These are excellent Windsor. Hoping to catch episode 3 tomorrow. Side note: I loved Princess Beatrice giving a tour of the little Welsh cottage on the Windsor Grounds. She shared that Savannah had begun to play there just like all of the Queen's children and grandchildren had in years past.

Queen Elizabeth II did not use the Gold State Coach for her Diamond Jubilee. Which coach will she use for her Platinum Jubilee?

I can't see the Queen using a coach of any kind during the Platinum Jubliee. She will then be 96 years old and apparently riding in those things as well as in the elderly RF carriages isn't exactly a joy, being somewhat akin to riding a camel, with a sideways sway as well as forwards, plus little comfort in the hard padded seats.

BP is being incredibly optimistic in a way in announcing these celebrations. Elizabeth II may be still with us at 96, she may not. Her consort certainly won't be riding beside her if he is still alive. She may be physically active and compos mentis, on the other hand she might not.

If all is well it will be a marvellous historic occasion for Great Britain and her Commonwealth. However to be pencilling in activities for HM in celebrating it in 2022 seems to me just a bit premature.

Plans for the Queen's Jubilee include a tree planting campaign for a Green Canopy.

That little PR exercise was before she went to Malta to spend time with Philip, returned to Britain and preferred attending the races to going home to see her son on his 2nd birthday. The Queen was terrified of Charles?s first nanny Nurse Lightbody who ruled the nursery with a rod of iron.

Daily contact between the Queen and her children when they were small was minimal. Sometimes she would bathe Charles and Anne, sometimes they would go to their parents room for an hour before tea. Thank God that sort of upbringing has gone. And it was Diana who opened that particular locked door in royal life.

Very much an English upper crust way of child rearing. 

My family may not have status or money but I grew up with parents, aunties, uncles and grandparents that were thrilled to spend time with me.   I am the lucky one.

Her Majesty The Queen will celebrate her Platinum Jubilee from Thursday 2nd - Sunday 5th June 2022.

A major exhibition at the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich and in collaboration with the National Portrait Gallery has opened for the Queen's Jubilee Year. Yes, including works by Holbein, that gifted artist and recorder. of Tudor Courts, royals and courtiers. And Harry and Meghan?s wedding photo is there as well, no doubt disappointing those who wish to have them treated as lepers!

Happy that the portraits of the Tudors and the Stuarts survived the the Civil War and will be on display with the other  paintings and photographs.

Yes, and the great fire in 1698 that consumed much of the Palace of Whitehall of the time. Of course Charles II and several of his courtiers did buy quite a few paintings from Charles I?s magnificent art collection that had been dispersed all over Europe after the King?s execution, but others were lost forever to the Louvre and other great European collections.

The Dean of York, the Right Reverend Dr Jonathan Frost and stone mason Richard Bossons, today unveiled the final detail of Richard's design for a new statue of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II for York Minster.  Once completed, the statue will be placed in an empty niche adjacent to the South West Door on the West Front of the 800 year-old cathedral.

The new statue will mark the Queen's Platinum Jubilee - the 70th anniversary of her accession to the throne in 1952 - and pays tribute to her long life of faithful service and duty to her country and to the Commonwealth.

I don?t know whether there are any living VCs in Canada, but there are several in Australia and New Zealand. As both these countries have the Queen as HOS and, before the military honours system was reorganised VCs were awarded to men in the armed services of all the realms in the same way as British recipients, I wonder whether they will be getting these Medals as well.

Official information source for the Jubilee has no mention of who will "front the celebrations."
However, should HM's health continue to be a concern then I would expect to see the Charles accompanied by Camilla and taking the lead when necessary. Likewise we might see William/Catherine, Edward/Sophie, Anne/Timothy and possibly HM's cousins taking on some more representational duties if she can't be physically present.

A huge national pudding competition will make up some of the celebrations, while thousands of jubilee lunches will be held to honour Britain's longest ever reigning monarch.

The May Bank Holiday Weekend - which usually falls at the end of the month - will be moved to Thursday June 2 to fit in festivities.

And the weekend will be extended with an extra day off on Friday, June 3.

Swedish Princess Cake

This classic Scandinavian layer cake is named in honour of the Swedish princesses who enjoyed the dessert: Princess Margaretha, Princess M?rtha and Princess Astrid. Created in 1948 by Jenny ?kerstr?m, a teacher of the children of Prince Carl, Duke of V?sterg?tland, and featured in the Prinsessornas kokbok, Swedish Princess Cake is a layered sponge cake, raspberry jam, and a custard covered in green marzipan, powdered sugar, and pink marzipan rose.

Victoria Sponge Cake

This classic English teatime cake is named after the queen who enjoyed it: Queen Victoria. Consisting of two layers of sponge cake with jam or whipped cream spread in between and dusted with sugar, the treat became a favourite of hers after she decamped to Osborne House when Prince Albert died. A friend, Anne Russell, the 7th Duchess of Bedford, is credited with creating the idea of tea time in the United Kingdom and introduced Queen Victoria to the sweet.

Battenberg Cake

Battenberg Cake may have been created to celebrate the wedding of Princess Victoria to Prince Louis of Battenberg in 1884, but the exact origins of the recipe are unclear. The four panels are alternating yellow and pink sponge cake, ?glued together? with jam and then covered entirely in marzipan.

Wilhelmina Peppermints

Wilhelmina Peppermints have been in production since 1892, named after the popular Dutch Queen and featuring her portrait on every single candy. The candy makers Fortuin created the peppermint as a way to mark their 50th anniversary while also celebrating Queen Wilhelmina?s 12th birthday.

Queen Wilhelmina received the first box of Wilhelmina Peppermints in the Netherlands and loved them so much that Fortuin later became an official court purveyor in 1896. Now the classic peppermint is sold around the world.
Kaiser Rolls

Kaiser Rolls originated in Austria in the 18th century and are said to be named in honour of Kaiser Franz Joseph of Austria, who ruled from 1848-1916. A traditional Kaiser roll features five segments with cuts in the top of the roll to resemble a crown once baked.

Actually, apart from members of Queen Victoria?s family and her direct descendants, Victoria wasn?t a particularly popular name for girls in Victorian Britain and the realms.

This has always somewhat surprised historians, who?ve speculated about the cause. Early on it was of course regarded as a foreign name, later on there seems to have been a feeling of presumption, almost of lese majeste by parents in naming girls after the great Queen. There appears to have been a bit of a spike after national victories like the Crimean and Boer Wars, but that?s it.

(And although Elizabeth and especially its shortening, ?Betty?, was quite common in the 1930s to mid 1950s, this Queen?s name hasn?t been extraordinarily popular either among her subjects either, perhaps especially surprising in jubilee years since the 1970s. Lovely new photo of the queen that was released. This weekend was likely very hard though. THough celebration for everyone on her being queen its still a hard reminder of the early loss of her dad. And its the first time Philip hasn't been at her side through it.

Hopefully the current buzz over the future coronation will die down. What we have right now is inappropriate media hype, and it isn't fair. The jubilee is exciting, as is the Queen's genetic longevity and the way she has taken care of her health. That is the bigger news, because we may well have her for several years yet. And no problem with giving her some space and opportunities to slow down her pace, as almost everyone is there to lift her "workload" as needed.

The parade for the Pageant will have four separate sections. The first will be called ?For Queen and Country? and will feature over 2,000 serving military personnel. The second part is known as ?The Time of Our Lives? and will see thousands in vintage clothes and in classic vehicles painting a vivid image of The Queen?s reign. The third part will see twelve artistic organisations portraying one element of The Queen?s popular image. This section, called ?Celebration? already promises giant corgi puppets as part of the show. The last element is the surprise package.

Plans are already well developed and now organisers are appealing for people to take part in the Pageant. They want anyone with a car or motorbike from the past 70 years or with original vintage clothing from any part of The Queen?s reign to get in touch to become part of the celebration. As planting season came to an end, on March 31st 2022, The Queen issued a message of thanks to all those who have rooted a tree for her special celebrations.

Among those rooting a tree on the final day of the season was the Prime Minister. Boris Johnson was joined by children from Sholing Junior School in Southampton to plant in the gardens of 10 Downing Street.

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, planted a tree at Gascoigne Primary School in Barking as the final hours of the season unfolded.

Planting season began in October with The Queen and the Prince of Wales dedicating at tree on the Balmoral Estate. Since then, hundreds of thousands of schools, community groups and organisations as well as individuals have planted a tree for the Jubilee leading to over a million new plants taking root.

As planting season came to an end, The Queen issued a message of thanks, saying ?As the planting season draws to a close, I send my sincere thanks to everyone across the country who has planted a tree to celebrate my Platinum Jubilee. There have been a few reports that HM has invited the Duke and Duchess of Sussex along with their children to join in at the traditional balcony appearance for her Platinum Jubilee. The Sussexes would also be invited to the Service of Thanksgiving to be held at St. Paul's Cathedral.  However the couple will reportedly not be involved with the Trooping the Color ceremonial carriage procession or other formal events associated with the Jubilee.

I could definitely see HM inviting the Sussexes even though they're no longer official representatives of the monarchy and government to join in with the wider extended BRF who are often seen at these larger family events especially HM's Jubilees. Typically the vast majority of the people on the balcony do not perform royal duties but are most certainly part of her family.

We'll have to wait and see if the Sussexes feel safe with the security arrangements that would be provided for the events.

Well, Harry more or less preempted this a couple of days ago by announcing that he will be playing with his Californian polo team in June. And the announcement about non working royals not being on the balcony means that the vast majority of the Queen?s grandchildren won?t be there either. No Zara, no Yorkies, no Peter Phillips etc. And presumably no Wessex children as Louise at least is old enough to begin royal duties at eighteen but has so far chosen to not do so.

Now we know who will participate in the the balcony line up and that the Sussexes and their two children will be coming to the UK for the Platinum Jubilee.
I believe that the balcony decision is a wise one and preferable to what we saw during the Diamond Jubilee that featured only QEII, PoW, DssoC, Cambridges and PH. This time it honors those members who represent the monarchy and the United Kingdom including the Gloucesters, Kents and Cmdr Timothy Laurence. Not surprised that the Cambridge children will be there but I'm happy to see HM's youngest grandchildren Louise and James are included.

I believe that the wider extended BRF will be present for more casual activities as well as at the Service of Thanksgiving with great grandchildren over the age of six likely to be included much like we saw at the DoE's memorial.

The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester are in their 70s (older than Charles) and their duty calendar is hardly filled to the brim during the year. Their future royal roles are unlikely to be decades long.

Timothy Lawrence doesn?t represent the Queen much at all, just accompanies his wife who is herself 72 this year. It?s unlikely that Anne will be bringing out the crowds in huge numbers anyway. Same with the Wessex couple.

I expect that we'll see a larger family representation at  the Service of Thanksgiving and at the Pageant. I also wouldn't be surprised if there's a series of photos to be taken.

Well, in my view they can?t. Attrition and I believe, an evolving view of the RF among the British public in the next generation or two, will mean that in the future just the monarch and consort and heir and wife will be fulltime royals. The rest will have their own careers and private lives.

Well it seems reasonable that the Sussexes should stay at FC so I expect that the Brooksbanks family will just stay at Royal Lodge Windsor during that time.

^^Interesting article from The Guardian, I think there is a lot of long term tweaking that has to happen and be done not only from the monarchy but the government to embrace everyone (not that the UK is the only one at fault here, but basically the entire western world, and I mean like the article says, they can't ignore the woke, I've said it in the political threads).

Because of the Jubilee, very likely the last huge celebration to be, they have a task of tweaking more imminent and soon to be things that will be happening, the destiny/fate of those things can be changed to a positive IF both BRF and Gov really want it to happen.  I know they are right now at a point of 'loggerheads' to at least 2 very important events/issues because of politics.
