While I do miss the sights of a full House of Commons and Lords with HM in her crown, it's still wonderful to see this most important event happening again. This is HM's first public duty since the death of the DoE.

The 95-year-old Queen prepares to increase her workload so she can ?get back out and about? ? Royal Central (https://royalcentral.co.uk/uk/queen/the-95-year-old-queen-prepares-to-increase-her-workload-so-she-can-get-back-out-and-about-160868/)

Over the coming weeks, we can expect a series of high profile engagements to be announced, including a meeting with President Biden of the United States and other world leaders ahead the G7 summit.

Her Majesty is also expected to return to Scotland shortly, conducting a week long itinerary of engagements there, alongside a few other high profile events.

A royal insider told the Daily Telegraph: ?There is a strong desire from Her Majesty to get back out and about.?

There has long been chatter and speculation in royal circles that The Queen might wish to start taking things more slowly once she reaches 95, perhaps even making Prince Charles regent.

However, it seems nothing could be further from the truth, with The Queen set to have a busy second half of the year depending on government restrictions.

**It's the time of the year for new or extended (2 more years) for ambassadors representing their country in the UK. I believe this is the first ambassador to be live in Windsor Castle, the CC have ambassadors via video conference. The PM Australia was at the G7, but it may be the time now to receive people there in lieu of BP (repairs).

Scott Morrison likes the Queen and gets on well with her. There won?t be any serious moves towards a republic here while she lives and the Republican leaders know it. Too many other things on our minds. However, once Elizabeth goes all bets are off, and most Aussies know that too.

Meeting again in person for the first time in fifteen months. Both have had significant milestones in their personal lives. QEII was widowed but has welcomed her 9th, 10th and 11th great-grandchildren. Soon it will be an even dozen! Johnson has battled COVID 19, welcomed another child and married again.

Yes, it?s been a memorable year for both of them, dominated for the Queen of course by the loss of her husband of nearly 74 years. However how many times does a PM marry while in office, let alone have a baby! Blair had an addition to the family while in office and before that I think it was John Russell in the 1840s. And as for monarchs? great grandchildren, four in one year hasn?t happened since Queen Victoria!

Queen still plans to attend State Opening of Parliament next week but walking will be minimised | Daily Mail Online (https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10787557/Queen-plans-attend-State-Opening-Parliament-week-walking-minimised.html)
Palace says HM Queen Elizabeth II can?t walk longer distance remember 1953 just short walk

https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-61342889

QuoteBut measures are in place to minimise the distance she would have to walk.

There will also be a slimmed down - but still spectacular - military ceremony with fewer troops but the same standards of pomp and military splendour involving eight different units, including The King?s Troop Royal Horse Artillery and The Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment.

She no longer wears her Imperial Crown or Robes of State given their weight and awkwardness and instead wears smart day dress.

In 2016 the Queen used a lift rather than the stairs for the State Opening of Parliament for the first time in 64 years.

The Queen intends to play her full constitutional role at the State Opening of Parliament, even as she signals the end of an era by stepping back from hosting her Buckingham Palace garden parties.
The monarch hopes to read her customary speech to open Parliament on Tuesday, as aides insert "tweaks" to the traditional ceremonial for her comfort.
She will travel by car to the Houses of Parliament, use stairs instead of a lift, wear day dress without a heavy crown and walk as short a route as possible.
It is understood measures will be put in place for the tactful filming of her entrance and exit, with part of the walk shielded from cameras and the event now pared back as much as possible.

Short videos from today's State Opening of Parliament.  Fashion update for the Duchess of Cornwall who is wearing a familiar navy blue dress, coat with white detailing and navy blue hat. The gentleman are both wearing their Orders of the Garter.   As you view the procession you can see the various regiments posted along the way. At one point they traveled through Horse Guard's Parade Ground. Upon the arrival at Palace of Westminster there's a large scaffolding structure that covers most of the exterior  so I presume there is a massive cleaning/restoration project that is taking place.

Yes, it is quite similar, though with less pomp and ceremony as we are quite a young country!  Black Rod still performs his/her duties as he/her does in London and the Senate is summoned to attend the House of Representatives (our Lower House.). The Queen has opened our Parliament at least twice in person, the first time in February 1954 on the first long Commonwealth tour of her reign.

The Governor General does everything the Queen does at the Opening, including reading the Speech from the Throne. He/she also performs other duties here, like the swearing-in of new Members of the House of Representatives and Senators, because of course we have a House of Reps and a Senate not a Commons and House of Lords. That ceremony takes place at the same time as the Opening one.

From the Handbook

Opening a new parliament
A new Parliament starts with an opening ceremony that includes some traditional practices borrowed from the British Parliament. One such practice is that the new Parliament is declared open by the Governor-General in the Senate, not the House of Representatives. This is so the Governor-General can attend and deliver a speech.

This tradition dates back to the practice of the British Parliament in which, since the seventeenth century, the monarch has not entered the House of Commons. In Australia, the Governor-General does not enter the House of Representatives.

An important part of the opening ceremony is the swearing-in of all members of the House of Representatives, as well as the 4 senators elected to represent the Australian Capital Territory and Northern Territory. New state senators begin their term of office on 1 July following a half-Senate election. After a double dissolution election, new state senators have their term of office backdated to 1 July before the election.

A modern addition to the opening of a new Parliament is an Aboriginal Welcome to Country ceremony, which was held for the first time in February 2008 before the opening of the 42nd Parliament.

The same sort of thing happens in our State legislatures, though there is no Senate and some States don?t have an Upper Chamber. It is opened as the Federal Parliament is in Canberra. This is what happens here in Victoria, which does have an Upper Chamber, the Legislative Council.

Our States of course date from old colonial days, before Federation in 1901, and some are older than others. The legislation making Australia a Federation and Commonwealth (a country in other words) was signed by Queen Victoria in 1901, shortly before she died.

This is what occurs at all the Opening of State Parliaments though the info below is specific to Victoria. As with Federal Parliament the Opening is televised.

The Governor is the representative of the Crown in Victoria?s Parliamentary system. Under the Victorian Constitution, Victoria?s Parliamentary structure comprises the Crown, the Legislative Council, and the Legislative Assembly.

The Governor?s constitutional duties for the Opening of Parliament include setting a date for an Opening, appointing Commissioners on her behalf to swear in Members, and reading a Speech which has been prepared by the Government, outlining the Government's proposed legislative program for the next four years.

The Opening of Parliament will be webcast, with official ceremonies commencing at 10am. The formal Opening by the Governor will be at 2 pm and, by tradition, will be in the Legislative Council Chamber.

I feel so bad for them all. She would surely have fulfilled this important function if she was able. Obviously they are deeply affected by the enormity of it as well as what lies ahead. It would be surprising if they were not scared and sad.

Pick of the Day from the Guardian?s comments section

?Today a priceless crown with a 317-carat diamond and 400 other jewels was driven in a custom-made Rolls Royce to a huge palace, where it was placed next to a gold chair in which sat one of the world's richest men, who told 2 million hungry Britons there's not enough money to help feed them.?

The Prince of Wales and The Duke of Cambridge, acting in their capacity as Counsellors of State for The Queen, accompanied by The Duchess of Cornwall, travelled to the Palace of Westminster this morning to open the Session of Parliament and were received at the Sovereign?s Entrance by the Marquess of Cholmondeley (Lord Great Chamberlain) and the Duke of Norfolk (Earl Marshal).

Sarah Vines gets it right,

"She has been our compass, our guide, our one true anchor. I am sure, in time, we will get used to her absences.

But life will never be the same."

I don't think the Queen will ever abdicate the throne. I think she will honor her royal duty by remaining in her position until her last breath, her last display of commitment to England.

I?m agreed with that but HM Queen Elizabeth II still in charge till she died but when her uncle the former king Edward VIII abdicated in 1936 when young Queen Elizabeth II was ten years old and HM Queen Elizabeth II vowed wouldn?t abdicated like her uncle the former king Edward VIII im learned from parliament HM Queen Elizabeth II bowed out for traditional state opening of parliament speech due her health and mobility issues the Queen Elizabeth II sent her elder son the Prince Charles and grandson the Duke of Cambridge in her behalf
