An incredible mansion with links to Henry VIII's fifth wife Queen Catherine Howard is set to be transformed from decaying to decadent, after a property developer bought it from the government.

Preston Hall, a magnificent looking 53,686 sq.ft. Grade II listed mansion near Aylesford, Kent, will be turned into flats fit for a king.

The property has been an NHS facility since 1945, but years of neglect had left the grand building needing millions of pounds of refurbishment to get it back into shape. Period features had been painted over and grand Tudor ceilings covered up with, the mansion a shadow of its former glory.

As a result, Preston Hall was deemed surplus to requirements and sold by the Department of Health to Weston Homes for a 'nominal fee'.

The property developer has announced it is going to 'meticulously restore' Preston Hall and convert it into 36 apartments, some with mezzanine levels open to spectacular double height living areas.
