[AbsolutelyWilliam] Hospital's royal link maintained

The Duke of York is to be the patron of the Royal National Orthopaedic Trust, succeeding his grandmother, the late Queen Mother.

Royal connections with the hospital in Brockley Hill, Stanmore, date back to early in the last century, when King George and Queen Mary were its patrons.

The hospital has recently received the support of the Prince of Wales and the Princess Royal. The then Lady Diana Spencer opened its spinal injuries unit shortly before her marriage to Prince Charles.

Five years ago, the Duke officially opened the national training centre of the spinal injuries charity Aspire, which is based at the hospital, and in October, his 12-year-old daughter, Princess Eugenie, underwent spinal surgery at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH).

Trust chairman Donald Hoodless said; "I am delighted that the Duke has agreed to become our patron as we move forward with our plans to re- develop our hospital."

The hospital will launch a ?10million rebuilding appeal in September.
