Frederik VIII (1843-1912) reigned as King of Denmark from 1906 to 1912. His full name was Christian Frederik Vilhelm Carl. He was the son of King Christian IX and Queen Louise of Denmark. When he became the monarch, he did not take the regnal name of Christian X.
As Crown Prince of Denmark, he was given a seat on the State Council and assisted his father in the duties of government.

Some people thought that Frederik should have been made heir to the throne after Frederik VII. Had this occurred, Frederik VIII's father would not have become King Christian IX.
