QuoteRoyal Collection Trust has announced its programme of exhibitions and displays at the royal residences and The Queen's Galleries for the year ahead.  Highlights of the programme include a special display to mark the bicentenary of the Battle of Waterloo, an exhibition revealing the ways in which gardens have been celebrated in art over 400 years, and the first ever exhibition solely devoted to Scottish art in the Royal Collection.

The Queen's Gallery, Buckingham Palace
Opening in November, Cairo to Constantinople: Early Photographs of the Middle East will chart the Prince of Wales' (later King Edward VII) 1862 royal tour of the Middle East. Through photographs of the tour captured by royal photographer Francis Bedford, and objects collected by the Prince on his travels, the exhibition explores Victorian perceptions of a region which was then as complex and contested as it remains today.  Shown alongside Cairo to Constantinople will be Gold, which will bring together items drawn from across the entire breadth of the Royal Collection to celebrate the beauty and symbolism of this rare and precious metal from the Early Bronze Age to the 20th century.

During December, the State Apartments at Windsor Castle and the Palace of Holyroodhouse will be transformed with festive decorations, offering visitors a taste of Christmas at the royal residences.  At Windsor Castle where monarchs have celebrated Christmas for over 900 years, a table in the State Dining Room set for a seasonal feast with glittering silver-gilt from the Grand Service will take centre stage.  'A Royal Christmas' at the Palace of Holyroodhouse will see the table in the Palace's Royal Dining Room laid with a silver service.  Made in Edinburgh, the service was commissioned specifically for use at the Palace of Holyroodhouse, with each piece engraved with the Scottish Coat of Arms.
