King Charles has unveiled the first completed official portrait of himself since The Coronation, painted by renowned artist Jonathan Yeo.

The portrait was commissioned in 2020 to celebrate the then Prince of Wales's 50 years as a member of The Drapers' Company.

The portrait depicts His Majesty wearing the uniform of the Welsh Guards, of which he was made Regimental Colonel in 1975.

The canvas was carefully considered to fit within the architecture of Drapers' Hall and the context of the paintings it will eventually hang alongside. Report by Matthew Covell.

The King held an Investiture at Windsor Castle this morning.

The King, Freeman, the Worshipful Company of Drapers, accompanied by The Queen, this afternoon received Mr Thomas Harris (Master) at Buckingham Palace when His Majesty unveiled a portrait which had been commissioned by the Worshipful Company.

I have admit that I  don't really care for this portrait.  It's on par with the Danish royal family's strange one that was focused on CP Christian.

I think the King's face is well done. The rest of it, ??? However, I suppose it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks of it. Apparently King Charles found it 'striking' and joked about the butterfly the artist painted on his shoulder. I do think that another background, maybe a dark blue hue might have made a difference.

The King, as Sovereign of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, with The Queen, Grand Master, drove to St Paul's Cathedral this morning to attend a Service of the Order.

Their Majesties were received at the foot of the Cathedral Steps by the Rt Hon the Lord Mayor and at the Great West Door by the Dean of St Paul's, the Chapter, the Bishop of London (Prelate of the Order) and the Lay Officials of the Order.

His Majesty's Body Guard of the Honourable Corps of Gentlemen at Arms and The King's Body Guard of the Yeomen of the Guard were on duty.

The King and Queen gave an Afternoon Party in the garden of Buckingham Palace to celebrate the Creative Industries.

The Duke of Edinburgh and The Duchess of Gloucester were present.

His Majesty's Body Guard of the Honourable Corps of Gentlemen-at-Arms and The King's Body Guard of the Yeomen of the Guard were on duty.

The Band of the Royal Marines Collingwood played selections of music during the afternoon.

Later the Rt Hon Rishi Sunak MP (Prime Minister and First Lord of the Treasury) had an audience of The King.

The King attended a special gala performance at the Royal Opera House in tribute to it's outgoing musical director Sir Antonio Pappano. His Majesty met with Sir Antonio and other performers during his visit to the historic venue in Covent Garden.

His Excellency Mr Ravshan Usmanov was received in audience by The King this afternoon and presented the Letters of Recall of his predecessor and his own Letters of Credence as Ambassador from the Republic of Uzbekistan to the Court of St James's.

Mrs Usmanova was also received by His Majesty.

His Excellency Mr Léopold Tonguenoma Bonkoungou was received in audience by The King and presented the Letters of Recall of his predecessor and his own Letters of Credence as Ambassador from Burkina Faso to the Court of St James's.

Mrs Bonkoungou Ouedraogo was also received by His Majesty.

Sir Philip Barton (Permanent Under-Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs) was present.

The King received representatives from the Sustainable Markets Initiative.

The Rt Hon Mark Drakeford MS was received in audience by His Majesty upon relinquishing his appointment as First Minister of Wales.

The King, Patron, this evening attended a Gala Performance at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London WC2, to mark Sir Antonio Pappano's twenty-two-year tenure as Music Director, and was received by Mr Stuart Shilson (Deputy Lieutenant of Greater London), the Chairman of the Royal Opera House (Sir Lloyd Dorfman) and Mr Alexander Beard (Chief Executive).

The Queen, Patron, the Charleston Trust, this morning visited Charleston Literary Festival, Charleston House, Firle, and, having been received by Mr Graham Peters (Vice Lord-Lieutenant of East Sussex), attended a talk entitled "the Power of Reading" and a Reception.

Her Majesty this afternoon met representatives of local organisations and community groups at the Parish Church of St Mary, Church Square, Rye, and was received by Mrs Sarah Kowitz (Deputy Lieutenant of East Sussex).

The Queen afterwards visited Lamb House, West Street, Rye, and attended a Reception for the EF Benson Society, the Friends of Tilling and National Trust volunteers.

The King and Queen this evening visited the Chelsea Flower Show of the Royal Horticultural Society in the Gardens of the Royal Hospital, Chelsea.

Their Majesties later visited The King's Foundation Exhibition at the Garrison Chapel, Chelsea Barracks, London SW1, and were received by the Chief Operating Officer of The King's Foundation (Ms Emily Cherrington) and Dame Ann Limb (Deputy Chairman).

The Baroness Black of Strome was received by The King this morning when His Majesty invested her with the Insignia of a Lady of the Most Ancient and Most Noble Order of the Thistle.

The Baroness Kennedy of the Shaws was received by The King when His Majesty invested her with the Insignia of a Lady of the Most Ancient and Most Noble Order of the Thistle.

Lieutenant General Sir Benjamin Bathurst was received in audience by The King today and kissed hands upon his appointment as Governor of Gibraltar. Lady Bathurst was also received by His Majesty.

Mr Ross Matthews was received in audience by The King and kissed hands upon his appointment as His Majesty's Ambassador to the Republic of Chad. Mrs Matthews was also received by His Majesty.

Mr Nikesh Mehta was received in audience by The King upon his appointment as British High Commissioner to the Republic of Cameroon. Mrs Mehta was also received by His Majesty.

Mr Peter Vowles was received in audience by The King and kissed hands upon his appointment as His Majesty's Ambassador to the Republic of Zimbabwe. Mrs Vowles was also received by His Majesty.

The Queen this morning visited a domestic violence and abuse support service in London.

Her Majesty, Patron, this evening attended a Reception to mark the Eightieth Anniversary of the Army Benevolent Fund at Apsley House, 149 Piccadilly, Hyde Park Corner, London SW1.

The King this afternoon held a Reception for The Prince's Trust Awards at Buckingham Palace.

His Majesty held a Council at 4.15pm.
There were present: the Rt Hon Penelope Mordaunt MP (Lord President), the Rt Hon Edward Argar MP (Minister for Prisons, Parole and Probation) and the Rt Hon Anne-Marie Trevelyan MP (Minister of State for the Indo-Pacific).

Sir Peter Fraser was sworn in as a member of His Majesty's Most Honourable Privy Council.

The Lord Beckett, the Rt Hon Stephen Flynn MP and the Rt Hon Gavin Robinson MP made affirmation as members of His Majesty's Most Honourable Privy Council.

Mr Richard Tilbrook was in attendance as Clerk of the Council.

The Rt Hon Sir Clive Alderton (Principal Private Secretary to Their Majesties) was in attendance.

The Rt Hon Penelope Mordaunt MP had an audience of The King before the Council.
The Rt Hon Rishi Sunak MP (Prime Minister and First Lord of the Treasury) later had an audience of His Majesty.

The King held a Council at 10.30am.

There were present: the Rt Hon Penelope Mordaunt MP (Lord President), the Rt Hon Victoria Atkins MP (Secretary of State for Health and Social Care), the Rt Hon Alister Jack MP (Secretary of State for Scotland) and the Lord True (Lord Privy Seal and Leader of the House of Lords).

Mr Richard Tilbrook was in attendance as Clerk of the Council.

The Rt Hon Sir Clive Alderton (Principal Private Secretary to Their Majesties) was in attendance.

The Rt Hon Penelope Mordaunt MP had an audience of His Majesty before the Council.

The King, President, The Prince's Trust, received Mr John Booth upon relinquishing his appointment as Chairman and Mr Thomas Ilube upon assuming the appointment.
