The Queen, accompanied by The Princess Royal, this morning visited Edinburgh Climate Change Institute, High School Yards, Infirmary Street, Edinburgh, and was received by Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant of the City of Edinburgh (Councillor Francis Ross, the Rt Hon the Lord Provost) and the Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Edinburgh (Professor Peter Mathieson).

Her Majesty and Her Royal Highness, escorted respectively by Professor David Reay (Executive Director) and Dr Katherine Crowley (Co-Director), toured the Institute, meeting staff and students and viewing demonstrations, before meeting representatives from the Children?s Parliament who presented a commemorative tree to Her Majesty which will be planted in the grounds as part of The Queen?s Green Canopy.

Dr Angela Merkel (Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany) was received by The Queen this afternoon.

Her Majesty held a Council via video link at 4.45 pm.

There were present: the Rt Hon Jacob Rees-Mogg MP (Lord President), the Rt Hon Robert Buckland MP (Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice), the Baroness Evans of Bowes Park (Leader of the House of Lords and Lord Privy Seal), the Rt Hon Grant Shapps MP (Secretary of State for Transport) and the Rt Hon Sajid Javid MP.

The Rt Hon Sajid Javid MP made affirmation as Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, kissed hands upon his appointment and received the Seals of Office.

Mr Richard Tilbrook was in attendance as Clerk of the Council.

His Excellency Mr Papa Owusu-Ankomah was received in audience by The Queen today via video link and presented the Letters of Recall of his predecessor and his own Letters of Commission as High Commissioner for the Republic of Ghana in London.

His Excellency Mr Mohsen Baharvand was received in audience by Her Majesty via video link and presented the Letters of Recall of his predecessor and his own Letters of Credence as Ambassador from the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Court of St James's.

Sir Philip Barton (Permanent Under-Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs) was present.

His Excellency Mr Zheng Zeguang was received in audience by The Queen via video link and presented the Letters of Recall of his predecessor and his own Letters of Credence as Ambassador from the People?s Republic of China to the Court of St James's.

Mrs Hua Mei was also received by Her Majesty.

The Queen this morning arrived at Manchester Victoria Railway Station and was received by Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant of Greater Manchester (Sir Warren Smith), the Lord Mayor of Manchester (Councillor Thomas Judge) and the Mayor of Trafford (Councillor Laurence Walsh).

Her Majesty drove to the set of "Coronation Street" at ITV Studios, Coronation Street, Trafford Wharf Road, Trafford Park, Manchester, to mark their Sixtieth Anniversary and was received by Mrs Sharman Birtles (Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Greater Manchester).

The Queen, escorted by Mr Iain Macleod (Series Producer), walked along "Coronation Street", meeting members of the cast and crew, before being received by Dame Carolyn McCall (Chief Executive Officer, ITV plc) and meeting further members of the cast in the "Rovers Return".

Her Majesty afterwards visited Manchester Cathedral to mark the Six Hundredth Anniversary of the Cathedral and was received by the Dean (the Very Reverend Roger Govender) and the Bishop of Manchester (the Right Reverend Dr David Walker), before meeting members of the Cathedral community.

The Queen, escorted by Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant of Greater Manchester, moved into the gardens and met the Lord-Lieutenants of Cheshire and Cumbria, the Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Lancashire and a Deputy Lieutenant of Merseyside and members of their respective communities.

The Princess Royal, on behalf of The Queen, held an Investiture at St James's Palace this morning.

Her Majesty, Duke of Lancaster this afternoon held a Meeting with Sir Alan Reid (Chairman of the Council of the Duchy of Lancaster) and Mr Nathan Thompson (Chief Executive Officer) via telephone.

By command of The Queen, Mr Alistair Harrison (Marshal of the Diplomatic Corps) called upon His Excellency Mr Yousef Ali Al-Khater at 1 South Audley Street, London W1, this morning in order to bid farewell to His Excellency upon relinquishing his appointment as Ambassador from the State of Qatar to the Court of St James's.

The following members of The Queen's Body Guard of the Yeomen of the Guard were received by Her Majesty today: Colonel Michael Kingscote, who delivered up his Stick of Office upon his retirement as Lieutenant when The Queen invested him with the Insignia of a Lieutenant of the Royal Victorian Order; Major Henry Robertson, who delivered up his Stick of Office as Clerk of the Cheque and Adjutant and received his Stick of Office upon his appointment as Lieutenant; Major Christopher Cox, who delivered up his Stick of Office as Ensign and received his Stick of Office upon his appointment as Clerk of the Cheque and Adjutant; Colonel Jonathan Schute, who delivered up his Stick of Office as Exon and received his Stick of Office upon his appointment as Ensign; and Brigadier Andrew Hughes, who received his Stick of Office upon his appointment as Exon.
