Thats a great honor for the Maltese, not may entire countries get a medal!! The Battle of Britain gets all the glory, but serious students of WW2 know how import it was for Malta to hold out, diverting so many vital German resources to the Africa and Mediterranean theaters.

Im surprised HM didnt go, given her fond memories of Malta, do you think this is a signal as to her health?
"No other member of the Royal Family mattered that year, or I think for the next 17 years, it was just her." Arthur Edwards, The Sun Photographer, talking about Diana's impact.

^^^She and Phillip have largely given over the foreign travel to the PoW and the rest of the family.

^ Yes, though it was only last year that Prince Philip travelled to Canada for a military commemoration to do with one of the regiments he is patron of. He and the Queen are game old birds. The Queen went to Malta CHOGM a couple of years ago.
