Duchess of Cambridge swaps Wimbledon Royal Box for Court 14 to cheer on British wildcard

The Duchess of Cambridge has swapped the Royal Box for a low-key seat on the Wimbledon outer courts, as she lends her support to British wildcard player Harriet Dart.
The Duchess, who is patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, will spend the day at Wimbledon meeting players and watching the second day of action.
Duchess of Cambridge swaps Wimbledon Royal Box for Court 14 to cheer on British wildcard

She looks great, and a smart PR move watching the new generation of Tennis players.  Hannah Furness of the Telegraph said that she will be attending later Centre Court.

Edit to Add: HRH first saw a match at Court 14 between Britain?s Harriet Dart and US? Christina McHale. Ms Dart is a SportsAid alumna. The Duchess is patron of SportsAid.

I think it was cool she went to Court 14, it's the first royal to do that.

These are the alumni of SportsAid, Kate's patronage playing in Wimbledon this year.

SportsAid alumni make a lasting impression at Wimbledon Championships

A raft of SportsAid alumni boosted optimism for the future of British tennis as they stamped their mark on this year?s Wimbledon Championships and gained vital experience in front of a home crowd. Alfie Hewett, Andy Lapthorne, Harriet Dart, Jack Draper and Jay Clarke were stand-out performers as they helped make history and demonstrated their potential to deliver further sporting success for their country on the international stage.

Kate watched Harriet and she won.  :D

At #Wimbledon today, The Duchess visited the Aorangi Park to see the practice courts and players? warm-up area.

Whilst there Her Royal Highness met @JohannaKonta and Wimbledon Champion @andy_murray.

The Duchess also met a number of finalists and winners nominated for the annual LTA Tennis Awards which recognise people who volunteer at grassroots level to grow and open up the sport.

She is patron to the LTA Tennis, so expect her at the Awards later in the year.

I believe this event will be tomorrow for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. If not, the final day of the event.

Henley Royal Regatta takes place from 3rd - 7th July

HENLEY ROYAL REGATTA 2019: RETURN OF THE KINGS CUP

In commemoration of the centenary of the 1919 Royal Henley Peace Regatta, Military VIIIs will once again compete against each other at Henley Royal Regatta after a one hundred year hiatus.
For the first time, male and female military athletes will row in the same boat at an elite international event. The King?s Cup will see crews from the original six nations of Australia, Canada, France, New Zealand, the UK and the USA, joined by Germany and the Netherlands, competing in a knock-out format over the final three days of the 2019 Henley Royal Regatta.
Sir Steve Redgrave, Chairman of the Regatta?s Committee of Management, said: ?The Regatta is delighted to host such an important commemoration. The 1919 Royal Henley Peace Regatta was a key milestone in our sport and was staged by the rowing community to help heal wounds and hasten the return to normality of the Allied nations and their troops recovering from the First World War?.

It always belongs and will always be in sports section, it will only will hit front page news, all TV reports, rather than sports channels only, practically everywhere IF a VIP of interest is there, and now her KP team with their ''new'' strategy of mixing patronages to ''kill 2 birds in 1'' so to speak, makes it a working visit, with fun too.

In other news, if the Lionesses win the USA tonight, Prince William as the President of the English Football will make sure to send his W message, the media will cover it by mentioning VIPs of interest supporting the team.

The Duchess of Cambridge is still at Wimbledon, watching Serena Williams at the moment.

QuoteShe is promoting herself
Actually Catherine is there today as the patron of All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club and as the patron of Sports Aid. So in truth she's really promoting the patronages that she represents just like any other working member of the BRF.

Catherine watched British tennis player Harriet Dart ( a Sports Aid funded athlete) on Court 14 today in early round competition. She also met with retired and current players along with those who work with AELTC and Sports Aid. Today Catherine also met with those volunteers from the Lawn Tennis Association and handed out awards.

This is a great deal of coverage for day two of the tournament. Typically the heaviest coverage is seen in the second week.

We have a misunderstanding here, as I said yesterday Sports is specific to the media as in placing the sports news in sports section, Sports Channels, when a VIP OF INTEREST is all over the news related to sports, it switches to Front Page News and All TV sections rather than only sports channels.

As you may see today, Wimbledon is not Front Page News nor in all sections of the TV (and Radio), you would need to go i.e. to ESPN to watch your tennis game, or CLICK Sports Section to read the tennis progress.  But yesterday it was all over because of a VIP of Interest, which was the Duchess of Cambridge.

Thank you for the update @wannable. Yes with a high profile VIP attending the second day of the tournament, the coverage was more extensive.

wannable

Thank you.

Today Mr. and Mrs. Michael and Carole are at the Royal Box, Centre Court, you need to ''scroll down'' to ''Wimbledon News'' in the ''Sports Section'', they are fairly the big size news in that Section, then the other ''mini'' boxes are the tennis news.

TLLK

One thing that I appreciated about Catherine's visit yesterday on the second day of the tournament, is that she chose to attend matches that were not limited to Centre Court or Court 1. She was present for one of the upcoming British players Hannah Dart who is a Sports Aid alumna.  :)

The Duchess of Kent and Wimbledon ? a complicated relationship ? Royal Central

While I knew most of the stories regarding Katherine Kent, I had not realized that she helped Martina's Navatrilova's mother obtain a visa so she could come to the UK and see her daughter play.

Quoten another display of kindness, the Duchess helped Martina Navratilova?s mother get a UK visa. This was after she heard the story of how none of Navratilova?s family could watch her win the championship because they could not leave communist Czechoslovakia.

This was often the case with athletes competing at high profile competitions in Western nations. This kept the athletes in line and more likely not to defect. :(

Diana should have been a patron of Wimbledon or had some role.

I agree that Diana would have been an ideal future patron for Wimbledon.

Cute.

As QEII was the patron of AELTC she might have considered Edward Kent and possible Katherine Kent at some point, but the Duchess really retired from royal life quite awhile ago so perhaps had she remained in the BRF Diana would have been the candidates.

Catherine, Duchess of Kent succeeded her mother in Law Marina Duchess of Kent who awarded the trophies. Catherine did retire from royal life so her husband awarded the trophies.
