Yes, Elizabeth is going to be a lovely young woman. The family of Philippe and Matilde has always seemed close, I think. In terms of royals you remember from babies shooting up into teenagerhood the biggest shock for me was seeing the latest set of photos of Prince Christian of Denmark.

King Philippe sends message to the young during Christmas Eve address ? Royal Central :xmas22:

King Philippe of the Belgians has delivered his annual Christmas Eve address in Dutch, French and German ? the three languages of Belgium.

The King spoke of how this year the Christmas celebrations are different and how the world is facing challenges during this pandemic. However, he also spoke of the hope we have for the future where we can once again get out and spend time with our loved ones. He also spoke directly to the young people of Belgium and encouraged them to make their dreams come true.

He said: ?This year everything is different. Tonight we celebrate Christmas in our bubble, or alone. Because we have to keep it safe. Fortunately, love and friendship can bridge any distance.

A frightening incident involving King Phillipe.

King Philippe caught up in Brussels demonstration ? Royal Central

The Belgian monarch had a dramatic evening as he drove through his nation?s capital. King Philippe?s car, a black Mercedes with the famous royal number plate 1, drove straight into a violent demonstration and was briefly trapped in a crowd as young people took to the streets against the Belgian police. The Belgian press published a photograph showing the car in the middle of the protests which took place on January 13th 2021.

The protesters? aggression was directed at the Belgian police. It is uncertain whether the king?s car was driving alone or whether it was escorted by other cars from the royal police protection. Witnesses at the scene were unsure whether there were very many who actually knew that it was the nation?s monarch who was sitting in the car. After a short pause inside the demonstration, the car drove away quickly. Those inside the vehicle weren?t hurt.

Surely the Brussels police had some foreknowledge of this demonstration? It seems odd if they didn't or if they did why they didn't check at the Palace that neither the King not Queen would be likely to be caught in it. Was Philippe going to or returning from some function perhaps? If it was just a private visit to friends it's a bit careless to follow that particular route.

Still, these things happen. Remember some years back Charles and Camilla got caught up in something similar in London on their way to an evening engagement, only in their case they were noticed and demonstrators banged on the car as I recollect.

Well, Philippe obviously wasn't staying home if his car was caught in the demonstration, unless members of his family were using his car for some reason. Royals do go out in the evenings to attend functions, even in these Covid times, and go out to private appointments. I just question why the Palace/King isn't  informed about likely demonstrations.

Queen Mathilde?s visit to teenage mothers praised for bringing their story ?out of the shadows? ? Royal Central

Speaking to the Belgian newspaper La Derni?re Heure, Gr?gory Vacoillie, one of Le Tobbogan?s educators said that ?It was an honour for us to welcome the Queen. Her coming is recognition of all these years of working in the shadows. She made us feel at ease after three minutes, it was really nice.?

Queen Mathilde?s visit was also inspired by the way the coronavirus pandemic has disrupted the lives of the young women in need of Le Toboggan?s services, which she took time to discuss with the staff and women there.

Vacoillie told the newspaper that, during the lockdowns, ?We advised the young girls remotely by phone or video. It is a different organization but we nevertheless managed well in this unprecedented situation.?

Director Fabienne Jeanson noted that Queen Mathilde ?was curious?especially to know how it goes on a daily basis for mothers. She talked to them and tried to understand the help that is being given here.?

One of the young mothers said that Queen Mathilde?s visit ?moved me. I had never seen someone from the royal family. It was a good experience because she really listens and we were even able to ask her questions too.?

King Philippe praised the role Belgium is playing in COVID-19 vaccinations in a New Year?s speech on Thursday, saying that the ?whole world is watching and counting on us.?

In his virtual remarks, delivered online due to coronavirus restrictions, the Belgian monarch said: ?Foreign interlocutors thank me and congratulate me on the crucial role that Belgium plays in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic. It is with pride that I relay these congratulations and thanks to you, which are addressed to all the authorities and the country.

?In fact, our country is today at the centre of vaccination operations around the world, thanks to its contribution to the development, production and distribution of vaccines against the coronavirus. This is not the result of chance, but the result of a long-term vision and strategy. It is also the result of the remarkable cooperation between authorities and universities, between the public sector and industry. We can be proud of it. It is also a great responsibility. The whole world is watching and counting on us.?

Princess Delphine is the recently recognized daughter of King Albert and the half-sister to his three children with Queen Paola. I have to say that I continue to be very impressed with how King Phillipe is including her in more royal activities.

King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of the Belgians visited a pharmacy on Wednesday to see the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic on the industry.

Their Majesties spoke to employees at the Pharma Haelvoet pharmacy in Evere, as well as pharmacists from Eeklo in East Flanders and Tertre in Hainaut, about the crucial role they have played in combating the pandemic. They also discussed pharmacists learning to distribute the jab at vaccination centres.
