^ I suppose in most families 'blood is thicker than water' and close family members are loyal to each other. Since the First World War members of most Royal families began marrying commoners in greater numbers with each generation, so the blood ties that connected one European royal dynasty to another through marriages has become less and less. I do think that in most Royal families members try to protect each other and if bad publicity arises they do their best to help and to stick together. Whether that constitutes the strength of 'blood ties', a desire to protect the 'brand' from harm, or sheer pride, I can't say. Might be a mixture of all three.
