The Duchess of Cornwall has challenged schoolchildren to come up with the modern equivalent of Coronation Chicken to mark the Queen's jubilee.

The duchess is inviting schoolchildren from around the country to create a special menu fit for the Queen in celebration of her 60 years on the throne. She launched British Food Fortnight's Cook For The Queen's Diamond Jubilee competition during a visit to Swindon, Wiltshire, where she toured a school's food technology laboratory.

In 1953 Coronation Chicken was invented by Constance Spry and served at the Queen's Coronation lunch. Now students are being asked to put together a menu featuring the best of British which will be served to the Queen and the Duchess at a reception at Buckingham Palace in June.

Camilla came up with the idea and it is her special tribute to the Queen to mark her 60-year reign.

Children to create Queen's Diamond Jubilee menu

Quote
Schoolchildren across the UK are being invited to come up with ideas for food to be served at Buckingham Palace to mark the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.

The Duchess of Cornwall launched the British Food Fortnight competition on a visit to a school in Swindon.

Pupils from the top four winning schools will see their ideas made into canapes by royal chef Mark Flanagan.

The students will help serve them at the reception at the palace attended by the Queen and the Duchess.

The competition, which was the idea of the Duchess, has some precedent, as in 1953 coronation chicken was invented by Constance Spry and served at the Queen's Coronation lunch.

Prospect Hospice welcomes HRH The Duchess of Cornwall

Quote
Patients, staff, volunteers and supporters were united in their delight in welcoming the Duchess of Cornwall to Prospect Hospice today.

The Duchess spent time with patients both on our In-patient Unit, and also in our Day Hospice, where she took time to talk with patients of their experience, of the care and support they receive from the Hospice , and even took time to sit with patients taking part in an art therapy project, adding her own ceramic piece to a mosaic being created by patients working with Susie Carr, our Art Therapist.

Among the patients who chatted with The Duchess was Ruby Ayres from Swindon, who shared a sofa in our garden room with her. “I was surprised when she came and sat down next to me,” said Ruby, “and she asked me about the care I receive here at the Hospice. I told her that I couldn’t ask to be in better care. I told her that Prospect Hospice is a lovely, friendly, joyous place. It was like talking to an old friend – she was so natural.”

Camilla, a keen cook,  kickstarted the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations by launching a competition offering every school in Britain the chance to become the first in history to go into the Buckingham Palace kitchens and create a menu for a royal reception attended by the monarch.

I love the idea of a cooking competition for the Jubilee-it's relatively simple, but effective

This is fantastic. What a great way to engage young people in the Jubilee celebrations, and also improve cooking skills which they can share with family and friends.

Camilla seems so genuine, and humane, when she is going about royal engagements. There is something in her smile, her eyes, which looks like she is really interested to be there and enjoys engaging with others.

The Duchess of Cornwall obviously loves children and has a good time when she is with them. Sometimes I think she gets judged to harshly.
When you were born you cried and the world rejoiced.
Live your life so that when you die the world cries and you rejoice.
