It's a boy!!!!  :congrats: Charles Jean Phillipe Joseph Marie Guillaume. This birth has been long awaited for the couple. From a quick internet search: Charles is a name associated with the Lannoy ancestry. Jean was the name of Guillaume's paternal grandfather. Phillipe was her father's name. Marie is most likely for the Virgin Mary and is nearly always part of the Grand Ducal family  names. Guillaume is for Guillaume. :happy:

Such a cutie!!!   So happy for this couple.  Have a feeling it?s been a long haul for them.  And she really hasn?t had the greatest last few years with her parents both dying.

@Macrobug67 - Yes it has been quite the long haul for Guillaume and Stephanie. Her mother died about a month before their 2012 wedding and her father a few years ago. I was so happy to read their pregnancy announcement in 2019 and now they have their own baby to love.

This is one of the most delightful news I have seen in royals in a long time. I am so happy for both of them and she looks like she just stepped in heaven and found her angel. 

they had to wait such a long time for this baby, that its wonderful for them.  I'm sure they wanted kids anyway and as royals there is an expectation that they would have them.. so to be waiting so long must have been awfully difficult

I like the fact that Charles has Stephanie's father's name of Philippe as one of his middle names. A grand way to honor Grandfather!

I agree, this is a special event for this couple. They waited a long time and finally they had a lovely son. Stephanie seems very happy with her Little Prince. Great news!

The Grand Ducal Court of Luxembourg has announced that Prince Charles of Luxembourg will be christened into the Roman Catholic Church this afternoon.

The christening will take place in the afternoon at the Abbey of St. Maurice and St. Maurus of Clervaux in Clervaux, Luxembourg.

The Grand Ducal Court has announced that his godparents are his paternal uncle, Prince Louis of Luxembourg and his maternal aunt, Countess Gaelle de Lannoy.

Good. Baby Charles is already four months old. AFAIA the Luxembourg royal House doesn't usually wait so long before baptising their offspring. It might be Covid or something internal in the family that's caused a delay.

Charles is a lovely chubby-cheeked baby, and everyone seems very calm and happy. Some members of the family were absent but that's natural in these circumstances.

It seems odd to me, being used to the Prince of Wales, to be referring to a baby Charles, but we'll get used to it!

Stephanie looks so happy.  It is lovely to see. There was a while where she looked deeply unhappy. My speculation it could have been fertility issues.  But what ever it was, she looks completely besotted with her baby and Gui looks over the moon with both.  And what a cutie  :vday2:

On another forum there's been the suggestion that little Charles was actually baptized in the hospital on the same day that he was born and that the ceremony yesterday was more ceremonial. If that is the case, it may have been due to the COVID 19 restrictions that were in place at the time and that the family were unsure when they'd be able to set a date for the sacrament.

That would be a sensible decision in a deeply devout family. 

I was surprised and a little sad to read that this was the first time that little Charles met his grandparents. However Henri and Maria Teresa like so many other grandparents have had to wait to see their newest family additions during this year.

Stephanie looks splendid in that orange dress and little Princess Amalia seems to be wearing the same shade as her aunt.

Its very possible that the baby was privately baptised soon after birth, and this is a christening ceremony where his name is officially given etc.

Charles is a little cutie. Wonder whether he will be their only child? Steph and Gui have been married for many years now and it took a while to have him.

Presumably they have had fertility problems and either they just waited till a baby turned up normally, but it took a long time or they did eventually have soem treatment.. So - its possible that they might have another one naturally, or if they did decide to have fertilty treatment they will do it again

The pattern of Prince Charles' trousers reminds me of a gingham checked pattern.

Charles is indeed a very happy little chap, and he is obviously the centre of his parents? world. I do wonder whether he will ever have any siblings, in spite of difficulties. Obviously one child is enough to secure the succession and Charles is surrounded by cousins etc on family occasions but it would be nice if there was just one more, as with Estelle and Oscar of Sweden.

Look at those cheeks on Prince Charles! When the Dutch royal children were young I'd look forward to the photos/video of the  AAA team and their parents joining in with the crowds to welcome Saint Nicholas make his arrival in November and then to celebrate his day on Dec. 6. However there haven't been photos for many years now.

However I now have another family with a young child who will be celebrating this holiday in the years to come.  :xmas16:

I don't think either  Guillaume nor Stephanie has stopped smiling or glowing since Charles was born, they are beyond thrilled with their son and he is so darn cute.  What a loving family they seem to be, it shows in everything they do.  I love seeing all the pictures of them and what is going on at events.....taking Charles is so wonderful as he will grow to love being in public and seeing the people.

He is so cute. While first Christmas is special, they become more special now as he can really take par.

And yes his parents are always glowing with pride in the photos. That little guy is the light of their life. :hearts: :wub:

It is wonderful that Prince Charles got to see St. Nicholas. In fact, it was two years ago on St.Nicholas Day that the news was declared that Hereditary Grand Duchess Stephanie was expecting a baby.

I like this family so much.  I think it?s because their joy in finally having Charles was so evident.  And I am sure this new one will be just as welcome. 

Cuteness overload warning!!! The HGD family visited a senior home together.  :wub: :vday2:  I am stunned by the transformation of Guillaume and Stephanie since they announced they were expecting Charles. Both of them have this inner glow and contentment around them. Now knowing that there's to be a second child coming they cannot contain their joy.

That was perfect visit. The seniors were so delighted to spend time with him. Like  a grandson vissiting.

It?s good that GD Henri made the change though I suppose in reality the Luxembourg RF don?t suffer from a scarcity of sons especially with the latest edition! It will probably be a quarter of a century or more before Charles has any progeny.
I wonder what Felix feels about it all? Relief, happiness, a bit of disappointment that after many years his brother, the heir, had a child, and now he?s fourth in the succession. A little bit of everything, perhaps. But that?s the way it goes with royal families.

Outside of Sweden, changing primogeniture not really a matter of concern for lack of male heirs. Its more a modernising the monarchy move.

Not shocking the Lux royals joined the ranks of most of the European monarchies in changing an outdated law. Liechtenstein is the only current royal house (not former still using title) that doesn't at least have male-preference (in Europe).

What is surprising, is that they did it retroactively, something only Belgium has done before them. Sweden confuses people as Victoria bumped Carl Philip. But in reality like the UK, in Sweden the change was simply dated to the start of the law change. Which was prior to Victoria's birth. Belgium on the other hand changed the law in 1991 where it applied to the children of Albert. At that point a 28 year old Laurent who had been third in line behind his father and older brother, was bumped to 7th behind Astrid and her three children at the time.

In both Luxembourg and Belgian cases though it made little issue to do retroactively. Sebastian was even less likely to come to the the throne then Laurent was, when he got displaced a step by Alexandra.


As for Felix being disappointed, unless he has some Scar tendencies, I doubt there was much disappointment. When you are the second child, you grow up with the thought your older sibling is going to have kids and displace you as heir. Always exceptions like in Belgium, but its not something most people would count on. Likely happy there was no need for him to give up his private life, or for his kids to.

With the Danes it has nothing to do with the queen's approval, Perhaps you are thinking the UK.

The Danes they are following an old church ritual/superstition. Used to be tradition that you never mentioned the baby's name before right before they are baptised in the church. Not even in private. The royal family holds to his old tradition even now. Other royal families like the Brits announce when they have chosen a name and feel like sharing it.

So excited to see the first photos of the family of four  :flower3: :hearts: Little Francois is a heart breaker like his brother.

I hope in a few days we get some nice photos of Charles with Francois. At home where he is more comfortable, not having media shoved in his face. He looked a bit more startled and unsure then anything in this. Having baby brother home, and secure in their home, will be different.

Alexandra no surprise. After using his brother and her sister last time, predictable they switched and Alexandra was the only option. There are a few choices of brothers on her side though. Christian is her second eldest.

Yes the photos ARE lovely and now I expect Stephanie and GUI?s family is complete, even though both come from decent sized families themselves. Perhaps Alexandra and her husband Nicholas will be next to produce offspring or perhaps Nicholas will be available for godfatherly duties if there is a third time for the Hereditary Ducal couple! 

It took them about 7 years to produce the first baby, so I doubt if they are going ot have more.  Probably, they did not wnat, as strict Catholics to have fertility treatment and then in the end either they had it, or they were lucky and Stephanie became pregnant naturally

Yes that is true and one or the other of them or both probably did suffer from low fertility in the past. On the one hand Stephanie is about 39 now and they both may be quite satisfied with two little boys. On the other they both come from big families themselves, they are strict Catholics and it?s always been said that people sometimes fall pregnant again shortly after a birth. We will just have to see, I guess.

And a very cute baby he is! I think Francois definitely has his mother?s eyes. The two little brothers probably have great times together. A lovely little family. 

I'm guessing that Charles is now in a pre-school program because his baby brother is now accompanying his parents.
