Woman Gored by Elephant Sues Father of William's Girl

BERNARD GINNS and IAN GALLAGHER

The father of Jessica Craig, one of Prince William's closest female
friends, is being sued for 760,000 by a diplomat's wife who was gored
by an elephant.

Wendy Martin, 42, suffered horrific injuries when she was attacked by
the three-ton beast while staying at the exclusive Il Ngwesi Lodge in
Kenya. She is suing wealthy conservationist and lodge director Ian
Craig, the father of Africanborn 'Jecca', who has been romantically
linked to William. The Prince has stayed at the lodge.

Mother-of-three Mrs Martin made her visit in June 2000 and went
jogging, assuming that guards would follow her. They didn't and the
elephant attacked, impaling her and hurling her to the ground where
she was trampled.

The excruciating agony and terror will stay with me for the rest of
my life,' Mrs Martin told The Mail on Sunday. Her pelvis was
shattered, she lost a kidney and has since had 13 operations. She
claims staff should not have let her go running or armed guards
should have accompanied her.

Mrs Martin, who lives near Guildford, Surrey, says she can no longer
work as a physiotherapist.

Lodge manager Jonathan Kip said: 'We had no idea she intended to go
out jogging. She went out without guards, against our instructions,
and without telling us where she was going.' Mr Craig declined to
comment on the case.
