saw their families.
Fighting in the trenches ended at that moment at 11am in 1918 though skirmishes had continued on the days before. Disgustingly, soldiers on both sides had been led into battle over the trenches by their junior officers in the week before the conflict ended, though TPTB knew that an armistice was to be set in place on the 11th hour of the 11th day of November in 1918.
I won?t be going to the service at our cenotaph this year, but like millions of other Aussies I will be thinking of the dead and the horror of war (including that in the Ukraine) this morning.
King George V and his sons took part in Remembrance Sunday from 1918 onwards till 1935. I think King George was ill for the 1935 Memorial Service and didn?t attend, but his sons did. His two eldest sons, the future Duke of Windsor and King George VI, were old enough to serve. Edward was sent to France as a Staff Officer and, until stomach ulcers prevented him from service George was in the Royal Navy and in fact served in the naval Battle of Jutland.
King George V was very much involved with the establishment of Remembrance Day and Sunday from the beginning. It was he who asked his subject throughout Britain and the Empire to participate in the one minute of Silence and in arrangements for the Unknown Soldier to be brought from France and lie in WA. In 1918 he hosted a banquet at BP for the visiting President of France in the run up to the first Remembrance Sunday, then known as Armistice Day, a title we still use in Aus. So I?m surprised there are no photos of the King at these services to be found!

I'm not surprised that the UK will host an incoming State Visit as the other monarchies/republics are busy hosting them in the last weeks of the year. Most of the fall ones seem to be concluded by the end of November. As expected, the various members of the family will be playing roles during the three day visit including the State Dinner.
I'm not surprised, either, and look forward to as much coverage as I can find. I'm pleasantly surprised that such events are taking place already.

Thank you so much Princess of Peace, I really enjoyed watching that. So wish I could of been there yet seeing it here up close as I did, it was wonderful. I loved seeing Charles, Camilla and William and Catherine fulfilling the duties that HM had done.

While the official welcome ceremonies typically see the HoS (monarch) and Consort along with the adult heir and spouse, often times other family members might be present at the official lunch and then later at the State Dinner. :Jen:

Following that, President Ramaphosa, along with King Charles III and Queen Camilla, rode to Buckingham Palace in a carriage procession. They rode down the Mall in the Australian State Carriage. The Prince and Princess of Wales followed in the Irish State Carriage.
His Majesty went on to host a private lunch for President Ramaphosa at Buckingham Palace.

@Nightowl-I expect that Major Johnny is present, but might have been out of view for photos.
I'm hoping that the Royal Family Orders for the reign of KCIII had been prepped prior to the end of QEII's reign though it's possible that they were not. I've read but can't confirm that these RFOs will be painted on glass instead of ivory.

I wouldn't be surprised if this is one custom that has changed in the new reign. While this State Visit was planned prior to QEII's passing, I can understand if Charles wishes to make some changes to the court dresscode.
I did read some new information on the RFOs. Reportedly they are not presented until after the monarch's coronation. That may explain why the ladies were still wearing the one from QEII's reign last night. In the future, they'll continue to wear them with Charles'. Princess Alexandra is the only living family member with two-George VI and QEII.

2. Banquets take a long time to prepare for ? six months in fact. It also takes palace staff three days to lay the table!
3. The table settings are fascinating. Napkins are folded in the shape of a Dutch bonnet and there are six glasses for each person - for water, a champagne toast, red and white wines, dessert wine and port, which are all carefully placed in order.
4. Now, this is precise: every place setting must be precisely 18 inches apart - with measuring sticks used to ensure absolute precision.
5. The monarch's footmen ensure sure every chair is exactly the same distance from the table and each glass is the same distance from the front edge of the table.
6. Nineteen stations are set up around the table, each manned by four staff - a page, footman, under butler and a wine butler.
7. Staff use a traffic light system to co-ordinate the serving of courses.
8. Detailed diagrams are used to illustrate the serving plans and a list of special instructions sets out any dietary requirements and requests for royals and other guests.
9. Palace staff have instructions to place a special cushion on the king's seat to ease his back pain. King Charles also has a bowl of olive oil instead of butter for his bread.
10. There is a dress code for state banquets: formal gowns, often white tie, and tiaras for the ladies. National dress is also worn.
11. The royal family wear sashes and badges known as orders if they have been given them in recognition of royal service.
12. Before dinner, speeches take place followed by toasts and the playing of the national anthems.
13. A string orchestra usually provides the musical backdrop to the banquet.
14. During the meal, guests are advised to start with the silverware that is on the outside of their place setting and work their way in.
15. The former Queen was known to be a fast eater. There is actually a rule that stipulates when the monarch finishes their meal, everyone else must also put their knife and fork down too.
16. It is important to note which side of the monarch you are sitting on. It is customary for the guest of honour to sit to the right of the monarch and it follows that he will speak to that person during the first course of the dinner. He will then switch his attention to the person on his left for the following course.
17. Guests should also never leave an event before a royal unless special permission has been granted, and one should avoid any personal questions ? polite small talk will suffice.
18. You should also never touch the King and only shake his hand if he offers it.
19. Do you know how to hold a teacup correctly? The correct way is to hold the top of your cup handle with your thumb and index finger and only sip from the same spot, to avoid multiple lipstick marks.
20. The end of the banquet is signalled by the arrival of 12 pipers processing round the room ? a tradition that originated with Queen Victoria.
21. Former royal chef Graham Tinsley MBE told HELLO! that if the former Queen attended a heads of state banquet, then all the chefs had to meet at a police station and get a motorcycle ride into the castle or palace ? for added security.

@wannable- I agree that the family will be close together this Christmas especially after the late Queen's passing and the lifting of COVID restrictions. As long as everyone is healthy, there's a good chance that Charles' siblings and some members of their families will be present. I say "some" because five of Charles' nieces and nephews are married with their own children and in-laws too.
Glad to see that KCIII and the QC will be present at the Christmas Carol service at Westminster Abbey and I hope that other family will be able to attend as well. :xmas10:

Zara often has quite a few events in Aus at this time of year. They?ve often said they would like to spend the months of English winter here. Nevertheless, I think they will return for Xmas. Mike?s relatives will want to spend time with his family. And I can certainly see Eugenie and Jack returning as Eug would not want to be away from her mother, sister and niece at that time of the year.

Yes, I think the knee breeches are now retired off, though even in the late reign they weren?t often worn.

Indeed, TLLK! It was wonderful when the most recent recipients of the honor, Camilla and Catherine, joined the others in this distinction. They all have embraced the idea of service to the Monarch and I love reading about all that they do.

Incredibly, the King wore them last night! I'm guessing that William had no choice but to wear them while the late Queen was alive but the King has let him off the hook. The King is a traditionalist but has also not pressed his sons to wear kilts.

It reminds me that there are a lot of positions to fill and not a lot of royals to fill them. If things had worked out better you would have had the Duke and Duchess of York as well as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. I do hope the Gloucesters stay well and continue their roles. They are some of my favorites.

These will be held on Wednesday 3 May and Tuesday 9 May 2023 at the Buckingham Palace.
This is a wonderful and unique opportunity for you to nominate any councillor or directly employed council officer, plus companion, to visit the Palace. As well as an opportunity to meet the King and other members of the Royal Family, guests will be able mingle with fellow guests, explore the Palace grounds, and enjoy delicious tea and cakes. This is open to any deserving councillor or officer who has not previously attended, and we would especially welcome applications from outgoing members.
To participate in this once-in-a lifetime experience, please send your councillor or directly employed council officer nominations, within your council's quota, by 5.00pm on Friday 24 February.
All nominated and accompanying guests should not have previously attended a Garden Party. It would be helpful if you could check this before submitting their names to us to avoid any disappointment or embarrassment.

Yes, sensible shoes are a must. I used to go pre Covid to the Melbourne city garden and flower show which was huge. Never been to the Chelsea one but in the 1950?s and 60s and prior to that it was part of the London Season?s calendar and as much a place to see and be seen as Ascot races. So I suppose people who weren?t particularly interested in gardening went just because of that.
I think the QM and QM were interested in gardening and would attend sometimes. I can?t imagine Queen Mary in informal outfits under any circumstances, though!

The Princess Royal is set to host members of the Royal Family ahead of this weekend's Trooping the Colour.
Princess Anne, 72, who recently received the title of Senior Colonel, will host a dinner for Household Division Colonels on the eve of the King's official birthday parade in London.
Guests will include several members of the royal family, including Queen Camilla, who was made Colonel of the Grenadier Guards last December, and the Prince of Wales, who took the role of Colonel of the Welsh Guards over from his father after King Charles's accession to the throne.

Lovely, just finished watching the TOC live. I'm happy for KCIII, the enthusiasm of the RAF to make his first official birthday 'very' special. 70 aircraft took place rather than the usual 20 plus. Congratulations to them for making it - Charles looked happy.

400 years is extraordinary for a playwright, isn?t it. I suppose all the Baconite and De Vereites are gnashing their teeth about this reception, though. I once met a person who believed that it was Queen Elizabeth I who wrote everything. No good arguing with them, though!
I made a mistake, Balmoral tourist ends tomorrow Wednesday 16th. Accordingly, the royals will be arriving Thursday 17th onward.
Apparently KCIII and QC have changed their minds and will be staying at Balmoral castle rather than Birkhall. OR they never changed their minds, always intended to stay at Balmoral. Source: multiple RR's

^^^I expect that most of the late QEII and the DoE's grandchildren and great-grandchildren who come to Balmoral before the start of the school year will have a private memorial gathering for her during their stay. The Tindalls and Phillips families will probably be there at some point as well.

Great to see the senior royals in the BRF gathered together at Balmoral. The school year begins soon so the Wales and Edinburgh's children will have one last holiday before the start of term. If the Phillips and Tindall's children are present, then they'll have the opportunity to catch up with their cousins.
Earl of Wessex-Eagle House School begins Sept. 2nd. Wales children- Lambrook starts on Sept. 6. Lady Louise Windsor-St. Andrews University-Week 1 is Sept. 11.
Yes, it is nice to see and hopefully some work/good news will be forthcoming. They are very lucky to be able to go there and enjoy the castle as that looks like what I call *heaven on earth* to me. So peaceful and calm looking with all the wild nature around.
Yes it seems that the family truly loves being in the Scottish Highlands and enjoying the peace and quiet that the Balmoral Estate can provide to them.

Yes, and all that utter rubbish that the tabloids went on about for weeks before the Balmoral holidays about Charles having summits with the Waleses about the future of the Commonwealth, about the entire RF gathering to consult about Harry and Meghan, was just the result of journalistic imagination. As usual.

I do believe that the Wales and the King/Queen did manage to spend some time discussing the future of the monarchy during the past week.
It seems logical to me that they would take advantage of the time together to do so.

I am very happy to see that State Visits are happening around the globe again. Hoping that there might be a chance that the long postponed incoming visit from Japan to the UK might happen in the Spring of 2024.
I so agree with you and on Japan as I really like the Imperial couple, mostly the Empress as she has had a very difficult time since she married into the family. I would like to think since she became an Empress that she has more freedom and has used the word *NO* to all the rules and regulations by IHA. Korea just surprised me when I read it is all. I also would love to see both Beatrice and Eugenie with their husbands attending and in tiaras. Even Sarah would be nice to see there also with Andrew as he would just be getting a free meal is all.
Yes it was a difficult transition for Empress Masako as well as her mother-in-law Empress Michiko. One would hope that IHA will finally wake up and ease the transition for their new members!
I would say that most of the State Visits involve republics these days. The BRF ladies in attendance will likely wear their tiaras and orders. Hopefully KCIII's family order will be ready by then so we can finally see it! I am expecting that it will be Camilla, Catherine, Anne, Sophie for certain and possibly Brigitta.

Senior Royals,
Working Royals,
Non-Working Royals and
Others.
The Others are Andrew, Harry and Meghan ? with Andrew getting preferential treatment over the Sussexes.
He was allowed to join Edward at the one year memorial service for the late Queen at St George's Chapel in Windsor while Harry, on the same day, struggled to get permission to pay his respects at her tomb there.

IMO Charles is fixing the most he can possibly do to leave a clean slate for William.
^^^I believe that is likely how KCIII views his immediate and his wider extended family. There is an exceptionally large group of people now who are part of the "non-working" royal family.
