A great tour for the Duke and Duchess. I bet they are relieved that it is over at last!  :teehee:

PrincessOfPeace

Just looked back at the print edition of the Daily Mail. The Cambridges were on the front page 10 times during the royal tour and there were also 3 pull out souvenir supplements. The DM has the second largest daily subscription in Britain, add in the fact the Mail Online is the most visited news website in the world and this tour has received a lot of coverage in Britain and around the world.

Not to mention the BBC and Sky covered it daily with Sky to air a royal tour recap special Saturday evening.

QuoteOn his first royal tour it was inevitable that the big, bruising bundle of energy that is our future king would steal the show.

The now nine-month-old third in line to the throne was never caught smiling but he still melted hearts around the world when he joined his parents the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on their epic tour of New Zealand and Australia.

Those of us watching him at close quarters felt sure of one thing: this boy is going to be a character.

It was hard to take your eyes off him, whether he was snatching toys off other babies, bouncing up and down and stretching on his tiptoes to try to get into an animal enclosure or simply kicking his legs and wriggling in excitement.

The longest royal tour for a generation, 19 days of sheer bliss for fans of the monarchy and particularly the young family that have given it renewed vigour and relevance, offered the first real glimpse of Prince George in action.

The Daily Mail's official editorial comment on the Royal Tour

QuoteThis paper congratulates the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on a triumphant tour, which has done much to cement our ties with New Zealand and Australia.

As for Prince George, if he carries on his royal duties as he has begun them, republicans will be crying in the wilderness for a long while yet.

QuoteAustralia Royal Visit: Day Nineteen

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince George's tour of New Zealand and Australia came to an end today as they headed home after a nineteen day visit.

Their Royal Highnesses were left "bowled over" by the warmth of the welcome from well-wishers, said Kensington Palace.

The Duke and Duchess began the last day of their tour Down Under by attending a moving dawn service in memory of the fallen, in the parade ground of the Australian War Memorial.
In the shadow of the memorial, an imposing sandstone-clad Byzantine style building with a copper-covered dome, they stood with others.

Stretching out beneath them from the impressive building and down towards Parliament House, tens of thousands of veterans, their families and members of the public had gathered in the darkness to pay tribute. Some sat with candles, The Duke and Duchess and the others in the official party had small torches to read the order of service.

QuoteAustralian PM Tony Abbott Accused of Breaching Royal Protocol After He Put Arm Around William  (VIDEO)

It's happened again.  Back in 1992 Australia's then prime minister Paul Keating infamously put his left arm around Queen Elizabeth II's back.  The unashamed republican was quickly called 'The Lizard of Oz' as a result and found himself at the centre of a diplomatic storm.

Well now it seems both sides of Australian politics are guilty of prohibited pats on the back.  Liberal PM Tony Abbott, more staunchly a monarchist than nearly all his predecessors, was snapped with his arm around the midriff of the Duke of Cambridge at an official engagement in Parliament House, Canberra on Thursday.

The photo was uploaded to the Australian Harper's Bazaar Instagram feed and immediately drew ire from the the online community.

A fair and balanced analysis of the Australian leg of the Royal Tour by veteran royal reporters. Diana was way before my time and I didn't realise what a difficult experience she had being in the spotlight.

QuoteWHEN little girls dream of being a princess, they dream of tiaras, gowns, and handsome princes. Perhaps that's what Kate Middleton imagined, too, when she first glimpsed William as a 10-year-old schoolgirl.

But being a princess in real life is not so simple. Yes, there are jewels, palaces and handsome princes.

But there is also constant media scrutiny to be wary of, thousands of well-wishers to seem interested in, outfits to get right, stairs to potentially trip on, speeches to bungle, hemlines to be blown by the wind.

There's the certainty that every move you make — every smile, every handshake, every footstep, every hairstyle, every little moment of intimacy with your baby son — will be dissected and judged by millions.

And there is the pressure to live up to the expectations set by your princess forbears, who, in Catherine's case, was the impossibly beautiful, impossibly beloved and impossibly tragic Diana, for whom all this was just too much.
More: The Duchess of Cambridge made being a princess look easy but the Royal tour was less demanding than those of decades ago, writes Jordan Baker |

Wow, 72 hours in 3 weeks.  And I complain about having to work 40 hours every week (which means in the same time frame I worked 120 hours).  However are the little dears going to cope?

PrincessOfPeace

I work 40 hours a week as well but even if I worked around the clock 24/7, I wouldn't want the life of the royals. No amount of money can make up for the pressure and scrutiny they endure. For every hour the Queen or the Prince of Wales or the Duke of Cambridge appears in public countless hours of preparation goes on behind the scenes.

Lothwen

^By members of their staff.   I'm sure their staff worked well over the 72 hours that they did.

But you're right, there's a lot more to being a royal, and I would hate to be scrutinized by the press every time I went out and did my job.

I agree.  I doubt W&K were running around checking the drawers and cupboards to make sure they did not leave anything behind.  This was nothing more than a holiday - IMO.

If it is too much for them, then give it up, say....sod this for a game of soldiers...we're off.

They won't give it up - she did not campaign and hang around for years to give it up now....there is more chance of Kate cutting her hair!
Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me

FanDianaFancy

I forgot on my list...
Yes, the  hours clocked were  indeed  a  lot, but  I am going to estiamte,  half  were  of  fun/touristy  things.

Zoo, rugby game, Ayers  Rock, rafting trip, Easter Church service,  etc.
Other half, hospice visit, laying of wreath  for something,     WWI  military thing, other somber things...etc.

If I had a choice between rich  or  famous, rich/famous, I would pick rich. You can the fame part  no matter what the profession.

QuoteThe Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have proved their relationship is still very much in the honeymoon period during their tour of New Zealand and Australia.
As they prepare to celebrate their third wedding anniversary on Tuesday, the bond between the royal pair seems stronger than ever.
While some couples find their relationship can be strained by having a baby, the arrival of Prince George seems to have brought Kate and Prince William even closer.

As they approach their third wedding anniversary, new parents Kate and William show they are still very much in love on their tour Down Under | Mail

QuoteTony Abbott, the Prime Minister of Australia, pronounced it one of the all-time great royal tours, and as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge set course for home today they will reflect on a job well done over the past three weeks.
The royal couple and their son Prince George left Australia and New Zealand with many memorable moments that will stay with those who witnessed them for the rest of their lives.
The tour not only cemented the two Commonwealth realms' affection for Prince William, but also introduced the Duchess of Cambridge and nine-month-old George to the countries, both of which appear to have taken them to their hearts.

I wonder why NO comments were published for the article...  :hmm: This does not sound like something that would inspire more bad comments than any other article (although the fact that the tour is over and they are still dragging on the umpteenth nonsensical article on it might be a factor...)
"You don't have to be pretty. You don't owe prettiness to anyone. Not to your boyfriend/spouse/partner, not to your co-workers, especially not to random men on the street. You don't owe it to your mother, you don't owe it to your children, you don't owe it to civilization in general. Prettiness is not a rent you pay for occupying a space marked 'female'." This kind of stuff is in demand, especially with DM subscribers. I have all four supplements!  :happy15:

It does seem like a fun thing to do for their readers, and it certainly is appropriate unlike many nonsensical articles they published during the Tour. These actually make sense. These Tours are historic occasions.   I do think the DM is going to go into a Tour withdrawal after this supplement and we will have to run for our lives from the nonsense they will make up!
